5/3/25 blog post: the argument against AI in art

Creating ideas or originality is not something that is within the capacity of AI. The purpose and practice of AI is to aggregate large swathes of information that already exist, and respond to niche and specific commands using it.

We have created a system for re-using and integrating information that already exists, and we as a society are mistaking this for creative & original thought.

Art is built upon the idea that we have a unique identity and point of view that, when projected onto the world around us, can help to shed light on what we have in common but have not realized yet as a society.

Expressing the unique capacity of the human mind - the fact that there is always originality inside of each of us - is what gives art the capacity to be revolutionary.

All art is the living practice of realizing the unrealized. AI has no capacity to do this & never will, simply because of its fundamental model of being a (perhaps sophisticated) data aggregation tool.

All art pursues to realize the unrealized experiences & absolute truths of being alive. This is something we share as humans, and as animals. Original art will always reveal and revolutionize our shared perspective. It is made possible through the unique perspective of the individual, and your unique and universal ability to see the world through the lens of being alive.
