Something I will never understand is people playing while they're frustrated, and then complaining that they're not having fun. Like, yeah of course you're not having fun you went into the match not having fun what did you expect?
You wanna know my trick to enjoying the game? Here you go:
Am I currently having fun? If no, stop playing. If yes, keep playing.
It's that simple. Also I don't take the game so seriously that I get genuinely upset over minor things like losing. I don't care if my team loses splatfest, I'm having fun either way

Splatoon 3 Rant
Haven't done one of these in a while, but, I wanted to talk about something that's killing me about Splatoon. Splatoon 3 is a multiplayer game, it is supposed to be fun. Whether you play competitively or casually, it is supposed to be fun. And I have been struggling to have fun lately because of people who want to spawncamp, and who want to make the game unenjoyable.
Point A: Splatoon Player Gets Banned
If you aren't on Splatoon twitter, an individual I won't name got banned from online play for a month for spawncamping during Clam Blitz.

This was the team who lost.

This is the team who won. And, I'm going to show the full results screen minus the names.

What do you notice? Perhaps, that the people who won, didn't finish the game, and only threw in a single clam the entire 5 minutes? Because they wanted to XP farm?
This is absolutely embarrassing to do, first of all. All because you want to sweep the casual players. And guess what? This is what makes people not want to play the game anymore.
And frankly, I haven't been having fun playing as of late, because it just feels like "fuck the casuals lololol" maybe this is a very minute gripe, but I just want to play casually. I have been getting so angry just trying to play casually because it gets stressful, and I can't leave spawn. I suck at the game competitively, I literally just want to level up my catalogue. I've gotten to level 50. I wanted to get to level 100. But because of how people act in battles I feel so stressed, as stupid as it sounds.
I just want to play the silly squid game and not feel like I'm passing a kidney stone.

Read OP's post first!
I don't think Marie necessarily has trauma from S2. I think Marie has always been somewhat dependent on Callie (not to the point of codependence) to ground her and help her ignore her anxieties. And suddenly losing Callie caused those anxieties to surface. So while the wound is still fresh, she still panics at the idea that Callie is leaving her. By S3 she's likely matured a lot, and taken steps to be more independent in regards to her anxiety.
I don't think Callie is completely okay either, but this ain't about her
Rambling about Marie....
I wanna quickly talk about something because i was looking around on Inkipedia and i stumbled across this interesting dialogue exchange from Callie and Marie during the live performance at Tokaigi in 2018.
Now i have talked about the official translation of this dialogue before a while back and it's surprisingly very different from the translation done on Inkipedia. Now this could be just a very rough translation and that's why the Inkipedia one is so different but i find it to be very interesting.
In the original Japanese dialogue it's more clear that Callie is making a joke and playing around with Marie and Marie freaks out a little. But Callie says "just kidding!" to ease Marie. However, in the official English translation, Marie is way more harsh and seemingly dismissive of what Callie has gone through. And Callie just goes, "Whatevs!" Like... it's pretty damn different tone wise.
The English translation makes Callie seem more like some airheaded idiot that doesn't remember what happened because "oooo brainwashing ooooo", but in the Japanese script, its more clear that Callie is being obviously snarky and cheeky towards Marie and she does remember what happened which is more in line with her character. Callie is not a dumbass, you have been fed lies. She's able to pick up on other people's emotions, especially her cousin's as she quickly says "just kidding!" to make sure Marie doesn't freak out too much and to know she's just joking around with her.
(Side note, only in the English translation do they call what Callie has gone through "brainwashing" and other characters like sanitized Agent 3 and Marina Agitando even though that's not really happened. In other languages it's always referred to as hypnosis. We don't have a fan retranslation of the Japanese dialogue for Splatoon 2 from my knowledge so i cant comment on that either unfortunately.)
Now to get to the point, It got me wondering... Does Marie have trauma or any sort of stress from Splatoon 2? And is that why she's way less snarky towards Callie in Splatoon 3 because she's terrified of Callie ever running away again and doing something irrational like joining the Octarians? From the Squid Sister Stories we can see that Marie often worries about Callie and overthinks a lot.
Even though Marie seems a lot more happy in Splatoon 3 and has matured a lot since the first game, like Splatoon 1 Marie is a different person from Splatoon 3 Marie. I think most of that maturing is out of fear and anxiety. Like you can't just brush aside your own cousin running away and the next time you see her, she's wearing some crazy outfit and is trying to murder an agent you hired to go find her in the first place. That would mess anyone up and especially someone like Marie who does have some mental troubles brewing under the surface.
I kinda wished they dived a little bit more into it but alas, we don't have a lot of stuff to go off of between Splatoon 2 and 3 as by the time the thrid game comes around Callie and Marie have matured and grown a lot in those 4 to 5 years. Which is good of course! But... I really would have liked to see Marie deal with the aftermath of those events. Maybe I'm asking too much i don't know...

at no point does Splatoon stop and tell you "by the way child soldiers are bad" it doesnt stop to tell you that invading people's territory and stealing their eggs and shooting everyone you see (salmon run) is bad. hell they make it enjoyable.
i do not think the game is any worse for this, and you the player are not morally wrong for enjoying it. the events in a story and the actions your character take have no real world harm, it is at most to push a story and/or to make the game experience fun.
you cant just say it's all fine because it's not real, you have to step back and think about what it is saying, you have to interact critically and not accept everything the game tells you. aknowledge the bad in things you enjoy.
