i honestly have to assume that people frequently forget how important visuals are to a day to day life, television doesn't exactly "make sense" when all you can hear are sound effects without any context to what they are actually doing. consider food, for a second, and how many components of food and the instinctual desire to eat are connected to the visual cues and context of the food.
