I thought of another thing

Camp of people who start analysing and picking apart all of Pierre and Conseil's videos from the past months, claiming they actually had been kidnapped MONTHS ago and there's DEFINITELY evidence in the videos if you look in the right spots (there is not)

An expansion on this modern au post where Pierre did social media/insta/tiktok/YouTube stuff that Nemo secretly watched etc.

Can you imagine the conspiracy theory videos that occur when Pierre and co vanish?!

Two popular, cute and good looking creators disappear after having spent the past few month making videos about monster hunting at sea!? It would be insane!

Nemo doesn't let the trio know ofc, he's obs witholding any access to the outside world while enjoying watching the unhinged things people come up with.

There ofc the classic 'weve not explored the ocean enough and a monster took them!' and 'Pierre was promoting ocean exploration and environmentally friendly alternatives and adjustments to how we treat the ocean and was killed for it by the CIA!'

People are trawling photos to see if they can find blurry background people who vaguely look like the two to prove they actually faked their deaths and are now on a Pacific Island in hiding from *inset here*.

There's inappropriate edits of Conseil and Aronnax (together or individually) with hearts and in black and white that are like 'we lost two baddies'. There's also romantic/shipping edits idealising the romance of dying/drowning together - one of the most famous ones being a girl crying with the text "do you ever just remember the Pierre and Conseil probably died holding hands" (this actually ends up getting misreported as fact and sparks far right people to claim them being gay is what killed them).

Someone doing a 'Do not try this at home: contacting the ghosts of Professor Aronnax and Conseil at 3am challenge!' that's super over the top and staged etc that Samir finds and Nemo walks into the bridge to see him and other crew members crying with laughter over it.

But the weirdest one hands down goes to someone making a completely serious video saying 'those two cuties got kidnapped by merfolk to be married and get pregnant like sea horses' and it gains an alarming amount of traction and sparks a trend of concluding all conspiracy theories with 'and then they married and were impregnated by merfolk'. (Nemo hates this the most because his crew desecrated the language he created so they could all, regardless of ethnicity, background or life experience, communicate as equals, by creating a Nautilus translated word for 'm-preg')

Nemo is beyond greatful when the internet moves on to the next thing.

Reading the new checks that might come in due to the Online Safety Act in the UK and this is actually bullshit

And how will I prove my age?

There’s a number of methods a site or app might use to ask you to confirm your age. They might do this check themselves or use another company to do the check. These methods include:

Facial age estimation – you show your face via photo or video, and technology analyses it to estimate your age. 

Open banking – you give permission for the age-check service to securely access information from your bank about whether you are over 18. The age-check service then confirms this with the site or app.

Digital identity services – these include digital identity wallets, which can securely store and share information which proves your age in a digital format.

Credit card age checks – you provide your credit card details and a payment processor checks if the card is valid. As you must be over 18 to obtain a credit card this shows you are over 18.

Email-based age estimation – you provide your email address, and technology analyses other online services where it has been used – such as banking or utility providers - to estimate your age.  

Mobile network operator age checks – you give your permission for an age-check service to confirm whether or not your mobile phone number has age filters applied to it. If there are no restrictions, this confirms you are over 18.

Not only is this such a fucking breach of privacy, but this is going to hurt adults in vulnerable and abusive situations. Some adults don’t have bank accounts or credit cards or even a fucking phone. I’m one of them. I could not give half of this information even if I wanted to. What the fuck is this. Fuck the UK government. This isn’t going to protect kids, this is just going to hurt adults, and I know full well when they say “sites that allow pornography” they’re going to be going after sites that have huge amounts of queer content, like tumblr and Ao3. Queer kids are gonna lose their fucking communities because of this shit. Abuse victims are going to lose online support systems because of this.

I’m genuinely fucked off about this, and worried about whether I’m going to lose every single one of my online friends. Anyone in the UK, please email your MP and sign this petition. It needs to reach 100k signatures to pass through Parliament.

I’m only hoping the backlash will be big enough for them to stop implementing these measures.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY: There's so much talk about how Aronnax must have missed Nemo and anything that reminded him...But what about Nemo?

It is revealed to us in "The Mysterious Island" that Nemo did not know that Aronnax had survived and published the book, and only discovered this in the last hours of his life.

Did he spend the rest of his life blaming himself for his death? For having unintentionally put him in situations where he was not to blame?Could he walk into his room and still hear his laughter?Did he still keep his place at the dinner table? Did he look at Pierre's books on his shelf and remember the nights they spent together?Were there days when, in the midst of the crying, a small flame of hope was lit that he was alive?

The worst part was not knowing.Of not being sure. It was having to deal with the uncertain day after day, the uncertainty that he could have avoided.
