Now off to do errands and a very exciting thing that I’ve been dying to do for forever (I’m being vague but you’ll see soon enough!!!!) 😜

Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel. I'm always interested in retellings or sequels to Pride and Prejudice. It's one of my favorite classic novels. However, I find that I can never be fully invested in these sequels; they usually just do not add anything of significance to the original. I thought that Eligible would be the same, but I was completely wrong.
I loved how Sittenfeld reinterpreted Pride and Prejudice. This novel contains themes of feminism; the role of a woman as a nurturer versus choosing to be childfree, whether a woman should make it a priority to be married/how much emphasis our society places on a woman's biological clock, which then determines how useful she is...it's just a slew of very interesting and relevant questions that pertain to being a woman in our society. There's also something about Eligible's prose that is reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice, but it's not taking itself too seriously at the same time. I am completely in love with how Sittenfeld handled the topic of Lydia's elopement. Instead of Lydia being a stain upon the Bennet family name, the "problem" with the elopement does not lie with Lydia being a fast woman. Instead, Sittenfeld shifts the "scandal" of Lydia's elopement to an entirely different nature. I also really liked how the character of Lady Catherine de Bourgh was handled! This book is definitely worth a read, whether you have read Pride and Prejudice or not!

Alice! I had a lot of fun researching 1860s children’s clothes for this. The shoes from that time period are amazing.
