The 118 doing a Buck based trivia night together for Buck's birthday- Buck brings Tommy (which no one likes but no one can protest).

Eddie Diaz is wiping the floor with EVERYONE over these questions, I'm talking 10/10 never fails even on the ridiculous ones meant to catch people out. But this also means that he's beating Buck's boyfriend, who as usual is stuck with a sour expression on his face.

So, as an act of charity really, he lets a few points go so that Tommy can look a little less pathetic in the running. Except every time he gets one wrong, Buck knows it- can see in Eddie's smug demeanour that he knows the right answer, can see it in the 'inside joke' winks Eddie keeps sending his way.

At the end, Eddie has to choose whether he should win by one point and hope the man isn't too prickly, or let Tommy win and watch him act like a foolishly arrogant douchebag all night long.

Eddie picks the first option.

Buck beams quietly even as his boyfriend begins to throw what Eddie would call a tantrum, which is fine.. until he makes some snarky jab along the lines of "If you're trying to prove a point or something Diaz, just say you want to fuck him- Abby was right, god knows it's all he's good for."

Tommy is too busy basking in the hurt he's put on Buck's face to avoid Eddie's fist flying straight for his face. It connects with a wet crunch.

eddie and maddie scene where eddies just sharing shit about his life because they never talk and she really doesnt know anything about him, but somehow, maddie keeps knowing all of this intricate information about him, like obscure stuff that not even most of the 118 know. and hes like "are you stalking me??" and shes just like "no buck just talks about you ALL THE FUCKING TIME"

buck gets drunk one night and starts telling eddie “you shouldn’t have been in texas. you should’ve been here.” and eddie sighs “i know, buck, i shouldn’t have moved, i should’ve brought chris home” and buck says “no. before that. you should’ve been here.” and eddie says “hm? before that i was here.” and buck says “NO. before THAT. you were in texas for so long, you were keeping chris from me for so long. for seven years.” he’s getting all weepy now. “did you not want to know me yet? i wanted to know you so bad. i missed you.” and eddie’s looking at his tearful little face, giving into the urge to lay a soothing hand against his cheek. he says “buck, you weren’t here yet either,” and buck says “i would’ve been. if you’d been here earlier, i would’ve felt it. would’ve come home. to you.”

you know what I think? I think that the night before the buddie wedding can only go two ways:

1. the whole team forces them to sleep in separate houses because it's tradition!!! so eddie is at hen's and buck is at maddie's and you know what? they are absolutely insufferable about it. they absolutely hate the idea, they've been sleeping in the same bed for more than a year at this point, they work together, they honestly don't remember when the last time they did something separately was, so why do they have to sleep in different houses now, for God's sake? they offered to sleep in different beds - like, one of them would have slept on the couch - but the whole team refused. but, God, buck feels like he's going to go crazy because fuck, this is the night before his wedding, he wants to talk to his best friend! because he is a little bit nervous - slightly terrified, if you will — and he wants to talk to his best friend because he's the only one who can reassure him. and eddie, fuck, eddie is lying on the bed feeling as relaxed as a high voltage cable, because he is terrified of fucking things up, of simply not being able to be a husband, and there's only one person who can reassure him, whisper sweet nothings into his ear until he feels like himself again. they just need each other, maybe it's tradition to sleep away from your fiancé, but it's normal to need your best friend, and buck and eddie are all of that rolled into one, to each other, so eddie caves in first, much to everyone's surprise (they all had a bet going on about who would try to escape first). he calls buck, even if it's almost one in the morning and their alarms are set to go off at six thirty. and of course buck misses eddie too, of course he wants eddie to escape hen and karen's house to meet him at maddie's, of fucking course buck literally begs eddie to just do it. eddie has the presence of mind to leave a note on his bedside for hen and karen before leaving. he hopes they won't kill him. the morning after, when maddie and chimney's alarm goes off, they find buck and eddie sleeping tangled on the couch, with buck pressed against the cushions and eddie plastered against his chest, with his arms wrapped around his fiancé, tucked under him, between buck's back and the couch. it can in no universe be comfortable, and the way their heads are smashed against one another will surely mean that they are sweating like crazy, so obviously maddie and chim sigh exasperatedly, but, well- what can you do about these two?

2. they'll have a ceremony in romantic venue that is way too far from the center of los angeles so they are sleeping in the same hotel but everyone insisted on separating them for the night and chris is under strict instructions to not let his dad leave their room while ravi has been assigned to buck since he is without his partner. and chris' bed is opposite eddie's so the kid has a first row ticket to his dad's dramatic performance. he starts huffing and sighing desperately approximately thirty minutes after they both put their pajamas on and are ready to sleep. he sighs and sighs and sighs and chris looks at him from under his glasses because this man can't be real, please. then, eddie crosses his arms and christopher is sure this is the first time he sees his dad pout. he is a grown-ass man and is literally pouting like an infant because he has to spend one night without his other half. the force of chris' eye roll would be enough to cause another tsunami in california. things seem to settle when eddie's phone pings with a text and judging by the way eddie's eyes light up when he checks the screen, chris is sure that it's buck. that is one rookie mistake from chris' side, because as soon as his dad seems to be more at ease with the whole sleeping arrangement situation, he closes his eyes. and it's a mistake cause eddie takes that opportunity to try to sneak out, but hits the bedside table while trying to stealthily flee the room so chris wakes up and seriously??? so eddie goes back to sleep. but. but. he only pretends to sleep. poor chris doesn't know how but he finds ravi in his dad's bed. hen and chim find those two in the same bed, with buck one inch away from rolling off of it, since it's a single bed. they couldn't even settle for the same room, they needed the same bed.

the missed parallel of eddie helping buck find a new apartment and sabotaging his showings remains so dear to me, even if it's apparently not dear to the show

eddie making up some sad attempt at an excuse about how buck can't be trusted to pick a nice new apartment, how he's actually never picked a place on his own before, how buck needs his help etc.

and then during the showings eddie keeps throwing buck under the bus like yeah have you seen his clothes no wonder his credit score is horrendous // he keeps acquiring pets and bringing them home without telling his landlords, heart of gold this guy // he practiced some basketball in his old place once and broke a window, funny man, isn't he?

and buck just snaps because eddie keeps sabotaging him and it's selfish because buck needs a new place okay he can't keep living in eddie's and chris' space, not when he's so in love with eddie and can't stand to be so close to eddie without ever being allowed to have him (which... he doesn't tell eddie about that last part but he snaps at him nonetheless)

and eddie feels bad, he truly does, but his plan is coming together too nicely to really dwell on it. he convices buck to come to one last showing with him and promises to behave nicely. buck agrees and eddie drives them... to his house? to 4995 south bedford street. and eddie goes it's me, i'm your landlord and buck is ??? because what even is happening here?

cue eddie's little love confession and asking buck to stay, forever, in his arms, in his bed, in his home, in his life, in his family, and most importantly in his heart

and you best believe buck replies with you really did this for me and eddie just answers i‘d do just about anything for you but this is also for me, you‘re my juice

so much more interesting for his character. to ME. to have had eddie in texas for this arc. cause I genuinely do believe there's such a thing as too many character NDEs at once (like while I loved the bridge collapse none of the NDEs meant much to me cause there was just too much to focus on and not enough time to give it the proper emotional punch. eddie's ribs got crushed. did I give a shit. did it do anything for his character. no) but this absence is Everything for his character. because eddies been so focused on losing christopher and getting him back that he's almost convinced himself he can be fine in Texas. and maybe when it was a competition between Chris and Everyone/Anyone else that could be true but he has chris back in his corner now and he has to choose between continuing this lie to himself that he and chris can be happy in texas or he has to come face to face with the fact that this life he built in los angeles could never be a transient moment in his life. not only has he been immeasurably changed by these people he met at the 118 but he is still and forever bound to them and that's Not Nothing. we saw him acknowledge it but at that point he didn't think he had a choice. now he does and he will be confronted with that in the most devastating way and the impact of his absence will be so much more defining and monumental for him than being just another trapped 118 member

they're at bobbys funeral. already had the procession, now they're standing in henren's house, trying to stomach mini quiches and chunks of cut up fruit. when it started buck greeted people from the academy, gave and got thoughtful and heavy pats on the back. now he's leaned against a wall, head turned so people can't see him crying, near comatose. eddie stays at his side, of course. and he sees everyone with their little plates of fruit an cheese and sweets and he thinks. oh. how long has it been since you've eaten, buck? a hand on his elbow while he tries to get buck to make eye contact with him. buck shrugs. not hungry anyway. but eddie Knows. so he rubs bucks arm and he tells he he will be right back and he hesitates because. well. is he really going to leave buck alone right now? then maddie takes his place, and when he gets to the food table he's putting together a little plate with filling meats n cheeses so buck doesnt even have to eat much. chims there, lookin at him. lookin at buck and maddie across the room. "you know," chim will say, "tomorrow isn't promised to anyone." eddie will say "yeah. i know."

My personal favorite buddie proposal idea is that Eddie sidles into a storage closet at the station one day while Buck is doing inventory and asks "hey can I talk to you as my best friend instead of as the love of my life?"

And once Buck is done having heart palpitations (love of his life! best friend!) he's like "yeah of course" and even sets aside his clipboard so he can give Eddie his full attention

And Eddie gives him a shy/smug little look because he knows what he's doing and says "so I've decided to propose to my boyfriend-" he gives Buck a second to start thinking in full sentences again (boyfriend! that's me! propose! marriage! forever! choosing me forever!) before finishing "-and I was hoping that, as my best friend, you'd come ring shopping with me"

And Buck manages to say "yeah - I'd - I'd love to" and he means the ring shopping but he also kind of means the proposal and they both know it and they spend the rest of the shift barely meeting each other's eyes and then looking away to smile and giggle like teenagers

And they do go ring shopping and they pick out something Buck really likes while pretending very seriously that Buck and Eddie's future fiancé are not the same person

But THEN, before Eddie has a chance to actually propose (he has PLANS), Buck gets him alone at the station and is all "hey, so, can I ask something as your best friend instead of as the love of your life?"

And Eddie is like this sounds familiar but he's also having heart palpitations because he's just as gone on Buck as Buck is on him, so he says "yes of course"

And Buck is like "I think my boyfriend is going to propose, and when I say yes I want to have a ring for him-" he gives Eddie a second to be able to form thoughts beyond he's going to say yes!!!! even though he KNEW he was going to say yes, before continuing "-so I was hoping my best friend would help me pick one out"

And Eddie feels a little drunk (is this what Buck felt when he did this to him?) but he says "I'd love to, yeah" and they spend the rest of the shift not getting farther than a foot away from each other and smiling down at whatever they're pretending to be working on

So they go ring shopping again. They get the same salesperson, and pretend very seriously that this is a return favor for Buck helping Eddie last week, and that they're definitely marrying different people, they're just here as each other's best friend

And Buck carries the ring they picked out for Eddie around in his pocket until Eddie proposes because he wants to be ready, and it takes a couple weeks for Eddie to get it all set up and they both feel electrified the whole time

I don't know how Eddie eventually proposes, but Buck loves it and cries and says yes and gives Eddie his ring, and all their friends are very happy for them while also thinking how insufferable they are

And then they live happily ever after

Imagine a buddie fic that follows the b99 audio “do you wanna know how I actually hurt my wrist? I was hula hooping.” “Why are you telling me this?” “Because no one will ever beleive you” and the plot is buddie got together and decide to keep it from the team for a bit but Buck thinks it would be HILARIOUS to tell only Ravi because nobody at the station would believe him. The whole thing is just Ravi fighting for his life while Buck and Eddie giggle in a corner
