Historic preservation, as a theory and a practice, and why western concepts of "integrity" lead to an obsession with saving the work of dead white men frozen in time instead of contributing to vibrant, living communities. Also, Brutalism is beautiful, discuss.

Gender performance theory, and how gender is a construct. It's all bullshit, but it's really fascinating and importantly revealing bullshit.

Blocking in performance art. As a former theatre kid, I am obsessed with blocking - the precise staging of actors to facilitate the performance of a play, ballet, film or opera. It is one of the things I love to chew apart ravenously with any piece of media I really love.

Fashion history. There is very few time periods I know deeply, but I have a very broad understanding of most of western fashion history. Comes from being an autistic kid who had a crazy old set of encyclopaedias with the most amazing fashion templates, and it all just went down the rabbit hole from there.

DIY home improvements, like GOOD ones, not the ones you see and want to scream about. Okay, but those are fun to scream to each other about too I guess.

Marley and Lucy met when they were studying Crime and Thriller Writing at the University of Cambridge. They became fast friends, and now that they both live in London… well, let's just say they are basically joined at the hip.

While attending the International Mystery Writers Convention, a mix up results in Marley Lois, famous cyber thriller writer, ending up with the badge of one Marley Lois, INTERPOL Accountant. Never one to turn down an opportunity, Marley sneaks upstairs to the JELLYFISH Con—how long can they keep up the charade, and will they succeed in sneaking their friend Lucy in with them??

Hi, it's Pomme (Lucy) and BadBunny (Marley) here at Station Phoenix!

This is Pomme's second year, though they have been a loooooong time Bond fan. They are a cheerleader with Station Phoenix for 2025.

Of course there are no legitimate estimates if the crowd size in DC, but it is acknowledged that it was well under the anticipated 200,000 - and that is including those there in protest.

Meanwhile, No Kings is estimating 5 million people showed up to protests across the US. An estimated 10k joined the one in my hometown of Fort Collins, CO.

So. There is that.

This parade is one of the most thrown-together low-energy events I've ever seen. Our high school float parade had more enthusiasm.

The best part... Trump is bored out of his skull.

Though every once in a while he stands up and salutes.

It's really weird.

Okay, apparently some people don't know this and that's not gonna do on my blog. So as we used to say on this hellsite,

is the ORIGINAL polyamory pride flag. Jim Evans created it in 1995 in fucking MS Paint. Not using hearts was an intentional choice to: avoid stepping on the leather pride flag's toes, allow people to use it without immediately outing themselves to those not in the know, and be easily input into MS Paint. The infinity heart symbol did not exist at the time and certainly wasn't available in MS motherfucking Paint. The color symbolism is blue for honesty, red for love, black⚫ in solidarity for those that cannot be out to the world at large, and gold for the high value of each relationship. sources (x, x)

There are valid complaints that people want a pride flag that does advertise what they are, and that this design is hard on the eyes. However. Many polyamorous people still use this flag to represent themselves, most of them 35+ years old. As a personal favor to me, please do not say you hate this flag. Say the colors are too bright till you're blue in the face, sure. But to openly hate this flag is to disparage your predecessors and denounce your history.

The earliest polyamory pride flag to incorporate the infinity heart symbol that I could find actually made its debut on tumblr in 2016. The infinity heart was established as a polyamory pride symbol by this time. ratlab-art intentionally kept the original color symbolism, while using hues generally considered a little more pleasant to look at.

This one, obviously, set the precedent for numerous other iterations of the same idea -- tweaking the colors, swapping the pi for the infinity heart. I will not be posting all of them, because I doubt I could track them all down anyway. The icon I currently use on this blog is one such iteration. But this one uniquely puts the black stripe in the middle, which does make for a nice contrast with the gold.

and of course

This is the "new poly flag" designed by Red Howell for the polyamproud online vote, which took place in 2022. They call it the "tricolor polyamory pride flag" (presumably, not to distinguish it from the other established flags, but to distinguish it only from the others that were in their run-off) Its symbolism is as follows: the triangle ▶️points forward for progress and is off-center to represent the non-traditional nature of polyamory, white⚪ represents possibility, blue for honestly, magenta for love, purple for unity in the community, gold for perseverance, and obviously the heart for love.

It has garnered controversy, because they kind of... openly disparaged every previous polyamory flag and claim theirs is the one true poly flag. They do still say you can use any flag you like, but the whole vote was predicated on the assumption that no one wanted the existing designs, and no pre-existing designs were included in the vote. And that it was bad to have variants of the same flag, even though you see that with many pride flags, including the rainbow flag. Many old school polyams still don't know this design, let alone that there was a single vote years ago, which they missed. However. This flag has quickly become a popular design, especially among the younger generation. So if you would be so kind, please do not say you hate this flag. Say you're frustrated with how the process of choosing it happened, by all means. But to openly hate this flag is to disparage the next generation and sever yourself from new directions in the community.

A couple of honorable mentions made by Emma Essex in 2019 and Molly Colleen Bennett Wilvich in 2020, respectively. They don't get full write-ups, but they're an additional couple of the more unique (without being downright obscure) flag designs.

007 Fest is a month-long celebration of all things Bond! At the beginning of each week you make your own personal goals about how to celebrate: these might include creating fic or art, making headcanons, going to watch parties, posting memes, or anything else that you find fun. You make these goals on a team sheet, and your team's goal is to help everyone get as close to 100% goal completion as possible!

What are the optional role play elements?

This year, the storyline we are following is dueling conferences. Espionage agencies from all over the world are coming together in the spirit of cooperation and trust, or what passes for it in the spy world, to make allies and show off. It’s JELLYFISH Con!

(Meanwhile, a floor below, the Mystery Writers Conference is plotting...)

One way to enjoy the premise is to make a character. Will you be a scientist with a table at Inventor's Alley? An agent trying to make friends and influence people? An expert lecturer demonstrating the perils of exploding pens? The grizzled con staffer whose job is to hand out name tags to every guest AND all of their aliases, who will use Any Means Necessary to figure out who Seymour Butts is?

When you sign up for Fest, start thinking about how you want to fit into this world. It's not critical, but there are some fun bonus challenges that build on some role play elements. Don't worry about which agency you might be a part of; we will be assigning time-zone-based stations for Fest depending on the demographics of sign ups.

Completing your weekly goals helps save the conference from that week’s threat! (But if you don’t complete them…well…maybe your station’s part of the conference ends up a little more lava-covered than it was before…yes, even though you’re not anywhere near a volcano… Luckily, you can help each other out!)

I don’t write or art! Can I still participate?

Absolutely! If you want, you can only make social goals—hosting or joining watch parties or Discord chats, for example.

We also have fun immersive goals/scavenger hunt activities that don’t involve writing or arting.

Additionally, the ‘creative’ goals don’t have to involve fanfic or fanart; if your weekly goal is to make 5 James Bond memes or three headcanons, we support that!

And if you want to make a “hold my beer” level of goal, we also offer prompt tables and other challenges!

You can also participate without goals during certain weeks or the whole month if you want! 007 Fest is as chill or as high-key as you want to make it.

There is a film shoot at the historic site I chair today, so I am here as the Trust rep. I brought my cold brew, laptop and a yoga mat and am working from the back of my car.

(Currently it's my lunch break, so I am working on my latest fic while I enjoy the breeze.)
