((Edited to add that Nimona is no longer free on YouTube. You can still find it on Netflix or through... other means.))
My favorite thing about Nimona now being available on YouTube is obviously that everyone can access it for free, which goes such a long way for queer kids.
But my second favorite thing is that I can now go through the movie literally frame by frame.
This dialogue collects all the beautiful meaning of the movie but let's focus for a moment on Yori's "sorry I lied".
That child dared to disobey his own father and incur his punishment, again, just for Minato! These kids want so much to be together, freely and simply. They just want to be themselves with someone who truly understands them and to express their care. They want to never have to ask permission again. Why the social stigma shouldn't have let them experience their first love, their true identity?
And finally in the end they both let go of the shame. They no longer ask permission and accept themselves as they are.
did yori and minato die? or were they actually alive?!
you know what? It's as clear as daylight that they actually died. my boys didn't deserve this.
how cruel the world is. people's judgement is a no joke. sad ending, but it's like telling us that sometimes, dying is the only way to achieve unending happiness and freedom.

I think 'Nimona' happens to be a fantastic litmus test on whether or not someone's curtains are blue:
You'll have people, especially trans people, relate heavily to every aspect of Nimona's existence, the ostracization, the vilification by government and society at large just for what you are, and even the conditional acceptance by other queer people. The pain of rejection and the joy of self-expression and true acceptance. To them, Nimona embodies the trans experience.
And then you'll have people who claim Nimona is trans because that one conversation can be an allegory for dysphoria, and sometimes there's a trans flag in the background.
