i saw ponyo in a theater today for ghibli fest and i realized that the reason the sound design in that movie feels so nostalgic to me is bc of how much of it is like. echoing noises of water.... as far as i know, none of the sounds were actually recorded fully submerged in water but they used pots full of water to get lots of reverb splash and drop noises. and the reason that feels nostalgic is because of how those are noises that you dont hear as much, or at least dont pay attention to as much, when you grow out of childhood. think about it--when youre a kid, you take bubble baths, go to swimming pools and beaches, and generally dunk your head under water for various reasons a lot more than you do when you’re older. there’s an association between youth and the splashy kind of underwater noises that they used so much in that movie.... it really stood out to me while watching it this time for some reason...

What men don’t realize is that even if a wing surface has a straight camber line and a chord line with zero angle of attack it can still act as an airfoil if it has a step on the upper surface where the leading edge of the upper surface is higher than the trailing edge. The brief flow separation creates an area of low pressure above the wing which causes lift in the same way that conventional airfoils do.
