Kneeling
Summary:
Hunter has spent his whole life down on one knee
Notes:
Yes I’m still gonna be posting my fics up on tumblr now that I have an Ao3 Account, but I’d really appreciate y’all showing me some support over there! I wrote this in two and a half hours after not being able to finish a fic for eight months. I have several unfinished TOH fics I’ve been working on for weeks. My Huntlow Grom fic is desperate to be edited. But no. Instead I started a new one. But hopefully this has cured my writer’s block! Hopefully…
Kneeling was one of the first things Hunter had ever been taught.
Kneel before your emperor, show your respect, for he is superior. One foot up, one knee pressed into the marble floor, arm resting across your leg, head bowed low, exposing the back of your neck. An act of humility, of humbleness, of devotion to your king, your god.
Make yourself as small and as vulnerable as possible.
He had probably kneeled before that throne a hundred times. Every time he’d addressed the Emperor. At every ceremony, receiving his title, his sigil, his staff. He still remembered the burning sensation as his wrist was branded with the Coven’s mark. Everything that further entangled him into the Emperor’s ways. Ties to Belos that strangled and suffocated him.
Every mistake he made, he’d drop to one knee and beg for forgiveness, grovelling at the feet of the man who held Hunter’s world in his hands.
Kneeling was how he was taught to respect his superiors. He hadn’t known any better when he’d first met Camilla, or the Bat Queen. All people who he saw as royalty, who had shown him selflessness and generosity at a saint-like level.
Camilla had seemed shocked and disturbed by his bow, like it wasn’t normal. Like it wasn’t all Hunter had ever known for the entirety of his formative years.
The Bat Queen had laughed it off, but had kindly informed him that the gesture was not needed.
In time, Hunter had learned that throwing your whole body on the floor for someone wasn’t a normal reaction to a figure of authority. That the utter totalitarianism of the Emperor’s grip on him wasn’t normal, wasn’t right, wasn’t something a child should ever be put through.
He had learned to reject that behaviour, leave it behind in the ash and rubble of that old throne room. He’d learned to mimic the mannerisms of his friends and classmates. It was okay to put your elbows on the table when you ate, it was okay to not address every adult as “sir” or “ma’am”, it was okay to curse, it was okay to lie, it was okay to be messy, and emotional, and carefree. It was okay to be a teenager. It was okay to be a person. It was okay.
Back in the coven, Hunter would be punished for any misconduct. But his friends did all these things without a care in the world. Without knowing the weight it held. The sense of freedom it gave Hunter for finally being able to experience misbehaviour. The scary and exciting feeling of being able to act this way without much more than a stern look from a teacher.
They would never understand that there was even a difference. But Hunter did.
Hunter knew the meaning of a bow. He knew how much it meant for him to drop to one knee in front of a person he was utterly and wholly devoted to. For him to do it again, to want to do it again, after all the years of unlearning that behaviour. Of growing up in a world without the need to do it, of knowing what it was like to be trapped and then finally freed.
Bowing meant making yourself small, submissive, vulnerable, inferior. It meant that the power was in the other person’s hands, and they were fully allowed to use it to hurt and control you. It meant that you respected them because you had no other choice.
Hunter had known all this for as long as he could remember.
So he knew how much weight it carried that he now had the freedom to give it a new meaning. It still meant lowering yourself to raise the other up. It still meant complete devotion, and throwing yourself before someone. Hunter still had one knee in the dirt and one foot on the floor. But now he raised his head, looking up at the person he loved. Now, he was straightening his back and opening up his body to his new world. Now, he held his hands out in front of him, clutching the little box in his calloused fingers. Now, it meant a choice. A choice to repeat the behaviour that had caused him so much pain, and make it represent something new. A choice to leave behind what it meant in the past. A choice to look towards the future, in the beautiful green eyes of the person he cared about most.
In the Coven, he had wanted more than anything to decide his own future. And now he was.
In the act of getting down on one knee and presenting the ring, he was reclaiming his ability to choose. And he chose her. She was his future, the life he wanted to live, the destiny he had assigned himself. Not for the Coven, or Belos, or the Titan. But for himself. His choice. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with Willow Park.
And there, kneeling before her, he told her as such.
“Oh, Hunter,” Willow had both hands over her mouth, her cheeks flushing rosy pink, her eyes wide. She seemed at a loss for words.
Hunter’s fingers twitched slightly against the small, jade-coloured box in his hands, “So… will you?”
“Oh, Hunter, of course I will!” She gasped, holding her hands out in front on her, her eyes welling up with tears, “Of course I will.”
Hunter let out a breath of relief, rising to his feet and taking her trembling left hand in his own, similarly trembling, one. He held it steady as he slipped the ring onto her finger.
He let out another shaky gasp of a breath, almost a laugh, almost a sob.
Tears of happiness spilled from the waterline of his eyes. He leaned forward and buried his head in her shoulder, weeping into the fabric of her dress, exhausted, elated, relieved.
“Thank you,” He told her.
She held him, and they sank to the floor together, laugh-crying, joy spilling out of them in waves and tears.
This was it. This was everything he had dreamed of, everything he had fought against Belos to achieve. A chance to live his life the way he wanted, be a real person, choose his path.
In the coven it had seemed unattainable.
Running away, it had seemed like the world would end before he had the chance.
In the human realm, he had begun to learn that it could happen, and could happen to him.
He had spent months realising this, cultivating it, building it up. This dream, this possibility that he could live a normal life.
And then he was in the Gravesfield Graveyard, watching as green slime crept up his arm, clouds forming in his brain, the ability of putting thought to action slipping from him, and the dawning realisation of what was happening. Horror seeping into his gut.
He’d watched, powerless, terrified, as his body was no longer his own. Once again giving up his whole self to the man who controlled him. He’d felt those hopes, those dreams, those desires he had finally begun to believe might be achievable fall back into the realm of impossibility.
He’d watched as his own arm raised. He’d felt the bird’s writhing muscle movements, desperately trying to flap his wings and break free. He’d felt wood crush against his skin, and green glowing liquid seeping out.
And he’d told Belos. In that moment, he told him of all the dreams he had, of the life he wanted to live.
As he’d walked down to the shoreline, fighting against his own body’s desires to hurt him, he’d directly addressed his abuser, telling him every thing, every mundane little hope, every possibility that he had slowly begun to realise could become reality in the months he’d spent away from him.
Leaving the coven. Never having to fall to one knee before the throne again. Studying the magic he was forbidden to know, undoing all the wrongs he’d helped Belos commit. Going to school. Making friends. Being a teenager.
But as he fell by the water, on his knees once again, and raised the vial of Titan’s blood up, he knew what he was about to do, and knew that none of these things could come to pass. He had gotten so hopeful, but it had inevitably been taken from him.
He’d told Belos these things not as a plea for mercy or a plan of action, but as a protest. I got away from you. I became everything you told me I couldn’t be. I got to hope.
But it was futile.
As the water had rushed into his lungs, he was grateful for the few short months where he could hope for a future free from Belos.
He was always destined to die by his hand. It was the plan from the beginning, ever since he was branded with that sigil. It was the fate of every grimwalker, including the man they had been created from. Hunter had been foolish to think otherwise.
But still, it was a nice thought.
The diamond ring glinted on Willow’s hand in the low-lying light of the sunset.
This had seemed impossible.
And yet, the hand of the woman he was going to marry caressed his face, careful to avoid the sensitive areas of skin where his scars were, gentle and caring and sweet. He stared into her eyes, those beautiful olive-green eyes, and kissed her.
He reached behind her head and ran his fingers through her hair, the underside of his wrist exposed so he could see the bright red tattoo of the little bird where he was once marked with Belos’ seal.
This wasn’t supposed to happen for him.
He wasn’t supposed to be here. He should’ve died in that river all those years ago. But he was alive.
He’d made it out of the Coven, broken free of Belos, and was alive.
Hunter had been taught to be a soldier. A devoted minion. A pawn. A tool. He had been taught to kneel before his superior, keep his mouth shut, show respect and decorum and devotion. He had been created to be used and discarded.
This wasn’t meant to happen.
He wasn’t supposed to be a person, live a life, fall in love with someone, grow up to get married. He wasn’t supposed to experience sweetness, gentle touches and nose kisses and laughter. The plan wasn’t to have him experience so much joy that it was hard to breathe sometimes. To learn to be loved by people, to experience community, closeness. To fall for someone so hard that he’d choose to get on his knees and ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. He wasn’t supposed to choose. He was supposed to be blindly obedient, submissive, and malleable to the Emperor’s will. He was supposed to follow orders, not make a fuss, not mess up, and to accept any punishment if he did. He was supposed to only exist for the use of his uncle, his ruler, his everything.
He was supposed to kneel.

Notes:
First fic written for AO3! There might be delays between posting on there and on Tumblr, that’s just the way of things.
I actually originally was drawing this as fanart (coming soon to here… possibly) but I wanted to write a short flowery description of it and it ended up being nearly 2K words long. Whoops.
I also do really like the hc that Willow proposed to Hunter, but I just thought of the symbolism of Hunter on one knee for Belos vs for proposing to Willow and it made my insides melt and thus this fic was spawned
Also Hunter’s relationship with the Bat Queen is briefly mentioned but I could write a whole fic about it. Him finally encountering a monarch who is good and benevolent, him not really knowing how to act around her- initially bowing and saluting out of respect like he had been taught, but then being treated as an equal and peer by her. Ughh. Fuck Disney for cancelling this show.

No but the fact that this would happen a lot to Hunter after they come back from the human realm…

Pleaseee talk about long haired hunter. I loved the mirror scene in thanks to them but nobody seems to want to dove deeper :(
YESSS I LOVED THIS SM AUGH IT MAKES ME SICK!!
The fear of turning into your abuser when you're abuser is a family member, one you're directly related to, is such an insane thing that they took care to include even in the cut episode schedule, it makes my heart so happy. Especially since given the fact that Belos and Caleb are brothers, Hunter looks like BOTH of them in different ways and in different circumstances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the fact that it's been implied in previous episodes that Hunter doesn't tend to keep up with his hygiene when in high stress situations or directly after them (ex Labyrinth Runners) and the implication that he hadn't so much as looked in a mirror until his hair got to that point makes me a bit ill.
Tumblr media
Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but iirc his hair is made of palistrom wood? Which would explain why it grew the fastest out of the hexsquad in the Human Realm opposed to the castle, where he was forced to stay inside except on weekends.
I doubt it was something he wasn't conscious of, I assume it was more the length and volume being so identical to Belos that caught him off guard when he finally actually looked at himself.
Tumblr media
Supported by how quickly he began to wreck his shit afterwards ofc
My son, my baby with hair that strays from both chains on his feet that will always weigh him down in one way or another and learning to live despite that

They need a spinoff
I think there’s a lot of implications to Evelyn that people ignore in favor of making her into their white everyman’s Manic Pixie Dream Girl instead of like, an actual character with motives who came to the human world for a reason.
Tumblr media
There’s the very obvious implication that she made the archway in Gravesfield??? The one that uses Titan’s Blood to open a temporary portal each time? And there’s another archway located by her house; I dunno if Evelyn made it herself, or if she had parents who were just never shown because they’re not too important to the story.
Evelyn obviously would’ve been a child when she visited Gravesfield as well, because there’s no way the writers would have her romance with Caleb begin if only one of them was a minor. So that points to her being a kid prodigy, which is something you can see in her descendants Eda and Lilith (Yes, Lilith as well; She’s very skilled herself and even figured out Glyph combos, it’s just that she’s being compared to Eda constantly and let her inferiority complex downplay herself).
But how did Evelyn even get to the human realm in the first place if the other archway hadn’t been built? Did she just magically connect hers to a pre-existing human archway?
We know Eclipse Lake exists, it’s how Philip entered the Boiling Isles, and others in the Demon Realm knew of it. Plenty of witches speculated on how a permanent portal to and from the human realm worked; So interdimensional travel was already a field that wild witches in the Deadwardian Era were interested in.
Portals in this show are two-way, so Evelyn must’ve entered Eclipse Lake, emerged somewhere in what would be known in the present as the Connecticut area, and then wandered until she came across some humans… And alas, she came across some of the worst humans to ever exist, RIP.
Tumblr media
She made Flapjack, and Palismen you create don’t awaken until you state your wish. If Flapjack resonated with Hunter for sharing Caleb’s wish, then he must’ve resonated with Caleb for sharing Evelyn’s wish; To decide her own future. Flapjack himself is introduced trying to leave and go places, despite people telling him to stay put.
Caleb is someone for whom that wish came in leaving his ‘home’ in Gravesfield, he’d already moved there from someplace else prior! When Evelyn is established to be someone skilled in interdimensional travel, is there not an obvious connection to be made between this and her shared dynamic in Caleb, and the Palisman who resonated with both?
Did Evelyn live with her parents? Was she by herself as a kid? When a teenage Eda runs to the human realm to escape her complicated relationship with her parents, is it the same as her ancestor? The Boiling Isles was never perfect (but the coven system was an objective downgrade), and Dana even mentioned it herself at one point. Its people are just as humans as humans, and so just as capable of being messy and flawed and even cruel. The Coven Heads were willing to fuse their realm with ours under the expectation they'd be treated like royalty for it.
Like Gus, did Evelyn find human detritus and become interested this way? Like Luz, did Evelyn hope she could escape her problems in one world by finding another? I wonder what magic Evelyn liked? Probably stuff to do with portals (Eda uses them in the first episode), teleportation, warping space, etc.
With all this in mind, with Evelyn already being established as someone who can create portal devices, Philip’s tendency to plagiarize and take credit, his inability to make a second portal without using the first one as a base, and the portal itself being found right by Evelyn’s home and archway…
What if Evelyn made the portal, with Caleb’s help. It does change the context of these notes in Philip’s journal, if they’re transcribed from those of Evelyn, a wild witch who revered the Titan and her way of life.
Evelyn went through Eclipse Lake, traveled until she found Gravesfield; Evelyn posed as a human and trusted Caleb after seeing how he and Flapjack got along. Evelyn built a working archway and when Gravesfield suspected a witch in their presence —possibly due to her experiments— they went on a hunt for her.
Evelyn revealed her identity to Caleb and Philip, and brought the former to her world, possibly as a test run or to celebrate its completion, before bringing him back to Gravesfield. Evelyn and Caleb would meet in secret for their own safety, communicating via rebuses, as Caleb stayed in Gravesfield until Philip was old enough to take care of himself, and/or even changed his mind and went along!
But he didn’t, and if Philip tried to do something about the archway, Evelyn still had Eclipse Lake. She might’ve even made the Portal by this point and that’s how Philip has notes on it prior to reuniting with Caleb. So Caleb moved to her home (possibly after Evelyn showed up in his house using the Portal), and Philip eventually found the Eclipse Lake portal. But in those subsequent 5+ years, Evelyn used the Titan’s right eye to create a new portal, that would use a little bit of Titan’s Blood as a battery but not deplete it with each use.
Tumblr media
Evelyn and Caleb programmed this portal to open in his childhood home where Caleb expected Philip to be, because he still hoped to have his brother with him and always had. Evelyn agreed to let this happen despite Philip clearly wanting her dead, even if he was not going to get Caleb implicated and killed to do so.
But Philip decided to cross that line, because at some point Evelyn and Caleb had a child, and knowing he was related to a mixed child pissed him off so bad. He pretended to be accepting, even as Evelyn and Caleb revealed a Portal and their plan to go back to him anyhow. Despite this, he attempted to murder Evelyn and/or Caleb anyway. Caleb died, and the Portal was damaged, but Evelyn chased off Philip. He eventually went back for Caleb’s body and stole it, and attempted to replicate the Portal that Evelyn and Caleb had showed off, believing he’d broken it beyond repair.
Tumblr media
Evelyn decided she wanted nothing else to do with the human realm and buried the Portal; Maybe she left the option for anyone else who was still interested. Which gets me to another point, that maybe Evelyn made a grave mistake in accessing the human world, but let’s be real the onus is always on those who act in bad faith, not someone who acted in good faith and had that taken advantage of. But in the long, long run, even longer than 400 years, past the ending of the series…
Gus is not the first, but he might be more successful than Evelyn, and succeed where she failed. He’s a witch who was also fascinated in the human world, and now he’s cultivating a Human-Demon Realm Exchange Program, so both worlds can get to know each other, so people from both worlds can find new places. Because Evelyn’s portal was reclaimed by her ancestor, who did need it after all; And it led to Luz finding the isles, to Vee finding Gravesfield.
Luz and Vee were also taken advantage of to commit genocide, but Luz helped stop it. She helped right a great wrong in freeing the Collector and giving the Titan’s son a friend; Evelyn was a wild witch, so she would’ve respected the Titan, and did use his right eye to create the Portal. During that time, the Titan was also able to peer into both the human and demon realms, though he wouldn’t have had much reason to care about the human realm for a while.
(And if the Archivists ever return; There’s a Collector who could be very helpful in resolving that threat, who was freed thanks to the butterfly effect of Evelyn’s actions.)
So in the long run, perhaps centuries after the show ends? Maybe Evelyn did good after all. There’s a lot our worlds could learn from each other, and perhaps healing magic would’ve helped someone like Manny; If not him, others down the line. Plant magic could also be very helpful. The Collector was able to create a second Portal to establish more permanent contact through Caleb’s old home, as Evelyn intended. Not to mention the work of her descendants she had from meeting Caleb! And Gus is helping more Calebs and Evelyns find homes, just as Evelyn helped Caleb, Luz, and Vee.

Lumity Analysis: Why They're Perfect
"Lumity" refers to the ship between Luz Noceda and Amity Blight from the Disney animated series "The Owl House." Disney has made strides in LGBTQ+ representation in recent years. Historically, the company has been criticized for a lack of diversity in its characters, but there have been notable developments toward inclusivity.
Their Introduction
In the first season of "The Owl House," Luz Noceda and Amity Blight are initially introduced as classmates at Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Amity is a skilled and popular student, while Luz is an enthusiastic human girl who lacks magical abilities. Their relationship starts with Amity being dismissive and condescending towards Luz, especially due to Luz's unconventional approach to magic.
As the season progresses, particularly in episodes like "Understanding Willow" and "Enchanting Grom Fright," their dynamic begins to shift. Luz learns more about Amity's struggles and challenges, and Amity starts to see Luz in a different light. The development of their friendship and eventual romantic undertones forms a significant part of the first season.
Understanding Amity Blight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amity Blight is portrayed as a prodigious young witch attending Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Initially portrayed as a competitive and dismissive character, the show explores the reasons behind her behavior, delving into her struggles with family expectations and her own desire to fit in. Instead of sticking to a one-dimensional "mean girl" persona, Amity's relationships with other characters, especially with Luz and Willow, showcase a more nuanced personality.
She once had a close friendship with Willow Park, but due to peer pressure and her desire to fit into her family's expectations, Amity distances herself from Willow. This storyline is explored in the episode "Understanding Willow," shedding light on the complexities of Amity's character.
Family Life and Abuse
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her parents, Odalia and Alador Blight, are portrayed as strict and demanding figures, particularly her mother, Odalia. The show hints at emotional abuse from her mother, adding layers to Amity's internal conflicts. Amity has older siblings, twins named Emira and Edric Blight. They play a significant role in the series, as they really love their little sister and occasionally offer advice to her. While they share the Blight family ambition, they also display a more carefree and rebellious attitude compared to Amity.
Being the more overtly abusive parent, Odalia sets unrealistic expectations for Amity by pressuring her to conform to the Blight family's high standards. This constant pressure to excel and meet these expectations contributes to Amity's initial behavior as an arrogant rival and her internal struggles. Odalia's emotional manipulation and criticism shape Amity's sense of self-worth and contribute to her insecurities. The fear of disappointing her mother and the desire for approval become driving forces in Amity's life, affecting her interactions with others, including her peers like Luz.
On the other hand, Alador's neglect also plays a role in Amity's development. His lack of active involvement in her life might leave Amity feeling overlooked and contribute to a sense of loneliness. The absence of positive attention from a parental figure could impact her emotional well-being and contribute to her seeking validation elsewhere, whether through academic achievements or conforming to societal expectations.
Early Behavior
At the beginning of "The Owl House," Amity was introduced as an arrogant rival and a bit of a bully. Driven by her desire to excel academically and meet her family's expectations, she initially sees Luz as a threat and behaves dismissively and competitively.
One example of this was when she almost got Luz dissected by Principal Bump, mistaking her for an abomination. This incident shows her willingness to use any means to maintain her status, even if it means putting Luz in danger. This showcases the extent of her dedication to conforming to her family's standards.
Similarly, in the episode "Covention," Amity's actions, like stepping on King's cupcake, illustrate her inclination to follow the expectations set by her peers and her mother. These instances lay the groundwork for her eventual realization and character development as she begins to question the values she once upheld and develops a more authentic sense of self.
Why Luz Is A Positive Influence?
Amity's transformation into a better and more compassionate person was strongly influenced by her friendship with Luz Noceda. When Luz entered Amity's life, she challenged the rigid expectations set by Amity's family and offered genuine friendship. Luz's positive influence on Amity stems from her acceptance and encouragement. Since Luz doesn't judge Amity based on her family background or talents, this acceptance allows Amity to gradually break free from the toxic influences of her parents. Through various adventures and shared experiences, Luz helps Amity rediscover her own values and passions.
As their friendship evolves into a romantic relationship, Amity learns the importance of authenticity and staying true to herself. Luz's influence empowers Amity to challenge societal norms and expectations, fostering a sense of independence and self-discovery.
Her Friendship With Willow
Tumblr media
"Understanding Willow" is a pivotal episode in "The Owl House" where Amity confronts the regrets and pain she caused Willow due to her past actions and toxic friendships. In this episode, viewers witness the depth of Amity's character as she reflects on her role in distancing herself from Willow and succumbing to the toxic influence of her friend group, particularly Boscha and Skara.
This episode also marked a turning point for Amity as she decided to make amends with Willow. This act of vulnerability and apology demonstrates her willingness to break free from the toxic patterns in her life, thanks to Luz. It sets the stage for Amity's broader character development, paving the way for her eventual growth into a more better person.
Luz Is Amity's First Crush
Tumblr media
Amity's revelation of her attraction to women, particularly her crush on Luz, in "Enchanting Grom Fright" can be relatable to many teenagers discovering their own sexuality.
Amity's realization and expression of her feelings for Luz capture the uncertainty and excitement that often accompany one's first crush. When Grom attacks her, and Amity's worst fear is seen as being romantically rejected by someone unspecified, shown by Grom tearing up a note, Amity was seen throughout the episode. Luz reassures her it's alright and offers to go to Grom with her instead, as that's what friends do.
Amity and Luz then team up and fight Grom by dancing together, where they are portrayed to be extremely close while doing so. After their dance, it is revealed to the audience that it was Luz who Amity had been planning to ask out to Grom but didn't out of her fear of rejection.
Certainly, the intensity of Amity's feelings for Luz has been a notable and recurring theme in both Season 1 and Season 2 of "The Owl House." The blushing moments between Amity and Luz serve as visual cues to emphasize the romantic undertones of their relationship.
How They Fell In Love?
At first, Amity sees Luz as a rival and is dismissive of her unconventional approach to magic. Amity's uptightness and desire to maintain her status as the top student clash with Luz's spontaneous and chaotic nature. Despite their differences, Luz's persistence and kindness slowly break down Amity's initial resistance.
As Amity and Luz spend more time together, they begin to form a genuine connection. Amity starts to appreciate Luz's unique perspective and adventurous spirit, which contrasts with her own practical and regimented approach to magic. Throughout their adventures, these experiences deepen their bond and allow Amity to see Luz in a new light. As their friendship evolved, Amity began to realize her feelings for Luz. Despite her initial resistance and the societal expectations placed upon her, Amity embraces her love for Luz, recognizing that their differences complement each other. Ultimately, it's Luz's uniqueness, kindness, and unwavering support that lead Amity to fall in love with her.
Will They, Won't They?
The show subverted the common "Will They, Won't They" trope by providing a more nuanced and progressive approach to the development of romantic relationships, particularly the central one between Luz and Amity. Rather than drawing out the tension over multiple seasons, the show addresses Amity's feelings for Luz relatively early in the series. This allows for a more extended exploration of their relationship beyond the initial stage of uncertainty.
The show also doesn't rely heavily on misunderstandings or miscommunication between Luz and Amity to create drama. Instead, it focuses on their genuine connection, allowing the relationship to progress organically. This subverts the common trope of prolonged miscommunication, leading to unnecessary tension.
While the romantic aspect is crucial, the foundation of Luz and Amity's relationship is built on a strong and supportive friendship.
Becoming An Official Couple
Tumblr media
In the episode "Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door ", the Tunnel of Love scene shows the depth of their characters and the relatable challenges they face in expressing their feelings.
Luz's Perspective: Luz's awkwardness and reluctance in the Tunnel of Love stem from her past experiences of being mocked for her unconventional behavior. This fear of rejection has likely been exacerbated by instances where her crushes didn't reciprocate her feelings, making her cautious and hesitant in expressing herself romantically.
Luz's attempt to stop the ride and dismantle the romantic setting reflects her desire to show Amity a grand and unique romantic gesture. She may feel that Amity deserves something more extraordinary than what the Tunnel of Love provides, inadvertently overlooking the fact that Amity finds the gesture charming.
Amity's Perspective: On the other hand, Amity was seeking confirmation that Luz reciprocates her feelings. The romantic setting of the Tunnel of Love, despite its cheesiness, is a sign to Amity that Luz might share her romantic interest. Amity's genuine flattery and blushing indicate that she appreciates the gesture, but Luz's reaction misleads her. Amity's fear of rejection, rooted in past experiences such as Grom taking Luz's form and tearing her note, resurfaces. Luz's destructive response triggers Amity's trauma, as she believes Luz is rejecting her. The heartbroken expression mirrors the pain of potential rejection.
The episode hints at Luz's past experiences of bullying on Earth, likely due to her neurodivergence and inability to conform to societal norms. Amity's socially inept behavior is a result of her strict upbringing, making both characters relatable to those who have faced similar challenges.
Their First Kiss
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first kiss between Luz and Amity in "Clouds on the Horizon" is a heartfelt moment in their relationship. Amity's vulnerability, coupled with Luz's genuine concern, sets the stage for a deepening emotional connection when Luz used vines to climb to Amity's room and the privacy provided by Amity's siblings leaving emphasize the intimacy of the moment.
Amity's uncertainty about Luz's safety adds a layer of tension that is beautifully resolved when they run to each other with joy upon realizing they are both safe. Luz's promise to take Amity on a real date showcases her commitment and care for Amity beyond the immediate circumstances. The unexpected kiss between Amity and Luz is a culmination of their growing feelings for each other. The blushing aftermath reflects the natural and tender awkwardness of two characters navigating new romantic territory.
Amity's decision to defend Luz against Odalia's dismissal is a powerful declaration of their relationship, marking a turning point in Amity's willingness to stand up for her feelings and challenge familial expectations.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Finally, in the series finale, "Watching and Dreaming," Luz and Amity's love for each other shines through as they confront their greatest challenges yet. From supporting each other in the dream realm to sharing a heartfelt reunion after the final battle, their bond remains unbreakable. The tender moments they share, including a kiss on the cheek and their affectionate embrace, affirm the depth of their feelings and the enduring nature of their relationship.
From their initial interactions marked by misunderstandings to the development of a deep and supportive connection, Lumity stands out for its positive representation.

Meet my interpretation of the previous Golden Guard, Credence
Tumblr media
Credence was created at age 18 and made Golden Guard at 22 where he picked up a talent for abominations and Illusions. Basically anything flashy. Rather than being isolated or directly abused by Belos, Belos put Credence on a pedestal and made sure coven members below the ranks would listen to him while also making frequent threats towards him in regards of his image. Credence was made to feel he had to be constantly making a show, proving that he’s not powerless.
Credence is a bit of a germaphobe, values personal grooming and image. He always try’s to present himself perfect but he’s a bit unprofessional. In short he’s a little shit.
To his knowledge, he has no family relation to Belos but rather a young adult who had passed the coven trails and gotten to terrible accident where wild witches attacked civilians who he heroically saved. That Belos saw his heart as pure and took him in despite his amnesia and lack in magic. (I like to think Belos raised his Golden Guards differently as tests) Where he was trained to become the Golden Guard, purest of them all.
He a bit of the “ideal” type in regards of being Golden Guard, which is where such a harsh standard was set on Hunter.
Tumblr media
He differs from Caleb due to having a straight nose and more narrow eyes as opposed to and aquiline nose and rounder/droopy eyes. His personality also differs greatly, he acts a bit like a nicer Adrian , if Adrian was a good person. Can come off as mean or arrogant but in reality he just likes putting on a show.
Tumblr media
Despite being Darius mentor, they are actually close in age. Credence was 23 he met Darius who was 22. Darius had been trying to climb the ranks in the Abomination coven when Credence stepped in a decided to take him under his wing. Credence was fascinated at the research Darius doing on merging flesh with abomination matter. They soon become good friends with light pining.
He revealed his face to Darius when he was 25, 3 years into their friendship.
The mentor title comes from the fact that Credence was essentially the one who advocated for Darius and taught him more combat oriented ways on abomination magic to fit in better in the Emperor’s coven. The whole mentor, student ting became a bit of a joke for them and way to fondly view each other.
Credence begins gathering data and information to go against the Emperor at age 26 due to Belos saying some stuff that contradicted the Titans will. Credence bagan questioning before finding some dirt on Belos which resulted in a confrontation.
Tumblr media
He went “missing” when he was 30 years old and then a two year old appeared. He was one of the longer lasting Golden Guards. He would have loved Hunter. Darius was 29 and regrets never admitting his love.
I head canon within the empire’s 50 years of existence, there was a total of 9 castle Golden Guards. Credence for 8 years and Hunter for 3 years.
I definitely have an another Golden Guard planned out to make, one before Credence with some stuff involving Lilith.
Also go help the timeline make sense, Darius and Eda are 43, Lilith 44 by the time Luz shows up.
I’ve been wanting to create some Grimwalkers lately and I’m glad my ideas are coming together.
