ghar ton naale ode ton.

kehndi eh ki karaan chete kar ke tenu

jihnu vekh ke main haase wich tut pendi si.
hun tenu vekhdeyaan tere munh te
mitti potan da jee karda hai.
tenu jhunjla ke
tere wichon pehlan wala tu kadan da jee karda hai.

The dangers of getting lost voluntarily
Getting lost voluntarily might seem like a romantic idea, the sheer freedom of doing whatever you want and becoming successful in all the material senses. The truth is, in your everyday hustle, you lose a part of you that you call yourself. You stop belonging to the collective consciousness that you called home. You drift off.
It takes a conscious effort to keep the above from happening. May we all realize this.

A Poem That Has Popped Into My Head Every Year on This Day for the Past 20 Years
Palm Leaves
at exactly twelve o’clock midnight
1973-74
Los Angeles
it began to rain on the
palm leaves outside my window
the horns and firecrackers
went off
and it thundered.
I’d gone to bed at 9 p.m.
turned out the lights
pulled up the covers–
their gaiety, their happiness
their screams, their paper hats,
their automobiles, their women,
their amateur drunks…
New Year’s Eve always terrifies
me
life knows nothing of years.
now the horns have stopped and
the firecrackers and the thunder…
it’s all over in five minutes…
all I hear is the rain
on the palm leaves,
and I think,
I will never understand men,
but I have lived
it through.

Wisdom and Motorcycles.
We should be doing things that make us forget we need to acquire wisdom. I do bike rides for that. Very few things make sense when you are all by yourself and riding at 116 kilometres per hour.
You hardly think about anything else. You laugh at your thoughts about how you need to make sense out of your life. You feel silly that you were thinking about being screwed.
A kind of clarity beams right at you. Its not just at such a high speed. My motorcycle does that to me irrespective of what speed I ride at.
What do you do to get hold of such moments?

Today, I overheard an apparently punjabi girl telling her friends that a non-punjabi guy was proclaiming himself as one because he exercised some peculiar trait common among punjabis. The girl,in return shunned off all her proclaimings.
God, we are so good at not letting the outsiders join the gang! :P
