‘Break in the winter showers’ The rains came down in sequences, rain, cold, breeze, then peaks of sunshine, repeat. The vines dormant, gathering the energy for the coming year’s fruit. The brief light of the sun on the greens of the land spurred by late winter rains brought a shimmering over the landscape, an egret soared across the small lake, the clouds rolled in a closed in on the light, while the breeze pulled up the scent of the surrounding herbs. “Through the clattering bamboo” - On the Pipiwai Trail heading for the falls, about 2/3 of the way there you come to a section of the path crowded by towering bamboo. Some of the turns were blind, unable to see the next bend or full path ahead, an almost maze like experience, though we hurried a bit to be sure we made it to the falls, since daylight was beginning to diminish in supply, I tried to take the scenery in, the path reminded me of Kyoto and temple paths in Japan. The day was breezy and the bamboo clacked together, the sounds reminded me of kendo school, the bamboo shinai & hard wood bokkens clashing is rhythmic discordance. Sounds of birds dances through the swishing of the bamboo tops, daylight barely penetrating the forest floor. There were feral hogs rooting through dirt, dampened by a morning rain, casting deep earth smells which mingled with the unseen but highly fragrant honeysuckle closest to the falls. ‘The Golden Hour’ She stood in the corner, Radiant against the blue lights shading into black. She shimmered in sapphire and gold. Everyone stared, but hesitated to approach. ‘On the River’ - took a quick to to Chicago, so much to see & never enough time, didn’t get a chance to hit the spots I really wanted, much less hang out with the friends that live there.
