It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a fanfiction binder in possession of one trade bind, must be in want of a second. Red Tulip, I’m thrilled this sorta-maybe-kinda-smells-like-the-theme bind, gave you a chuckle!

Quidditch captain Harry meets extraordinary healer Draco in a P&P-esque, bound as a sports magazine because why not? I used 11x17 printed on my new fancy inkjet and thin, laminated photo paper for the cover.

The ads are loosely based on events or random tidbits in the fic - and yes. I had way too much fun coming up with them. Thank you Phoenix for being my main sounding board. 🖤

Can’t Afford to Fall - p103

This lovely bind was bound for redtulipsbindery for our 1-to-1 trade. The goal was to bind a Drarry fic with “old timey letter/communication” vibes. Me being me, immediately thought typewriter (hence the delicious typewriter keys” - and from there is spiraled into vintage junk journaling.

There are little nods to the fic hidden amongst all the layers here - most notably the “De-Extinguisher“ Harry gifts Draco.

This is THE single most amount of layers I have ever had in play at once. The just jacket was SO much fun to play around with.

I wanted to pair it with an aestheticly classics cover so I used this mahogany Allure bookcloth from @hollanders.book.and.paper.arts - it doesn’t take HTV nicely so I opted for a naked cover.

The speckled edges were an experiment - and while not perfect, they match the books colors so lovely.

I’m pleased with how this bind turned out! 🖤 I think it’s safe to say, from the number of videos I was sent upon its arrival, that it was well received.

This was our chosen fic to bind for our local binders meetup. I’m terrible. I had so much other stuff happening the past few months I totally blind bound, but now that I have my own copy from @anxiousbatbindery I’m going to make sure I read it! Funny story, we swapped today so we got each others binds. 🤣

My printed cover unfortunately has a little oopsie I noticed last minute where my title text shifted. But overall I was happy with how it turned out.

His playsets of “Getting Started in Bookbinding” and “Rounded and Backed Cased Book” were the absolute most helpful.

I’ve also just dropped into binders DMs and asked about specific parts of binding when I’m stuck.

As for cover design 😅 go with your heart! Haha that’s terrible advice I know. I use the paid version of Canva. Usually when I read a fic I have imagery or main themes that come to mind. I then try to throw all of those onto some paper and refine from there. Unfortunately I can’t help much in the way of creative process there.

Art Heist, Baby by otrtbs

Watch the tags. MCD hits you HARD! Right to the heart. No recovery. Insta death. 💀💔 Despite the pain, I knew I desperately wanted to bind this fic and I wanted it to be classy. I went all in on the artwork for the “Gathering Storm” painted by Ivan Aivazovsky. IYKYK. This is my typeset for those soft hearted souls, where you may choose to stop at 92% where “they live happily ever after” or you can continue to heartbreak and depression and eventual kinda sorta catharsis. My chapter headers changed to full black with black edges to delineate the moment of no return.

I wanted to highlight the nautical side of the artwork, and when I saw this fabric months ago, I knew I needed it for this bind. HTV was a bitch (when is it not?) but it turned out lovely in contrast to the bookcloth. The dust jacket in contrast is black and white to highlight the pink sticky note on the back cover but also to tie into the last few chapters. You know in video games when a character dies and the screen fades to black? I wanted to evoke the sense of loss, of missing the color in the world because that loss is so great. Art that’s not quite art because you’re missing the one thing that makes it meaningful.

Significantly more notice is paid five years later, however, when one Jayce Talis is expelled after his trial by the Piltover Council. In this world, there is no keen-eyed assistant to the Dean to read through his notebook and to talk him off the ledge—but against all odds, Jayce manages to find Viktor anyways.
