Draco Malfoy, It’s Your Lucky Day by Faith Wood
Even though he's unarmed, injured, lost in the Forbidden Forest, and facing a possible murder charge, Draco Malfoy gets lucky.
Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Fandom: Harry Potter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the first fics I ever read on ao3 (yes, I went through my history to check), and still one of my favorites. I’m not sure why this fic in particular stood out to me, but it’s so well done—definitely a unique concept for an Eighth Year fic.
Quarter-Letter | 37,382 words | 228 pages
Drop Cap: Ardenwood Body: EB Garamond
Typset and bound by me in InDesign. Cover designed in Illustrator.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most time-consuming part of this bind was definitely the cover design—I spent way too long messing around on illustrator to create the design on the cover (which I wish I had added into the original typset before I printed, but own well). Then, when I went to cut it out with HTV, a lot of the smaller details ended up getting lost anyway.
It was my first time doing sprinkled edges on a book, which I chose to do for the deckled edge, and I have mixed feelings on how it turned out.
Cover Bookcloth: Verona in Espresso Spine Bookcloth: Hamartan Goat Leather in Black HTV: Siser Brand in Gold Metal Endbands: Mettler Silk Finish Thread
Draco Malfoy, It's Your Lucky Day is free to read on ao3 here.
My mess of an illustrator cover file.
Tumblr media
Another small detail, but I’ve finally made a mock-copyright page design that I like. It’s going in all my InDesign typesets.

The Sorcerer & The King by winterhill
Canon AU -- Merlin's death is only the beginning; with no-one to protect the kingdom, Camelot falls to an enemy sorcerer and Arthur is forced to serve in the court that he once ruled. When an escape attempt goes horribly wrong, Arthur is rescued by someone he never expected to see again -- and it's their destiny to put things right.

Title Font: Neoteric, Ever, Celticmd
Body Fonts: Pilgrim, Far From Homecoming, YOZAKURA, Aliya Ramsey
More on the process below the cut!
Ah, this wonderful fic! This was a fic I hadn't read before @runawaymarbles put it on my radar, and it was utterly wonderful! Proof still that the well of fic is deep and vast, and there will always be another beautiful story waiting for you.
I had a lot of fun binding this one; aiming for a tome kind of vibe, with a full Better Than Goat leather case, deckled edges, and gold accents coupled with the Celtic medallion, which boasts both a dragon and a trinity knot. I thought this was fitting, given that the coin analogy between Merlin and Arthur comes up quite a bit in this fic - the idea that, because it's a canon AU, they've strayed away from their destiny, and what that could mean for Camelot. The trinity knot also symbolizes the cyclical relationship between life, death, and rebirth, which is another recurring theme throughout the story.
I also chose some medieval, old-style elements for my typeset, include the side ornaments, and making the margins bigger on the whole. I definitely need to bind more Merlin fic; I forgot how much of a delight this fandom is!

Merlin Binding
I wanted to make a gift for my absolute fandom bestie, so I put together an anthology of three of forcryinoutloud's Merlin fics: Idiosyncratic Romance, The Hands of Fate, and King Once and King to Be. (note: they are locked on A03).
I knew as soon as I thought about it I wanted a medieval inspired, illuminated manuscript type design. The cover is faux suede with gold foil, and the dragon is Arthur's coat of arms.

More details under the cut!
I have been working on this for what feels like months. I had the typeset and design complete and then did a complete 180 and decided on the notebook style theme.
Each chapter header is different, with something that references that particular chapter in different types of handwriting!
The cover incorporates both James' football team with a Hogwarts football team emblem and Regulus' art with paint splatters complete with red endbands and a red marker ribbon with a football charm.
I carried on the sketchy/messy theme onto the jacket as well as using this beautiful artwork from cuckooboo, who kindly let me use their art for this!
I probably wouldn't have completed this if it weren't for @zerobindery, I feel like every step something went wrong but she was so supportive and my biggest cheerleader throughout this, ily ❤️

My first fanfiction book binding project: The wonderful story ‘The bird, the fog, the mist’ by the super talented @spookybeez
Honestly, everybody who loves a 'Jason Todd gets his family back'- story should check it out, it's so good <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I’m not super happy with how I bound it, I made way too many mistakes. Also, I had like this plan to make drawings for each chapter but somehow real life got in the way and I only found time to paint the cover art. So I probably have to bind it again in the future!)

One by One by CourierNew
Did a fanbinding of an Undertale fanfic! This was the first Undertale fic I ever read when I first got into the fandom, so I have quite the soft spot for it. I used homemade bookcloth and used permanent vinyl I cut with a Cricut to do the socer design. I used images from Dover publishing books for the decorative title page and chapter titles.

Lestappen - Bookbinding
A while ago I asked if I could bind "Devils Roll The Dice (Angels Roll Their Eyes)" by the talented @lestappenforever and this is the result! I am so happy that I can now hold the fic that threw me into the fandom in my hands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still not the most experienced when it comes to bookbinding but I hope I could do the amazing fic justice!❤️💙
Details on the process below the cut if you're interested in that.
First, printing the text block. This is the most nerve-wrecking moment because i always worry that I might have missed a chapter or put them in the wrong order. But everything worked out well and seeing it all come together is beautiful.
Tumblr media
Then comes the sewing, the most soothing part for me. Also the one that takes the longest but it's what I like most about the whole process.
Tumblr media
I really wanted to make a hardcover from scratch but I just couldn't figure out how to make one with the materials I had at hand. The bookcloth already fell apart because the fabric wouldn't stick to the backing paper. And when I tried gluing it onto the spine it got even worse. So I threw the whole thing out and just made a paperback. Here is the failed attempt of a hardcover:
Tumblr media
And one last picture of the fic on my shelf next to my last fic I bound myself (title censored because I'm embarrassed lol)
Tumblr media
Really happy with how everything turned out! :D

ever in your favor by @iron--spider
Peter startles awake when someone shakes him.
“Sorry, honey,” May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. She’s trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. “But it’s…” She glances away, wets her lips. “You gotta get ready.”
He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.

More on the process below the cut!
I have...SO much to say about this project! This fic was one that I've wanted to do ever since I started fanbinding, and it was one I saved until my technical skills caught up with my vision for the book. @iron--spider is my favorite author and a wonderful friend, and I wanted to be able to do this masterwork justice!
Given that it's a Hunger Games AU, I wanted to touch on the Hunger Games aesthetic while still being unique. I started with the cover; I knew I wanted red and yellow, something bold and evocative of the Iron Man, Spiderman vibe. It also doubles as an implication of the blood spilt during the games, especially in volume II - when Peter actually enters the games. I chose the spider for the cover, and painted it on the cover paper with inky black paint; I cut a stencil, and while the images did have some drippy areas, I don't mind it so much. It's meant to look like graffiti, Peter's symbol that the people of the Districts scrawl everywhere they can get away with it.
In turn, I also experimented with a paint pen on this one of the titling, done on the spine piece, which is black Better Than Goat leather! Again, I went in with a stencil, and opted for blockier letters, like something you might see spray painted onto a wall.
The endpapers are custom; I messed around with a weird cityscape I found and came out with the image you see above. The setting for the games is a futuristic city, much like MCU NYC would be, complete with an Avengers Stane tower.
And then of course, there's the typeset itself! The Hunger Games books don't have particularly striking typesets, but I did go for the dystopian vibe with the Rustic Printed font on the chapter numbers, and Moonglade for the chapter titles, giving it a very industrial feel.
It was also a pleasure to include the art that @angel-gidget did for the fic as well! Her book covers are so gorgeous and I love her manip style so much <3 I also included the short drabble @iron--spider did on her Tumblr, a post-story snack-sized fic, as well as a meta question she answered via her asks that I thought was particularly interesting. The District guide at the back, including what Districts each character belongs to and whether or not they are deceased was interesting to put together, and I hope I didn't make any mistakes!
Last, but certainly not least, this book was the first one I was able to do really nice headbands on. Shoutout to @morningstarbindery who helped me learn how! They look phenomenal and I never would have figured it out on my own <3
I'm excited for everyone to see these books! One day I'll have all your works on my shelf ;)

🦦My first ever Snamione and 3 piece bookbinding 🦦
Lately i am obsessed with Victorian era and victorian era fanfictions, An Act of Charity by Ciule is one of the best fanfic ever writing about Victorian era wizarding world.
I really enjoy the plot and the characterization!
When i read a fanfic i like to read canon characters, ooc is not my cup of tea. So this fiction, i definitely read again and again!
About 3 piece binding i only watched @ ladybobbitt ‘s video about it and that was so helpful for me, i really like her tutorials.
I like to add gold corners and roses to covers this is really suit fiction i think. And after Harrie and her Alpha this is my favorite typeset ever! 🦦💖
