Oh no please don’t let this be the way I finally understand Bayes
There's much more jizz in a sperm bank than in a regular set of balls. So if you see some jizz you might think "that came from a sperm bank, surely". But in fact balls are far more common than sperm banks. So in the end it's more likely it came directly from some balls. Bayes theorem.

the secret to organising any kind of trip with your friends is to become the benevolent dictator. do NOT wait for everyone to provide a consensus on things before you book anything. do it and then ask for feedback after. do not ask people what they would like to do just tell them what is happening and let them all nod along like the sheep they are. this is the ONLY way to coordinate a group of adults in their 20s/30s

People keep asking if I am a #crook. I am not a #crook. I’m an honest person who would never go around #StealingYourMoney.
And needless to say, I don’t #FuckCars either.

Is he, you know... *limp wrist gesture* ...Korean?
Performance of straight womanhood for white Americans involves performance of like, gentlessness. White girls move their hands in this floaty airy way. Performance of straight womanhood in Japan involves performance of cutesiness. Japanese girls [these days?] move their hands in a different way, I guess with less "grace" because cutesiness involves a calculated lack of grace.
I talked recently about guys who have been in the military and how they move their hands. Lots of this horizontal chopping gesture when speaking, I guess to indicate a succession of points or ideas.
Lots of different gender performances out there. Lots of things you can do with your hands.

Ok ok last ai post for a while. I have a question about SEO. Scammy websites post weird gibberish to boost their Google ranking and Google tries to filter it out, over and over. So what happens when people treat AI like a search engine and it runs into all that gibberish on the internet?
I could imagine it having worse discernment than Google, because none of them have literal decades of training in spotting scammer tricks. But I could also imagine it doing better, because AI is more capable of making fuzzy determinations like “is this website sketchy”.
I know AI blog posts are shaping up to be the new SEO, so this point may become moot soon. But I’m curious how the new bots and the old bots interact.

There are niche-but-surviving markets for fair trade food and non-animal-tested cosmetics, so it’s not impossible to sustain an opinion about the ethics of producing a thing in the absence of tangible differences in the thing itself.
Right now AI producers prefer a loose-copyright regime because the entire internet has yet to be crawled. What happens when every company has crawled over every publicly-accessible scrap, and there’s no more easy wins? I bet private datasets become the next big thing, and companies turn on a dime to protect their new secret sauces.
Mark my words, as soon as Big Tech remembers that copyright is good again, Tumblr will find a reason that it’s actually bad!
I don't think it would be challenging to make an image generator that "respects copyright" (you could train it on public domain art and photos but you could also license massive libraries of stock photos and TV shows and book/album covers etc. from the media companies that hold the rights to them) and I think the existence of such a generator would not lead people currently mad about AI to suddenly be cool with it because it's really not about copyright.

It’s this: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/this-japanese-shrine-has-been-torn-down-and-rebuilt-every-20-years-for-the-past-millennium-575558/
"geranium" really sounds like it should be on the periodic temple. that's not the name of a flower that's a radioactive soft metal

Byzantine girls can’t metamorphose... all they know is study classics, usurp their brother, eat honey fig and lie
“It is extraordinary that nobody nowadays under the stress of great troubles is turned into stone or a bird or a tree or some inanimate object; they used to undergo such metamorphoses in ancient times (or so they say), though whether that is myth or a true story I know not. Maybe it would be better to change one’s nature into something that lacks all feeling, rather than be so sensitive to evil. Had that been possible, these calamities would in all probability have turned me to stone.”
— The Alexiad, written by Anna Komnene, the daughter of the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, c. 1148.

If companies really thought passwords were soooooo insecure and they don’t wanna be responsible for storing yours, then they would also stop storing people’s credit card info. But every poob and cringl still offers to “remember my card for next time” so I really don’t buy the security explanation.
first they made it mandatory to log in everywhere. create an account to download your free template Log in to access resource give us your email nowwwww. Now the humble password is being killed too. open your magic email link! type your 6 digit code that we texted you because we required your email and your phone number! we’re gonna call you and whisper a code sweetly in your ear so you can log in to your account. yes it has a password but you cant use that anymore. okay? poob is gonna call you. now poob is just gonna call you.

My work put in a bunch of new accounting rules at once, knowing full well that some of them contradict each other and others don’t cover more than the most basic cases. So I’ve got these numbers that don’t add up and I know at least some of em must be fudged, but I don’t know which ones I’m allowed to fudge and my boss keeps dodging my questions.
I’ve never really felt the need to get checked out for neurodivergence because it’s never held me back in life. But being unable to navigate these new social rules, when everyone else seems to just roll with it, got me thinking for the first time there’s something wrong with me. Puts a new spin on autism/adhd rates rocketing up - how many of the social rules around being a kid these days are the equivalent of my fudged-up spreadsheet?

Just as an example of how far the Tumblr bubble is from the general public. I’ve got some coworkers who put in their email signatures “I’m proud to say AI helped me write this email”.
These people get promotions.
