Kittens banned from YouTube? Charlie Sheen for president? Let's be honest. That's never gonna happen. But one thing we CAN make happen? The beginning of the end of AIDS by 2015. I just urged Congress to fund life-saving programs that fight AIDS in next year's US budget. Will you join us? http://act.one.org/sign/end_of_aids/?referring_akid=.5518575.WiYL2w&source=mailto

Today is World Water Day. The United Nations created this day in 1993 to shine a bright spotlight on the global safe water and sanitation issue as well as collective efforts to help those in need. If you're not practicing water conservation already, perhaps turn those sprinklers off today and remember that water need not continuously run while brushing teeth and washing dishes. UN-Water calls attention this year to eating habits as a source of the world's water crisis. "There are 7 billion people to feed on the planet today and another 2 billion are expected to join by 2050. Statistics say that each of us drinks from 2 to 4 litres of water every day, however most of the water we 'drink' is embedded in the food we eat."
Join us and let's make the crisis history http://bit.ly/GGIPcd

Hunger Strike Set for March15-16th 2012
Hello Friends,
We are back again and this time we are mad about Genocide. On Thursday March 15th at 6pm until Friday march 16th at 6pm, we are going on a Hunger Strike supporting United to End Genocide's Day of Action (Part of Save Darfur Coalition). So join us this time, because Genocide is this day and age is UNACCEPTABLE!!
Here's the Deal:
We are United to End Genocide
Save Darfur Coalition and the Genocide Intervention Network are now United to End Genocide, the largest activist organization in America dedicated to preventing and ending genocide and mass atrocities worldwide. Both organizations led the historic movement to demand an end to genocide in Darfur. For the first time, elected leaders took action to stop genocide — because millions of people took a stand and spoke out in one voice to say, "You must!"
The new name reflects our expanded mission and our commitment to work together to prevent and end genocide and mass atrocities. We are faith leaders, students, artists, investors and genocide survivors, and all those who believe we must fulfill the promise the world made following the Holocaust — "Never Again!"
We became United to End Genocide because the power of our shared voice and action is needed now more than ever. Too many people in Darfur and all of Sudan are still suffering at the hands of Omar al-Bashir, Sudan's president and architect of the Darfur genocide. And too many people everywhere — in Libya, in Syria, in Cote d'Ivoire and Burma — need to know that the United States and other nations will act to stop atrocities and prevent genocide.
We believe the only way to prevent mass atrocities and to end genocide once and for all, is to build a large, powerful activist network — a sustainable movement — that will sound the alarm and demand action by our elected leaders to protect all who face these threats, anywhere in the world.

Bono Needs Your HELP...
The F Word: "Famine is the Real Obscenity"
Dear Members of Congress,
The famine in Somalia has killed 30,000 children in 3 months. In 2011 we have the opportunity to make famine a thing of the past. Lives are in your hands. Please fully fund Feed the Future and help break the cycle of famine for good. The reasons for the famine in the Horn of Africa are complex and solutions are difficult, especially in Somalia, but we can’t lose sight of some simple facts:
1. 30,000 children have died in just 3 months.  Thirty thousand.  With over 12 million people at risk.
2. Famine is not a natural catastrophe – drought doesn't have to lead to famine.  It can be prevented, as we have seen in much of Kenya and Ethiopia.
In the 21st century, it's an obscenity that people are dying because they can't get enough food to eat.  Every one of those 30,000 children is part of a family – a son, a daughter, sister or brother.  We can't imagine what it must be like to starve to death, but most of us know what it's like to lose someone we love.
Please watch the film and make use of the voice you have -- sign the petition.  It will make a difference in putting pressure on world leaders to do more to help those in need right now, and live up to promises already made to invest in the things proven to work – early warning systems...irrigation...drought resistant seeds… and of course, peace and security.
Thanks for reading.

World Bank Increases Aid to Horn of Africa
The World Bank has announced it is increasing funding for the drought in the Horn of Africa to nearly $2 Billion.
It says that the funds are needed to provide humanitarian assistance to millions of people. The World Bank says countries across the region face one of the worst droughts in more than half a century. The conditions, it says, are causing increasing malnutrition and food insecurity, and are displacing large numbers of people.
Providing humanitarian assistance to Somalis remains the biggest challenge because of its continuing civil conflict and the soaring cost of food.
The UN has estimated that 10,000 people have died across the region and the crisis could get worse in the coming weeks.

From Project M.A.D to YOU...
As our 24-hour hunger strike comes to an end (10 minutes left) we wanted to once again thank everyone who supported Project M.A.D. and contributed to our cause to help those in need in Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Eritrea, and Ethiopia. Your kind donations have meant so much to us and have made a world of difference to those in need. With the money we have raised 50 children will have 10 days worth of food and that will mean the difference between life and death for some.
We challenged you to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and you did just that - thank you!

Ria writes about our 24 hour Hunger Strike
It’s funny that I have had to write the letter H on my hand, so I’ll remember not to eat for 24 hours, while there are those in Africa right now, who can’t even get a piece of bread or water to save their lives and the lives of their children. When I first saw the images on CNN, I knew I had to do something, and of course I always think of the extreme… “I want to go over there and help” but in reality I knew they needed money or supplies to save their lives. So, when the idea came about of this hunger strike to raise funds, of course I jumped on it. I have to say, I am beyond words from all the support the project has gotten thus far and I can only hope it gets more support because we are not stopping here; this is only the being for Project MAD.   I am six hours into the strike as I write this and I can only hope that those who read it, would somehow be inspired enough to want to join this cause and help those in Africa.  In Somalia right now one child dies every six minutes…yes six minutes! This is the worst drought in 60 years, and because of it, it has left 13 million people in a state of crisis, that is greater than the population of New York and Los Angeles combined.  Can you imagine, living a life like this, where as a parent you don’t know if your two year old will make it to the next day, or even if you will make it. No one should have to long for food or water, but sadly that is not the case. I hope as you read this, you know that we can all do our part, even if we are worlds away.

What will you be doing for the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Peace? Make A Difference by taking part in our 24-hour hunger strike starting on September 20th at 6:00pm. We hope to raise awareness and funds for the people of the Horn of Africa.
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by a United Nations resolution and the first official "Peace Day" was celebrated in September 1982. It was created to provide an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to intentionally create practical acts of peace on a shared date. In 2002, the U.N. officially declared September 21st as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.

Parts of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are facing one of the worst droughts for 60 years, and more than 12 million people are desperately in need of food, clean water and basic sanitation.
Despite the urgency of the situation, most world leaders are responding too slowly. Immediate aid is essential. Yet at the same time we must not let them drop the ball on long term solutions as has too often happened in the past.

Famine has gripped another swath of southern Somalia, according to the United Nation with more than 750,000 of the country’s nearly 8 million people now at risk of starvation.
The Somalia famine has spread to the Bay region, where acute malnutrition afflicts a majority of children, the UN says. Aid experts say the starving are losing the strength to reach refugee camps.
