I saw something I’ve been wanting to see my whole life. This dodo. Ever since I saw the Wild Kratts there, I’ve needed to go. And today, I finally went. As soon as I entered the museum, I dragged my dad straight there. I tried to hold back my tears, but I failed. I will never forget this

HELP... I made an entire fanfic for one of the fandoms that I am in on my alt account (@nicleotidez) and I made it canon that (almost) everyone is racist towards IBWOs because they can... (unfortunately this is still canon btw, it plays an important part in the story because the main character is literally an ivory-bill)
Happy birthday to me! Have some photos of extinct bird specimens that I took at the RAMM today.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Hehehe RAMM stands for Royal Albert Memorial Museum, it's basically this museum in Exeter (UK) that looks small on the outside but contains loads of cool stuff (with these specimens being some of them) and collections!! I honestly didn't expect to see any extinct birds there, hence my overreaction when I saw the specimens lol
I think they even have a Tumblr account lol... I didn't realize that when I posted this though

After a long hiatus, I am FINALLY able to work on this little project as my stress levels have gone down due to uni!!
As I'm updating the official art of these sillies, here's the stuff that I have altered based on a balance of both scientific and stylistic purposes! I hope to post more content and little comics about extinct birds soon!!

September 1, 1914 - September 1, 2024: 110th anniversary of the extinction of the passenger pigeon
Tumblr media
Featuring @nicleotidez's clone of Martha the passenger pigeon.
I will never forget what happened on September 1, even though I (obviously) wasn't even born back then.
We could have done something to stop the extinction of the passenger pigeon, but all we cared back then was to hunt them all so that they all would eventually meet their demise.
And they did. The birds fell from the sky and onto the ground.
Their flocks were so massive, they used to block the sun. Their flocks were so massive, they couldn't easily dodge all those shots aimed at them by humanity.
Even when Martha was announced to be the last one of them, no one cared. They threw sand at her, seeing if she would move or not. They ignored her, only caring about the big reward that they would get if they had successfully found a partner for her.
It was not until she passed away when humanity finally cared. They blamed themselves for not noticing the signs of extinction earlier. They blamed themselves for overhunting and deforestation. It was all useless, as the passenger pigeon was already gone.
Around a century after the passenger pigeon was discovered by those colonizers, it had already vanished - their blood staining our hands, showing us what we had done to them.
Martha, we miss you. We're sorry.
Flocks a Mile Wide - Christopher Tin
The song that inspired this artwork, composed as a tribute to the passenger pigeon.

March 6 | Happy Birthday, James T. Tanner!
Tumblr media
In all seriousness, James T. Tanner is one of my biggest inspirations in life. I admire his dedication in searching for the ivory-billed woodpecker and how he stood up for them when corporate greed threatened to destroy one of their last known habitats. Never actually read his book about the ivory-billed woodpecker, but I would love to do so if I can get my hands on a physical or online copy of it. It's a shame that it's so hard for me to find...
If you want to know more about James T. Tanner, I recommend reading the book "Ghost Birds" by Stephen Lyn Bales - way easier to obtain, a lot more information about Jim and his life. Had a blast reading it, very good book.
Thank you for existing, James T. Tanner. Happy birthday.

Nakeiki's birthday is on the 29th of November, but I'm posting this today because I just finished it and I am quite proud of it. The extinct bird comics will return in this art style very soon.
