Friendly Encounter Fandom: Fangs of Fortune Characters: Zhuo Yichen, Ying Lei Rating: Explicit
Ying Lei cuts Yichen off by leaning in and pressing their lips together. Yichen’s eyes go wide as they linger there for a moment, firm and warm, until Ying Lei pulls away. He shakes his head and splutters, “What did you do that for?” “You looked like you needed to be kissed. Want to do it again?” Just two friends being bros, or Yichen's sexual awakening.

Guilt
Fandom: Love Between Fairy and Devil Characters: Dongfang Qingcang, Xiao Lanhua Rating: T Gift fic for @eldritch-bisexual Also available on AO3
Guilt. It permeates everything, every speck of consciousness that he has, which isn't much in this state.
Names repeat in his mind. Tai Sui. Shangque. Xunfeng. Changheng. Xiao Lanhua. Xiao Lanhua. Xiao Lanhua.
Xiao Lanhua.
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
Her voice feels so far away. “Da Matou,” she says, and he would smile if he could.
“Da Matou, are you waiting for something?” A drip then, water and something cool. “You can come back any time. We're waiting for you.”
Waiting? Who is waiting?
He should be dead. He realizes that one time. The goddess had sealed him away with Tai Sui, and the memory rises sharp and unbidden. It had hurt, not worse than the spikes but nearly as bad, fire and ice filling his body as it pulled and pushed and finally disintegrated into nothing.
He is nothing. So why is he here?
You have more to do, his consciousness tells him. You have to make things right.
That's right. He hurt Xiao Lanhua. Hurt her terribly; he did the unthinkable, the unforgivable. He needs to make amends.
Guilt fuels him now, the only emotion he remembers.
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
Days pass. He isn't always aware, except sometimes he hears her voice. It drags him back to consciousness from the deep slumber of his soul. Sometimes she talks to him, sometimes to others. He wants to call to her and tell her he can hear, but he has no voice.
He recognizes Xunfeng's voice, sometimes angry, sometimes soft. The brother he betrayed not once, but twice. Does he know? Does he understand why he did what he did? Xunfeng has never been in love, as far as he knows. How could Xunfeng ever understand, ever forgive him for abandoning him again?
Shangque... his dragon, his lieutenant, whom he also betrayed. Shangque would do anything for him, but this last task was his and his alone.
The guilt builds day by day. What is the point of this existence? He should be there or be dead, and this in-between, he realizes, is cruel to Xiao Lanhua. He can hear the hope in her voice. But he isn't coming back. How could he come back? All of his spiritual energy was spent in defeating the god. It's gone, an emptiness in the pit of where his stomach would be if he had a body. That pulsing bit of energy that manifested the greatest magic the three kingdoms ever knew is now a hole in the universe.
But something has kept him alive. His consciousness pushes out, retracting quickly when it hits a wall. He'll never make it back. He needs to tell her this.
He needs to tell her many things.
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
A spark one day, the briefest glow before it is gone. Dongfang Qingcang remembers his name, remembers his purpose. The Moon Kingdom needs its Moon Supreme. How many others has he betrayed?
He had tried to believe it was a selfless act. He had lied to himself and said if it would save Xiao Lanhua then it could not be selfish. Her life meant more than his. That, at least, is the truth.
He could not live in a world without Xiao Lanhua. That is also the truth.
But how many now cursed his name for his selfish choice?
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
Guilt melts into sorrow. Dongfang Qingcang mourns his body. He mourns the sweet honey bread and moon cakes and rich red wine. He mourns the touch of soft hands and soft hair and soft lips, pressed to his with a quiet fire. He mourns the past and the future.
Another emotion, next: anger. Anger for them both. None of this is fair, but the world is not fair. His father had beaten that into him plenty of times. Watching those he loved be taken had solidified it as truth.
And yet, the days pass, and Dongfang Qingcang begins to become aware of the hours. The days are long but the years are short, and the guilt returns at making her wait. How will he ever make this up to her?
He imagines seeing her again, drawing her into his arms. He imagines their wedding, the grandest in the three kingdoms. He imagines the jewels and the silk, the gold and diamonds that shine like her eyes. He imagines them skin to skin. He imagines them together.
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
Xunfeng's voice: It's been three hundred years. You can't stay here forever.
He feels pity for her, for all of them. Has it truly been that long? How cruel Dongfang Qingcang is to make them all wait.
Changheng's voice: The kingdoms need the goddess. Can you think of leaving Xishan for a bit?
Jealousy flares. Who would take Xiao Lanhua from his side? Don't they know her voice is the only thing keeping him tethered to whatever consciousness this is?
Shangque's voice: Are you sure he can come back?
Fear, then. Fear that he can't do this. Fear this is all a mistake.
Fear that when he can finally wake up, she won't see him. She will look at him with the same hurt she had in the throne room, and she will turn and walk away. She will say she has done her duty as the goddess of Xishan and wants nothing more to do with him.
Fear that Xunfeng will never forgive him. Fear that the Moon Kingdom will demand his exile, or worse.
Fear that this is all a dream, and he will never return.
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
And yet, the days pass. He feels... stronger. Somehow. The fog grows thinner by the year. Her voice grows clearer, stronger. She tells him about the flowers. She tells him about the kingdom and its people. Xunfeng may be in love, she says. Shangque has a child now. Shuiyuntian has agreed to the peace treaty. The Moon Kingdom is united and thriving.
All without him. Maybe he shouldn't come back?
Despair threatens, but Dongfang Qingcang fights it. He wants to see—see her, see them all, and he tries as best he can to open his eyes. The world is just sound now, and he can sense the chirping of birds and the soft shuffle of feet, he swears he can even hear the breeze and the flowers growing, he can hear the sun rise and the moon shift in the sky. But he can't see anything.
Maybe she won't want him. Maybe none of them will. But he needs to try.
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
“Da Matou?” she says one day. “I think... I think you should come back now.”
If he had tears he would cry. Can she hear him whisper back, I'm trying, I'm trying?
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
He cycles through his emotions, but he always ends on guilt.
One day it is bright, too bright. It burns like the sun and Dongfang Qingcang is crying. The last time he wept was for Xiao Lanhua, but this time is for him and him alone.
Something is happening. He is disappearing.
He will be gone soon, so he cries out for her. Will she ever forgive him for leaving?
He blinks awake. The sun is up. The scent of flowers fills his senses.
He sees Xiao Lanhua and walks slowly towards her. Will she accept him? Curse him? All he can do is smile. The guilt remains like a hot knife in his side.

WIP Wednesday
Trying to work on my new fic so I thought I'd share another little bit:
Xiao Lanhua makes her way to him, and he steps aside as he points to one particular lock. It is large with an intricate pattern decorating it. Sure enough, on the surface is her name, etched in Dongfang Qingcang’s bold script.
Xiao Lanhua!
Tears rise in her eyes. Her own Moon and Mountain Festival had been anything but happy. She recalls waiting on the bridge, dread growing in her chest as she refused to believe he would abandon her. He had promised, after all. Then seeing Dongfang Qingcang arrive, slowly walking towards her, and the kiss they had shared had melted away all doubt of how he felt about her. It had been that moment she knew for sure that he loved her, and she loved him, and she would never, ever let him go.
She rubs her thumb along her name. “Daqiang,” she sighs quietly.
“Xiao Lanhua…”
Her name catches her attention, and she looks up. To her surprise, Dongfang Qingcang is here, standing a few feet away and staring out over the mountain. “Da Matou!” she says excitedly. “I didn’t know you were coming!”
“Xiao Lanhua, why? Why did you do this?”

I have a new LBFAD fic I've been working on, and as it's coming along fairly well I figured it was time to share a bit! It doesn't have a title yet, but please look for it this spring!
════════════════════════════════════ ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ .
Pain. Every part of her is rife with it: limbs cold as ice, head screaming, breath as sharp as the blade now buried in her chest. Tears start to fall as her body desperately tries to breathe on its own.
Then, a voice on the wind: Xiao Lanhua! It takes all she has to turn, the muscles and nerves in her body protesting as she looks to find Dongfang Qingcang scrambling across the desert to get to her.
Selfishly, Xiao Lanhua is glad. She had resolved to die alone, yet here he is, gathering her into his arms as her body begins to fail.
“Da Matou,” she murmurs, the words scraping against her throat.
His tears fall on her arms as she reaches up towards him. This is enough, she tells herself. The soldiers are free, the war has ended. He can live in peace and lead his people. All their goals are met, except one.
There is one last thing she wants before she goes. With the last of her strength, Xiao Lanhua presses her fingers to his lips. Live on, she wants to say. Make this worth it. Make our love worth it all. But her consciousness is fading so all she can manage is, “Smile.”
The pain fades as she slides into sleep, her soul turning to dust.
Then Xiao Lanhua wakes up.
It is dark, but the moon shines through the window that bathes the room in cool light. Xiao Lanhua blinks a few times as her eyesight adjusts, her body sensitive and tingling. Where is she? Is this the afterlife?
Slowly she sits up to see she is wearing a thin nightgown. The air is warm, like summer, which makes little sense as the Moon Festival happens in autumn. It had been turning slowly colder as the days marched towards winter. Why is it so warm?
Something shifts next to her and Xiao Lanhua freezes. When she screws up her courage to look over, there is a figure sleeping in the bed, and at once she is up, scrambling away. Her ankle tangles in the bedsheets and she goes crashing to the ground, bumping into a table and knocking over the items on top which clatter on the floor.
“Xiao Lanhua?”

Fandom: 苍兰诀 | Love Between Fairy and Devil (TV) Rating: Explicit Relationships: Changheng/Xunfeng
This is the way of their relationship, if it could even be called that: Xunfeng visits him, usually in Lucheng, and they share a drink or two and pretend to be friends. Then they end up in his bed, and any night like tonight will have clothes strewn around the floor and both of them sweating and exhausted and satisfied. There is a shame to it, but not the kind of shame for the act: but that it’s Changheng, once his mortal enemy, and now his… something.
