My opinion is that Charles tends to defend Max to the press because he knows that he himself is just a competitive car/tight championship battle away from being on the receiving end of the same criticism.
He doesn't keep repeating 'I would have done the same in his situation' for nothing. It's fair warning as far as I am concerned.

It's not that Max initially helped Charles advance on Lando during the race – because obviously it was for his own gain rather than Charles'. Charles stealing valuable championship points from Lando helps Max stick closer to the lead.
It's the trust. It's knowing your on-track competitor can be roped into your little games because they are capable, and are capable of helping you out. They were like stay out in case a potential red flag helps his race, or hold Lando back long enough to give Charles a chance to overtake and take the lead on a track where it is impossible to pass others. But this is Charles, he might just find a way to exceed the impossible.
It's knowing your fellow competitor can be used for your own gain because he is capable. There is just something about these on-track games that are so beautiful, regardless of the end results.
#they keep reminding me why i am so drawn to their duo#they just know they are the best#and that they can use the other for their own gain exactly because they are that good#lestappen#monaco gp 2025#charles leclerc#max verstappen#<-#Max really believed that Charles could overtake IN MONACO?!#that’s how high he rates him

if I was a team principal and forgot that monaco required two pit stops this year, you wouldn’t be able to waterboard that information out of me

Does anyone else have the feeling we're experiencing the downfall of F1 as we speak? Not just the sport but like everything around it as well? Insane fan behaviour, the wag culture, the lifestyle... It's all becoming so disconnected from the real world?
I don't know whether it's a downfall per se, but I do think it's reflective of what's going on in the world otherwise.
As another anon said the other day, f1 isn't the fun escapism anymore, and the lifestyle and excess and waste of it all is actually off-putting. I also think the conservative and restrictive development of f1 makes sense looking at the world otherwise. I haven't followed f1 for years or decades, so I don't know what it's been like before, but at least in the world, we see a turn towards conservatism after this very liberal wave.
I do think the sport is at danger of losing fans that are actually in it for the sport. It's becoming a spectacle more than a sport, and Miami has highlighted all of the bad things about it. I wonder whether the European races might reel that back in a little, but there's little hope, if I'm being honest. In their pursuit of new and young fans, the sport didn't care how they're going to get the fans, and for what reason.
And once the traditional fans that understand both the sport and sports in general leave, you're going to be left with the awful, awful people anons have experienced, and / or these children on twitter. Races continue to become less and less accessible to people, and instead we get influencers and celebrities attending races. It's so frustrating.
It's always really difficult to predict these things, but my gut feeling is that we're experiencing this hype and peak and almost bubble of it all that's inevitably going to burst or change down the line. It's simply not sustainable. Not this year, or next year, but I simply don't believe that the sport can keep up doing what it does now over a long period of time.
#this#miami was a big shit show if you ask me#and the fact that tracks like that get extended and Spa not tells me everything I need to know about the future of F1#the drivers are not allowed to have any personality#and every aspect of their lives should be an opportunity to sell#the whole wag concept being the biggest example#those are not relationships but partnerships#and it makes it all so unauthentic#I wonder how much longer they can survive like this#formula 1#f1

all jokes aside, very sad to see where f1 is headed when you have a driver refusing to express his thoughts about what happened because you can not criticize The Dictator and His Flying Circus
