Skins / Template Installation & Help

Hello Hello!!! Recently I’ve helped some non-coding peeps set up skins they may have purchased elsewhere, and as such I’ve decided to fully open up this service for all those who may need it!

Below is a list of all installation help I provide. Skin Installations vary from 30 mins to 3 hours, depending on how much is done / how much you’d need set up.

Honeybee + SaturnIcons fonts. If you’re using any of these fonts, you have to update the installation code with the new one. Go to the font’s page to get the new one and replace the old one the same way you did when you first installed the font. If you’re a theme maker, please make sure to update your codes if you’re using any of my fonts.

Released themes. If you have purchased my themes: I’ve sent you an updated version of the theme you bought from me - please check the inbox of the email address you used to make the purchase. If you haven’t purchased my themes: get the updated code from my portfolio.

How long you’ve been coding: a few years, or something like that Coding style: i like functionality. i guess that’s the best way to sum that up. i like things to make sense, be legible, and to not be there for the sake of being there. Favourite design elements: poppins has become one of my favorite fonts. What you’re aiming to get out of the Skinathon: a better focus on coding in general. what looks good, what functions good, and how i can translate that into my other coding. WELCOME TO THE JCINK SKINATHON!

This is an introductory post, explaining what the Skinathon is and how to participate. The Skinathon itself will not start until September 1, 2019, but all participants are welcome to practice beforehand. 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Dead easy. Follow this blog and start posting in the Jcink Skinathon tag with your skin elements on the first week. 

We’ll also have an intro post set up for participants who’d like to introduce themselves to one another!

If you like, you can join the Jcink Skinathon discord server (link to be posted later on), for chatting, feedback, and constructive criticism.

DATES:

The Skinathon will start on September 1 and last for eight weeks, until October 27.

RULES:

Post your skin elements in the Jcink Skinathon tag on a weekly basis, following the schedule outline(s) below.

Please do not start your Jcink Skinathon skin early! 

It’s absolutely fine if you miss making a creation in a particular week; just catch up the next week! This is meant to be a fun challenge.

It’s also fine to edit any previous week’s skin elements as you go along. Skinning is a constant creative process. 

No ripping, obviously.

SCHEDULE(S)

Obviously, everyone codes in a different manner and at a different pace. There’s no fixed order to the way you need to create these. However, each of these skin elements should be created one week at a time. 

So, for example, if you skin your forum rows and topic rows first, then stats row, then post rows, that’s absolutely fine. Someone else might start with the header/sidebar, then miniprofile, then profile row. “Miscellanea” details fixing up all the other tidbits of the skin (the UCP, for example), along with templates.

Header and sidebar — 1 week

Forum row and topic row — 1 week

Post row – 1 week

Mini profile — 1 week

Profile row — 1 week

Stats row – 1 week

Member list — 1 week

Miscellanea (that dreaded .row4 shit, skin bugs, etc) and templates (1 thread, 1 comm, 1 you choose!) — 1 week

uses jcink’s html templates for boards, stats, topics, posts, mini, and main profile. there are no custom memberlist templates as this was done before those existed.

colors can be customized for usergroups in the main profile, the mini profile, and the post row.

top table includes staff, welcome message (or updates if you want), staff with modal popups, registration message, and links. there is no sidebar and the chatbox can be put into the stats.

this utilizes a code for the last poster’s avatar to appear on the main forum and topic views. you must add a field for your 250x450 avatar and allow people to upload a 150x150 avatar only. i can explain it further to whomever purchases.

once yours you are free to use any pieces of this skin on other skins, as long as the other coder is alright with it. as well, you’re welcome to resell this skin if you no longer have a use for it.

as always, troubleshooting is always offered, and if you’re interested please send me a message here! i’m willing to help with graphics.
