i was outside w/ my cat just now. and he went behind a shrub for a bit, and me not realizing my neighbor was on the other side of that same shrub, poked my head round and said way louder than necessary, “my SCRUMPTIOUS darling boy, what ever are you doing over there??”

and this 40-something man i very rarely speak to handled it w/ remarkable grace and very tentatively responded “…..watering my.. roses? you?”

The weirdest guy I ever met in a church was this boy who referred to “Buzz Aldrin and his husband” going to the moon. I was completely baffled, and when I asked if he’d misspoken, he got really angry and accused me of being deliberately ignorant of the facts. It turned out that he was somehow comvinced that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were married. It took five Wikipedia articles to convince him otherwise.

I'm watching the 14 July parade in Paris, and it's amazing. We French really know how to put on a show. I can see why Felon47 wanted something like this, and I am delighted by how miserably he failed.

Listen. LISTEN. One can say many, many things about the French, but I have always greatly respected them for a) the inability to give a shit, b) the willingness to go on an annual strike if that's what it takes to get the point across that they will only goddamn work if they only goddamn feel like it, and c) the time they not only stormed the Bastille and overthrew their absolute-tyrant king, complete with head-chopping, but made it into a national holiday to REMIND EVERYONE THEY COULD STILL DO IT AGAIN IF THEY FELT LIKE IT. In that regard, it does not surprise me that they know how to put on a good show to commemorate the occasion.

Likewise, there are many, many things that you can say about America, all of which are true, because this is a terrible garbage country. However, plenty of people were worried that Trump's Big Dick Swing Military Parade was going to be genuinely frightening, a sign of his militarized fascist control, or otherwise an actually successful projection of the shock-and-awe domination that fascists always want. Instead. Instead what we got was maybe 300 people diligently and in dead silence watching some random tanks squeak by (it was literally so quiet you could hear the treads) while Trump sat with the biggest pissy orange baby face you can imagine. Meanwhile on that same day, multi-millions of Americans turned out across the country in the No Kings protests, which are among the biggest mass political mobilizations in American history.

So basically, as usual, Everything Trump Touches Dies, and he's not gonna try it again in a hurry, because he doesn't want the repeat humiliation. I assume the French doing it so successfully is just another salt in the wound. So Vive la France, cue La Marseillaise, so forth and etcetera.
