Back when the first real trailer for BotW came out, some people were speculating that Link was a girl because of his long hair. I am very happy that he's not because I really don't like changing Link's gender over us just getting to play Zelda. I also don't like the idea some people float around about having us pick a gender for Link because, sure, it sounds nice on paper, but then characters who are custom are usually very flat because they're supposed to be open to interpretation.

BotW Link already turned out very flat despite this being the first mainline title with voice acting. I want Link to be his own character, not a self insert, and in past games like SS, he did have a very distinct character. BotW Link is very rigid which makes the cutscenes falter because everyone has to monologue around him. And yeah, let Link talk. That was the best part of SS where you get to engage in the dialogue but BotW and TotK stripped that away and just have him stand around and look at people in every single cutscene. At least the BotW memories had an excuse, I don't know why he's still so blank in TotK. Let him smile or something—and no, that sort of, kind of smile you have to mod the camera around to see at the end of TotK doesn't count because you can't see it in the game normally and it's barely an expression.

If there's one thing the movie might make right is getting people to actually accept a Link who talks.

—Heart of the Cave—

Quick break from the usual Zelda content to draw the new Avatar; she looks so cute!

I wanted to draw her hanging out with Toph. I was imagining a scene along the lines of a skill challenge, with Toph tasking Pavi(?) with finding a single crystal deep within the earth of a cave, and then extract it without crushing it.

Wish they could meet in canon… but chances are that Toph and all the AtLA cast are long dead by the events of Avatar: Seven Havens 🥲

Anyways, ATLA was the first TV show I ever watched to its completion, and I still regard it highly to this day. Despite my ambivalence towards LoK, I’m adding Avatar: Seven Havens to the list of new media I’m tentatively hopeful for!
