Six of these books were required reading at my high school. How times have changed.

God forbid we ask our children to confront uncomfortable truths about being a human and about the history of our country. And God forbid we have to confront our own feelings about it, good AND bad.

The dumbing down of America comes quietly and refuses to let us have civil discourse about anything that makes us question what we’ve been taught.

An emphasis on CIVIL discourse. Not keyboard warriors who wouldn’t say that shit to your face out of respect for “politeness”. Because it’s too hard to do that when there’s another face in front of you. No, it’s easier to spew hatred from the safe space within their homes….and refuse to consider that what you thought or told was true might not be the case.

This is the world we live in now. And it hurts my soul. If so many of these people that consider themselves Christians would ACTUALLY consider and THOUGHTFULLY ask “what would Jesus do?”, I don’t think they’d like the answer so much.
