Clearing up some confusion that I’ve been seeing. The wand that Ame took doesn’t make you a witch, it makes you a part of the Coven of Elders. It’s called the Wand of Covenant. All a witch needs is a connection with the spirits and a familiar, and Nif had a spirit willing to guide her to her familiar. It’s like Brennan says. What Mr. Soup did for Ame in leading her to the Fox, Eursulon did that with Nif and leading her to her elk.

Jfc the Steel and Suvi conversation…the way Steel genuinely (believes that she) loves Suvi…the way she would do anything to keep Suvi as her shining star of future hope and potential…Suvi isn’t a person, just a vessel of the Citadel and Steel’s belief. The way Suvi would rather have killed herself than let her down and Steel has essentially ended other people’s lives to keep her dream of Suvi going.

It’s a world of dreams, and the mortals are fighting for the power to make them real.

Two of the old guard, putting their morals aside for the pursuit of a better world. It seems like Eioghorain maintains a sense of realism; he doesn’t try to pretend like anyone benefits from the war. On the other hand, Steel has discarded everything in pursuit of her grand plan (perhaps out of some paternalistic delusion that she knows best for everyone).

After Steel’s monologuing at the end of Ep. 49, I have never felt more certain that the Man in Black was right about the Citadel. They “unmade” a Great Spirit, and left nothing behind. If they believe they can invade the World of Spirits and colonize them too, they are in for a rude awakening when the “real world” stuff represented by those spirits they destroy in the course of their conquest just ceases to exist. Eioghorain is right, and the state of Twelve Brooks is proof. Umora is the dream. The Spirit World is where all the real shit is. You unmake the Great Bullfrog, and you unmake the rivers and music for the entire region. The Citadel is a sword plunged into the Heart of the World. This is true apocalyptic shit. One imperial power sees the possibility for their own prosperity and supremacy, failing to recognize or care that it will be at the expense of the literal forces of nature and life of the world.

I work retail, and have for many years now. I'm not an easily fazed person and have a Talk No Shit, Take No Shit mentality. However, I also have a pretty intense anxiety disorder on top of other mental health issues and when I started 6+ years ago there were some customers who got to me.

So, to all the workers facing Karens and Kens out in the wild, here's my advice - cry.

If you have the type of relationships with your coworkers and managers that will support you, don't try to hold it in. Cry like the overworked, underpaid peon you are.

Nothing terrifies an asshole Karen like the indisputable proof that their actions/words are affecting you as a real live person. They feel perfectly entitled to cuss out a cashier over a wrong order/no cash policy/ face mask mandate but when that person starts to cry and asks them why they'd say such mean things? A whole other story, my friend.

There's no way to make that situation look good to the manager they demanded to speak with, either. My manager literally got a security guard fired for being so verbally abusive he made one of her employees cry.

This strategy has multiple benefits -

1. You're not standing there trying to pen up your emotions, crying is a great physical release for negative emotions and you may very well feel somewhat better afterwards.

2. The person who precipitated the situation is forced to not only see you as a person with feelings, but also has to confront the fact that their abuse has consequences beyond themselves.

3. It can actually give your higher-ups leverage to address these situations. 'They yelled at my employee' is one thing, but 'They yelled at my employee until they were in tears' is a waaaaay worse offense. A good manager can use that. Hell, it can get a security guard fired!

tl;dr: We live in a capitalist hell but we can work the system and cry at work to shame awful customers

I am so conflicted between desperately wanting to watch the PBS Great Performances of Next to Normal with Jack Wolfe from Shadow and Bone as Gabe, and knowing that it will devastate me, and wondering if I am mentally stable enough for that kind of emotional damage.
