I hate how true this is for so many people.

the thing that sucks is that people love saying sleep early is good etc etc and yeah it is. I've seen some benefits before. but I think it sucks to ignore that late night is the only time with any freedom. I think it sucks to not acknowledge the dread in waking up and it's a work day again

no but genuinely I lose a little more patience for people who won't wear wool, leather, silk, or fur every day that I live in a world where plastic is increasingly the only damn kind of clothing you can find (or the only kind of fabric for sewing, even)

obviously, animal cruelty is horrible. I believe that even industries that rely on the deaths of animals should make their lives as good and their ends as humane as possible. and many of these industries need tighter environmental regulations on their production practices- some of the chemicals involved are highly toxic and ill-controlled at times

but at some point, you have to wake up to the fact that the only alternative we've found to date is destroying our planet

it's all plastic. and plastic is horrible for the world- the environment, humans, and especially animals. how cruelty-free is it to cause mass habitat loss? or climate change that disrupts food sources for those animals on a vast scale? how is that better than the deaths of a relatively small proportion of animals comparatively?

(and don't even start with "but pineapple leather! but cactus leather!" when those are still basically plastic due to heavy plastics use in their production processes. there is currently no non-plastic alternative to most animal-based textile products)

I've always tried to keep in mind that we all have to decide where our line is, that we all consume and there's no way of living in this world that doesn't take something from it. that for me, plastic clothing is to be avoided as much as possible, and for others, animal clothing products are to be avoided as much as possible. that the choice is equally valid

but I'm having a hard time seeing it as valid anymore when it just feels like trying to push the unpleasant part away from yourself so you can pretend your choice has no negative impacts. you're not wearing animal skin (or wool that an animal didn't even die to produce), so surely your way of doing things is better! no animals were harmed in the making of your outfit!

This is why I closed my ask box, and I may never reopen it. Fuck. People can do anything with their time, and this kind of shit is what they choose. They’re using genuine suffering as a cover to make money. It’s repulsive.

How long do we think it's gonna be till James Somerton turns right-wing grifter? The people he stole from will likely never see a single cent, but his career is fucked. Within a month, all he'll be left with is name recognition and the fact that a ton of leftists hate him. He could just take the money and run, but given what he was willing to do to get this far, I get the feeling he'd rather not lose his fame.

Let's look at Rowling for a moment. She had all the money she could ever hope to get from her books. She could have simply taken the money and settled down, but she didn't want to. She wanted relevance. Before she started hanging out with fascists though, she tried to become a celebrity of her idea of the left.

Remember those couple of years where she was constantly announcing random characters were gay? The obvious pandering to the left? The "at least one Jewish student at hogwarts"? The weirdly graphic description she gave of Dumbledore's gay sex life despite never even hinting at it in the books? Making Hermione black despite specifically writing her as white?

What I'm saying is, she tried to pander to the left and it failed because everyone could see it was pandering. So what did she do? She started pandering to the right. The right is fine with pandering as long as they're the ones being appealed to. And look at her now, we can't go a week without hearing about some fucked up thing she did, and the right loves her for it.

All of this is to say that Somerton is gonna have a realization that he's been grifting the wrong audience. His one honest trait is his hatred of women and that'll work perfectly for appealing to incels. Just watch as he spins this as the left turning on him and pushing him to the right. He's gonna join the Blair White school of being "one of the good ones"

I need jeans that will last more than a couple months. Do any of my curvier ladies have recommendations for good, sturdy brands? Lately I've been wearing out the corners on the butt pockets (which I don't even use??), the belt loop anchor points, and of course the inner thighs.

I think it might be that they've all had some stretch? So maybe I just need the search terms to eliminate stretch?

my family literally turned off It's A Wonderful Life on NBC this Christmas Eve without finishing it, for the first time ever

because it was approximately 10-15 minutes of movie followed by an ad break that felt almost as long. over and over and over. it would have been midnight before the damn thing ended. we watched from 7 to 9 and didn't even get to the end of WWII

it's the same with Roku. I live in a house that has one now, where we all add our streaming services for everyone to use, and it's mostly great for putting things on while I sit on the couch and sew. but transitioning to that from, mostly, pirating things on my computer or using Netflix back when it was ad-free is insane

(also the ads are really stupid. I saw a car commercial implying that Santa should get an SUV so he doesn't have to "drive a sleigh in the snow." that's...that's what sleighs are for, my good bitch. do the ad execs need to go back to their small hometowns and have a tryst with a tree lot owner who might be Santa's son, to re-learn these things?)

(they also put an ad for a Christian dating site on The Handmaid's Tale. which is rising to new heights of tone-deafness)

I've managed to live a fairly ad-minimal life, for this day and age, and being suddenly thrust into the middle of Peak 2024 Ad Saturation is wild
