And here comes the key to surviving beauty school.. a beautiful best friend. Friendships, relationships, having a support system at school and/or at home is a key component in getting through cosmetology school. And that person for me, was Morgan. I didn’t know Morgan until being in school about 12 weeks. I had just phased out of stage 1 and I didn’t have a lot of friends. Morgan and I stood next to each other while wrapping perm rods one day, we started talking.. I guess we hit it off because next thing I knew we were inseparable! She’s always claiming that she’s been holding my coat tail through school. And in some aspects that may have been true, but there have definitely been times where I’ve done just the same with her. First real updo on a client! Remember those knots on the manikin head? Alive and well here on my beautiful client. She had asked for a updo. She wanted something fun, retro, almost an 80’s vibe, but elevated at the same time. We left spacing at the front hairline and the nape to be able to place and tie a bandanna in her hair and not block the pin curl. What a life lesson lol as you probably can remember I was blonde before and had a 1N on my regrowth to almost halfway down my mid-shaft. Layered cut & flat iron. I was pretty proud of the end result. At this point I had an epiphany and suddenly understood where my guide was and how to find it if I lost it. Hallelujah!! It was like finally understanding how proofs worked in geometry! My teacher would day, “section into 4, take a mohawk sectioning ear to ear, and then take 1/4-1/2 inch horizontal back subsections, keeping the comb parallel to each subsection” 😶😐..... say what? So here comes the behind the scenes of my days. So first off, I am bipolar and attempt to overcome social anxiety on the daily. So sometimes interacting with people can be a struggle. However you have to mask that in any form of customer service job, so my days are extra mentally draining... this here is my first breaking point. I posted this along with a poem about what my morning was like if I overslept. usually waking up about a few minutes before I needed to be at school and in sheer panic. To the point of an anxiety attack, full on bipolar episode, and then end it all sobbing while being very late to school. Unfortunately when you work and go to school you get very little choice in what time you go to bed. So maintaining a balanced and healthy sleep schedule is nearly impossible. Okay so this, this is the very first picture I had ever taken of Morgan Manuel, a critical person in this past years journey.. and she’s probably going to murder me for posting it. But she’s so beautiful even when she’s sleeping that it’s okay! Lol she looks like a runway model. But you see, everyone I had started with at school had dropped from the program or dropped me as a friend. So I was kinda a loaner but I was cool with it because I liked just doing me.
