As soon as I became an RA, I always said that my last bulletin board would be Doctor Who themed.

I PRESENT TO YOU MY NOVEMBER BULLETIN BOARD. 12 HAND DRAWN LUMPY SPACE PRINCESSES.
Plus a few extra LSP’s on the wall because I got a little over-zealous.

So it’s been a very long/short summer. In the past three weeks I’ve created 24 pokemon door decorations for my floor. I’m excited to start training this Sunday, and I hope my residents love these.

When you’re an RA who is a crazy fangirl and likes to spend way too much time on bulletin boards…

How I make tape rolls for flyers and door decs. I have a few people ask how I do it, but I can’t really explain so I made a video. It’s pretty boring, but if you want to see how to I do it, maybe this might help.
All this time in reslife during undergrad and grad school, this this is the skill that I have to show for it.

Hi! So I'm moving back on campus to start training in a week. And in 2 weeks my residents move onto campus. This is my first time being an RA and I'm getting super anxious and nervous. I feel like I have no idea what to do or expect, and I feel like everything is going to fall apart once I get there. Any advice or anything to help put my mind at ease?
So I think the first thing is to remember that you’re human, and (hopefully) your department understands that. Take time for yourself. Make sure to get plenty of rest - it may seem like a great idea to stay up talking to all your new RA friends during training, but resist. Eat as healthily as you can. If you’re someone who feels better after they work out, go to the gym.
During training you’re probably going to hear horror stories - it’s so rare that those things happen, just remember it’s an “in case this does” kind of thing. If you’re worried, ask your RD/CD or returner RAs, they will give you the real lowdown.
The other thing is that your residents are just people too. They have the same struggles you do, and your department saw potential in you to help them with those struggles. Remember that everyone makes mistakes, but we can all learn from them too, so do your best to be empathetic. You also have a constant support system in your staff and in your department, so take advantage of that. They’ll be there to help you if you falter.
Overall, stay hydrated, take deep breaths and do your best to enjoy the ride!

Bulletin Board Tip Cloth works great for the background of bulletin boards. Holes created by staples and thumbtacks are less visible should you want to reuse the background. It’s a little challenging to put up but worth the time avoiding posting new background paper each time.
