This work is based on a real midsummer bonfire (fin. "kokko") I saw this year. Obviously it wasn't that large, the fire was kinda small, but it's the thought that counts

It had been ages since the last bonfires were lit here in the south due to the risk of a wildfire erupting. This year there were no warnings, so it was super nice to finally get to see one in forever it feels like!

Goodness I have so much weird lore I wanna share uhhggh... I can't just share one short one, I must let the demons out NOW

So, apparently I really liked to draw as a baby. I was already scribbling onto paper before I could even speak or sit upright for more than a few minutes. I must've only been like half-a-year old at the time. We probably still have the drawings somwhere

Originally I was put into a Swedish kindergarten (all my older half-siblings went to Swedish speaking schools), but after a while I was switched to a Finnish kindergarten instead. This was because my Swedish speaking skills sucked, and I also became friends with the only other Finnish speaking kid there. The caretakers didn't like it lmao

I used to eat weird things (when I was about 7-11 years old), such as grass and pieces of paper, but my favorite was the wax that came with those round Babybel cheeses. Probably not my smartest decision, but I haven't suffered any consequences so I guess I'm good. There was also a tree at our school yard that tasted like watermelon

I have sometimes thought about how fun it would be if people could see my face. I'm quite an expressive person and I think it would add a lot to my "online character". Ironically enough, the only problem is that my privacy-obsessed ape brain doesn't like the idea of random strangers knowing what I look like. Thanks dad

It's been a while since I updated you on my "stamp project". If you haven't noticed, I recently renamed the folder to "Raasturi's web trinkets" and added new categories: buttons and mini flags! (They were primarily made for my website. That's why they might seem random) (btw I'd recommend checking out my website if you haven't already. I've made some HUGE improvements to it since last time!)

↑ This one is my favorite. It took several hours to make. Yummers! I added a lot of easter eggs. See if you can spot them trough the pixelated mush

Rainbow Quest art? From me!? It's more likely than you think

A sudden surge of inspiration came over me today. I've wanted to draw RQ art for so long, but I never had the motivation to until now

Since I've already drawn Galaxy Steve so many times, I wanted to draw someone else. I picked the First Curse since I really love his canon design!

Speaking of RQ characters, I finally decided on what my versions of the characters/species look like. No more redesigns, thank goodness!

I had already designed full ref sheets of all the different races and all back in 2022 (I posted them on Pinterest), so I just used them as reference and made a few minor changes

I believe they were also a part of my Feral AU? It's been such a long time that I've managed to forget everything related to it ToT. But maybe I should bring it back with a fresh coat of paint! We'll see

Also sorry I haven't posted in a while. I became severely addicted to building my website (https://raasturi.neocities.org/) and, on top of that, exam week has had a tight grip on me for the past two weeks (exam week? More like "exam TWO weeks, and it's driving me insane"), so I guess you could say I've been a bit busy

If you're wondering about how my matriculation exams went, I survived surprisingly well. I guess YTL was in a happy mood this spring

Anyway, back on topic!

If you're still confused, that is how I used to draw (/talk) back in 2017-2018, aka when I was about 10-11. It was a fun idea I thought of when thinking of making something special for April Fools

Here's a collage I put together of a few old drawings if you're interested in seeing actual art from that time period:

As you can see, there aren't many humans here. I mostly drew animals, anthros and Fnaf characters. I only really started drawing humans when... my Country Humans phase began... and my art style changed quite a lot, which meant I had to get creative with some of my choices when drawing my two favorite blorbos. My goal wasn't necessarily to be accurate, but to capture the essence of my old style

(btw, if you're interested in seeing more of these old drawings, I'm planning on making a gallery on my website where I'll be showcasing many of my older and newer artworks. I'll inform you when I do that)

I think Peri looks quite cute in my old style, but my God does Dale look odd. He looks like he came straight out of an animation meme (which isn't far from the truth). Bro is NOT a dilf

Fun fact. I almost gave Dale his boots, but had I done that I probably couldn't have posted this purely because of the anguish it would've caused me. So no boots this time, plus wearing shoes indoors is kinda yucky anyway

Sometimes I stop to wonder, am I cutiefying Dale too much? But then I remember he canonically spoke with an "uwu voice" plus he's kinda cunty anyway. I'm not the delusional one, you guys are just making him too tough and serious

I think the old style is very endearing. It reminds me of a time when I wasn't so stressed and busy all the time. *places a hand on a mirror and looks up like in that one werewolf image* I want to go back to those times... I miss you, the 2010s </3

I WISH I could participate in the FairlyOddSpring art challenge, but I literally have my biology and math matriculation exams* NEXT WEEK and I also have bunch of other school work I must finish. I can't just dilly-dally anymore <//3

So, naturally, I started working on a website

It looks like ass right now since I know next to nothing about HTML or CSS or any other coding language, but maybe one day It'll look good! Idk why the images are so stretched on mobile, I'll have to fix that at some point

I know I COULD just create a strawpage or something, but I want to learn the mysterious craft of website building. It's kinda fun! And who knows, maybe it could come in handy in the future

*in the Finnish education system, those attending Upper Secondary School (and in their 3rd or 4th year) must pass at least five matriculation exams in order to graduate (there's a matriculation exam for every school subject except art, music, P.E. etc.) (We don't have to do all five of them at the same time)

I'm so excited y'all. I've finally figured out how the whole PeriDale relationship situation would develop!

So basically, they go from casual friends to friends with benefits into being in a situationship to then finally, when they're done living in denial (and after some story-related debacles), they will officially get together. It will be the most syrupy sweet slow burn mush you've ever witnessed in this fandom /nsrs. They will be totally adorbs, so kawaii if you will. Trust me

And don't think I forgot about Dev. He will be essential in Dale's redemption arc and the rest of the story, too

Most probably thought the idiot was irredeemable, but I knew I could fix him! Dev will have such a good pair of loving fathers after this. GRRR just look at the two participating in eepy time

(I've been trying to learn to draw more loosely. Expect to see more of these kinds of sketches)

Some small updates to the AU:

Dale is autistic. The idea came to me by accident, as usual, but in my defense he was a bit interesting in the series to begin with

The characters' heights have been slightly altered. Peri will stay at 162 cm (5.31 ft) and his parents will be about the same height, but Dale will now be a whopping 188 cm (6.18 ft) (and with his boots on he would be just over 190 cm (6.24 ft)). Dev will be about 142 cm (4.66 ft)

I became an architect and started working on Dale's new home (I was NOT gonna let him live in the headquarters of his own company). He will now own a luxurious two-story apartment at the top of the tallest residential skyscraper in Dimmadelphia. I'll show the blueprints once they're finished

If you're wondering, every single piece of lore and story is currently stored in my little noggin (and partially on the 12 300-word and 45-page-long docs), but I can't wait to finally start properly sharing everything once I'm finished with most of the behind the scenes stuff!

So, I accidentally went down an unexpected rabbit hole when I was adding a new character to my story (I will explain everything in more detail further down in the post). Long story short, I ended up creating a seal and a flag for the city of Dimmadelphia, and a logo for its department of parks and recreation

If somebody wants to use these, go ahead! Just remember to credit me. Do note however that the seal (and in extention the flag) is connected to my AU, so if you want to make it more canon-like, I'd recommend changing the wings and the star at the top for something else

If you're wondering how I made the images look so clean, I just used IbisPaint X (I used the digital pen, the bézier curve drawing tool and a ruler + lots of time and patience) (canvas size: 2000×2000px) and an app called Phonto for the curved text (font: homestead-regular). Graphic design is my passion

NOTE! The reason I believe Dimmadelphia is located in Indiana is that in the episode "Potazel Potahzel" we see that the city is located somewhere south of Lake Michigan. Also Dimmadelphia was originally named Dimmsopolis (source), which could be a reference to Indianapolis, which is, you guessed it! The capital of Indiana

NOTE 2! If you're wondering what a "department of parks and recreation" is, it's a city controlled department managing its parks (not state parks or national parks) and other public spaces

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

It all started when I was coming up with a career for a character that I will not be naming (yet). They were giving off biologist vibes, and I originally made them a marine biologist, but then I realised it would be much better if they were an urban park ranger. That way they could organically enter the story, since Dimmadelphia City Park is used quite often throughout the series

I started off by looking at other park ranger uniforms (mostly NYC Urban Park Ranger and state park ranger uniforms). They all had a logo on the sleeves and a badge on the right side of their shirt (their left), and since I'm a sucker for detail and accuracy, I wanted to incorporate those into the uniform. And so I began by designing a logo

I would like to mention that it was never clearly stated on any website that there was a difference between city parks and state parks, and that city parks are under the city's jurisdiction, and state parks under the state's jurisdiction (national parks are under the jurisdiction of the U.S. government). Looking back at it, it was quite obvious, but at the time I wasn't aware of this

This confusion led me to accidentally create a logo for Indiana's (fictional) department in control of state parks: "Indiana State Parks"

I know the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is actually the one managing state parks, but I wasn't a fan of their logo, so that's why I created my own

I hadn't gotten so far as to finalize and clean up the design, but here were some color tests I did:

Design note: I chose the northern cardinal and the tulip tree leaf because they're both state symbols of Indiana

When I realised my mistake, I was disappointed that I had wasted all my time on a logo that I wouldn't even use. Thankfully, it didn't go entirely to waste, since I ended up reusing parts of it in the new logo

I'm telling you all this because this whole ordeal made me lose my sanity and most of my braincells (this wasn't the only challenge I had faced during this whole thing. There's a reason I called this a rabbit hole)

THE LOGO FOR DIMMADELPHIA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION

The (new) logo is in the shape of a shield (because it looks cool), and it includes a tulip tree leaf (taken from the original logo) and in front of it is the ten-gallon hat of Doug Dimmadome - in homage to the arguably most famous and recognisable person in the city, considering how many references to him there are in the show

In the universe of the AU, the leaf-hat symbol is also used as the logo of the department, and is thus used in other divisions. This is similar to how NYC Parks uses the maple leaf logo

THE SEAL OF DIMMADELPHIA

While working on the logo, I started looking into what types of badges park rangers wore. I read that NYC park rangers (I used them as reference a LOT) possess the peace officer status, and when comparing their badges to the New York City police badges, they often looked quite similar if not the same. This was great to know, since that gave me idea of what the uniform badges should be based on

I then started looking into city police badges, and oftentimes they had similar features: a somewhat oval shape, an eagle on top and the city's seal in the middle with some text surrounding it. This is NOT what all badges look like. They can actually be quite diverse visually, but this is the basis I would use for my badge

Now the only thing for me to do was to come up with a seal (and a design for the badge, but that got kinda sidelined. I'll probably have the design finished when I reveal the new character) (I'm hyping this up as some big reveal. They will literally not affect the overall story at all)

The final design includes a white, yellow and black color scheme, which was inspired by both other Indiana city seals (many of them have blue and/or yellow in them) and the Dimmadome family color scheme™. Probably the most notable part of the seal is the middle part, which includes four stars, a pair of anatomically incorrect wings (as often seen in seals) and a looping rope surrounding it

The three stars at the bottom are meant to represent the three founders, and the wings and the larger star at the top are together meant to create the appearance of an angel

I could go on and on about the overarching symbolism and metaphors of both this and the flag (the flag is based on the seal), but I think it's more fun when people can conjure their own thoughts

THE FLAG OF DIMMADELPHIA

The flag was the last thing I started working on. I originally wasn't going to include it, but then I said fuck it, and finished the design for this post anyway

The flag wasn't as hard to make as the previous logos. It mostly required me to look at other city flags and see if my flag would fit with them (considering how different (and honestly ugly) the flags can be, this wasn't too difficult) (I'm sorry, but why are so many of the U.S. flags and seals so unpleasent? Many eithet have unnatural compositions, too much text, hideous colors or they're littered with unnecessary details. And worst of all, there is no attempt at standardisation! AAAGGHRR)

As I said earlier, the flag is based on the seal, and the design I landed on includes the same color palette as that. It has stripes (kinda like beams of light) protruding from the black shape on the left, which kinda looks like the letter D. It was totally unintentional, but I loved that detail enough to choose that design out of the rest. The same four stars from the seal have been repurposed again, with each having the same symbolisms from before

MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS

I think now would be a good time to introduce you to what Dimmadelphia City Park looks like in my AU!

In the show it's kinda... not that interesting (at least from what we've been shown), so I thought that my version of it would be larger and denser with trees and other vegetation (maybe there could be like small forests or a pond). Both smaller and larger events would still be held there, and it would be viewed like as THE centre of Dimmadelphia (don't ask why I'm giving headcanons to a fictional park. Just bear with me now). The park would basically be like a mix between Central Park (New York) and Kaivopuisto (Helsinki), but with its own twist to make it unique

While designing the seals and all, an idea of what the identity of Dimmadelphia is, started to develop. I don't remember if it was ever directly said in the show (it's been a while since I last rewatched it), but it made me think if the city was perhaps a hotspot for paranormal activities, considering the Galax institute was built there (including other things). So that is what I incorporated into my AU, though I thought that in my version it would be more of an urban legend that there were weird things going on in there (probably influenced from the fact that there's an angel on their seal), and then the city would acknowledge it and kinda embracing it. Now, is it actually any different compared to other cities?

...who knows ;D

One more thing: I found out that Indiana is apparently a right-wing state. So umm, don't mind me changing it to a left-wing state in my AU (trust me, this is important. There are a lot of queer characters, I don't wanna scare them, and I wanna make Dimmadelphia a liberal city, since that's also the vibe I got from the show)

I think I just thought of a new future career idea! Becoming a park ranger at the Lemmenjoki National Park, building a secret hideout in the middle of it and living the rest of my days there. I would feed myself off of the wildlife and build everything by hand. I will be so deep in the crevices of the dense forest that nobody will ever find me or my base 😍 I would have so much free time... just enough that I could start working on those comics I've been wanting to make for ages

They thought they could change us

When Timmy had grown old enough for him to give up his guardian angels, the Court of the Angels deemed Cosmo and Wanda to be too corrupt of sin to be let back to the Holy Land. And so, they were banished to Eden (the Universe), where they would not be guided by the light of God anymore

They were made vulnerable to pain, they were stripped of their powers and their relatives were discouraged to ever talk to them, including their only child. This was their punishment

Though they were distraught by this, they learned to stand on their own and found new meaning to their lives. They studied the ways of the people and integrated themselves into their society

And then Hazel arrived

And yes, they went on a 10 000 year "vacation" trough time by accidentally stumbling upon a pocket dimension containing the entire timeline of the Universe while they were figuring out ways they could reaccess their powers

I'm so hyped right now. Gosh, I have not worked on a larger piece like this in FOREVER. Now that I've finally started finding my style, it's been much more fun drawing digitally

This did take over 9 hours to make, so I'll definitely need to find ways to speed up the drawing process

More about the designs for the two silly goobers!

I redid Wanda's sigil since I wasn't happy with the previous design. Here's a better look at both of their sigils:

Cosmo's sigil is such a pain to draw, but it's so worth it

You might have also noticed that they're missing their stars that I always draw on top of their heads. This was intentional. The stars act as batteries for the angels when they're roaming Eden (the stars get their energy from actual burning stars. This is all due to Eden being a closed system and no energy may exit or enter it. I'm picky about these kinds of things) so without them they can't get energy and can't access their powers

Also, Cosmo is supposed to have light green spots on his wings, but in the drawing they kinda look like funky lighting effects

I know I don't draw or talk about them often, but they are unironically my favorite straight couple <3 though their marriage in the original series was kinda bad. I'm so glad New Wish exists
