Sonic is better than Mario
Yeah, you heard me! You can blame me for blasphemy if you like, and you can send the spanish inquisition after me if you like, I will still stand my ground... even though I wont expect the spanish inquisition, no one ever does. Anyhow, lately I’ve been listening a lot to old video game music, and most of the music I haven’t heard since I was a kid. In my home we didn’t have Nintendo for some reason, we had Sega. So we obviously played Sonic instead of Super Mario. And I’m damn happy for that today. Cause when I listen to the music from these old games (Sonic 1 & Sonic 2) I’m amazed of the music. It’s really good! Much better than the Super Mario music. And I realize how much it has inspired me as a musician without me even knowing. When I listen to these old songs I can really hear my musical heritage. I have no idea how video gaming effects the brain musically. But I can clearly see how these old complex melodies have got stock in my brain and subconciously been there for all these years. I'm really glad I played video games as a kid, and I'm even more glad it turned out to be sonic. Go Sonic! Arty as you like but with a big tongue stuck in cheek. This has a hint of a novelty record about it and could be the best music for teenage rebels we've heard all year. It is simple, especially in the sloganeering vocals though there is a jaunty spring in the instrumental forays which give the tune a sense of joie-de-vivre

The Getaway
I must say, the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album The Getaway has really been a new romance for me (I’m a huuuuuge Chili Peppers fan if you didn’t know, I can talk for hours about them). The Californication album will always be their prime if you ask me. By the Way was ok but the Stadium Arcadium album was sadly a disappointment for me. And I’m With You had a few good songs like Factory of Faith, Monarchy of Roses and Look Around (thank you for playing Look Around in Stockholm btw), but it wasn’t really what I was hoping for either. But The Getaway somehow really had that real Chili Peppers feel to it that I’ve been longing for. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but it felt like they really found themselfs again. It felt more honest and down to earth somehow but still well thought through. Also raw at times as well as really dark without getting consumed by it. I have been listening to it a lot and I would say it’s the best album since Californication. And I was so glad that I got the chance to hear all my favorite songs from the album live in Stockholm. The album has really inspired me and this is one of those albums that will stay with me. Keep em comin’ boys! *End of transmission* Vera-Linn Vice
