And honestly it just upset me more. Because the thing is, regardless of how attached I am to certain characters, I fully understand that the actors playing them have every right to make decisions that are best for themselves and their careers. And if that includes leaving behind certain characters, then I support those decisions no matter how much I personally love the character.

That’s how I felt about Regé and that’s how I would feel about Simone, had there been any indication that it was her decision. Had this source even hinted at something like a scheduling conflict, I would have swallowed down my tears, made a “thank you for giving us Kate” post and simply moved onto waiting for all of Simone’s upcoming projects and season 4.

But to hear her repeatedly say that she wants to come back, that Kate is here to stay, that she wants a kanthony spinoff, hear her say she has ideas for Kate’s script and then to not see her? When she clearly wants to be there? It has just left me gutted.

Do you ever think about Anthony and Kate’s mutual attempted finger brush in 2x05? About how they are both aching for just the smallest touch but because neither are looking they deprive themselves of what they’re both reaching out for.

You’re so right about the tragedy of both of them reaching out and yet never meeting. That’s the bit that makes my heart ache too.

Because people always mention the yearning and yes, the yearning is so beautiful and poignant. But the way both of them are reaching out for each other and yet are unable to reach each other is gut-wrenching. It is the embodiment of ‘star crossed’. And that is what has stuck with me since the very first time I saw this scene.

I also think about whether or not there’s an element of self-restraint, with both of them reaching out but holding back from actually brushing against one another. Kate and Anthony know that they can't and perhaps they worry that actual physical contact might break open the dam holding together their feelings for each other, in such a way that they won’t be able to restrain themselves to stay away from each other, any longer.

Yet, somehow, they’re unable to stop themselves from reaching out, almost like it's an instinctive response to being in each other's proximity. The idea that their pinkies reaching out to each other is the matching cracks in their impressive armour of self-restraint and denial is so. OOF.

Because look, look at how much they are meant for each other, so much so that even their ‘flaws’ match. The pinkies don't end up actually brushing against one another because Kate and Anthony's mirroring need for each other is matched by their mirroring self-restraint when it comes to each other. And that makes the star crossed aspect so much more painful.

And as you can probably tell from this essay I’ve just written, the answer to whether I think about the 2x05 pinky brush is ONLY ALL THE TIME, ALWAYS AND FOREVER

The entrance scene to Lady Danbury’s ball is one of my most favourite scenes from Season 3 because there’s so many little details, and interesting tidbits that show the dynamics between these characters beautifully.

But I feel like a lot of these small but important details are missed, simply because this scene is a really quick one. So, let me breakdown some of my personal favourite bits from this scene:

Starting with, Anthony entering, proudly with his Viscountess on his arm. His head is held high and there’s even a spring in step. He’s so freaking happy to be walking in with Kate!!

But, besides being Kate’s proud husband, he’s also Francesca’s worrisome big brother and so he turns around check on her and when he sees that she’s feeling apprehensive, he holds her hand and tucks it into the crook of his elbow to remind her that he’s right beside her, to support her

While, Anthony comforts Francesca, Kate keeps the attention off them by dealing with all the polite courtesies and by complimenting Lady Danbury’s skills as a hostess.

Which distracts Lady Danbury from Anthony and Francesca long enough to preen at her Ball and also gives Anthony another convenient reason to keep falling deeper in love with his wife

Benedict and Colin are on their best behaviour because they are in Kate’s direct line of sight and she’s smiling sweetly at them and they absolutely will not be the reason she’s disappointed.

And for once, Violet Bridgerton is simply looking forward to a Ball

One thing about Season 1 Anthony Bridgerton?

I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to recommend The Anticipation of Relief by PenguinofProse

It’s marriage of convenience/arranged marriages and beautifully written!! I adored the way they grow to fall in love with each other and how that’s the catalyst for their desire for each other. The build up is gradual and you get to witness their relationship grow realistically but in such a profound way. The bits of their friendship, like their letters to each other, the inside jokes they share and their little tea time ritual are all so poignant, I’m tearing up a little just thinking about it.

This also has one of THE best found family bit with Kate and the Bridgertons as well as Anthony and his friends from University basically becoming kanthony stans. It’s surprisingly funny and touching.

There’s also a sequel from Kate’s perspective, which actually adds so much to the story and if you’re in it for the Kate x Bridgerton family feels, this is for you. The third part is about kanthony matchmaking and it’s equally good.

I haven’t said anything about it because I genuinely think that most of it is simply ignorance rather than anything else, but it makes me extremely sad to see Sophie referred to as the “first Asian lead in Bridgerton”, when Kate is literally from India, a country that is very much located in Asia.

South Asians (and Southeast Asians as well as Central Asians for that matter) are Asian. Just as Asian as East Asians. And I hope more people become aware of the fact that often the denial of this stems from racist rhetorics rooted in eugenics. So that they don’t end up accidentally repeating and furthering it.

Kate and Sophie are both Asian leads in Bridgerton and the world is a better place for it.
