i saw a post on twitter by a european saying americans are fake for their random compliments to strangers and their general cheery demeanor and like no. no no no you don’t understand. if you get a random compliment from an american on the street about your outfit or whatever, that is 100% genuine. we mean it. we aren’t lying we are making a small but fleeting connection with you because our lives are shitty but the human condition is enduring. oh god i’m clutching my chest

The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.

Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

Wine about Writ

The darkness bleeds in with color and a world hovers my own eyes.

Focusing in, there is another plane of existence. Theres a forest. A struggle, hands clawing up grass and flinging soil, a body struggling as it’s being dragged.

Then there’s that ache. A dull ache.

Of a decently sized nail nestled perfectly in your central brain. A pulsing, a throbbing.

An exhaustion. All of that inspiration, the piece of narrative and what it could tell you— fades back into the dark.

And I’m sitting in a bus, looking out a window, wondering- why has it become so hard?

When flights of fancy took wing, you’d fly; but then why this thing I love so much— why. No energy. Each beat a dull, sore, ache.

A lack of focus, my hand to my forehead. I can’t concentrate. The thought of doing this ends, and another day goes by with another unsuccessful attempt.

But god do I try.

And I will keep trying.

Nope.

People who make these blanket statements are very frequently proven wrong when the creator comes out as a member of that group. And even when they aren't proven wrong, even in cases where the creator isn't from the group in question, actual members of the group who don't fit whatever arbitrary criteria are being expressed will see these statements and feel excluded and erased.

Not everyone in your group is going to share your experiences. No single individual gets to personally decide what does or doesn't count as a "valid" expression of trauma or being part of a particular group, and creators are also not obligated to out themselves in order to "prove" their validity.

If something doesn't resonate with you, all that means is that it doesn't resonate with you. You don't have to like it. But you don't get to decide what it means to someone else.
