IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Most teachers and students of the new generation have been using Technological gadgets that help their Teaching process and their studying of different subjects. Using these different gadgets has been an important matter today for teachers and students because we are now in a time where education needs to be in our homes caused by different illnesses that are everywhere and can be transmitted anytime we are outside. Except for the fact that Technological gadgets are used inside the houses of everyone in this time of the pandemic, Technological gadgets in teaching can also be used inside the classroom. Today I gathered different opinions from teachers and from different schools to know the importance of Technology in Education. I interviewed Three teachers from High School who have been teaching for a long time and Five students from different schools who are very familiar with Technologies. Based on their experiences I asked them what technologies they use in teaching and then how their students behaved or act after using these technologies in teaching, I also asked them how important is Technology in Education. These are the answers that I collected.

For the longest time teachers are the most frequent users of technology, these are not just technological gadgets but technologies that surely help people to learn in the past, here are some of the technologies that present teachers use in teaching in the new era of learning, these were the answers from Teachers to the question “What technology he/she uses in teaching?”

Teacher Roanne Margaret Granale stated, “The technology that I use when I’m teaching are laptop, speaker, and projector.”. Another answer that I got is from Teacher Ma. Cristina P. Añasco and this is what she said “I've been using laptops and mobile devices for my virtual lesson while electronic devices like television for my PowerPoint presentation during face-to-face classes.”. except for those tools, these were the technologies that Teacher Shin Antazo use, “When I first started teaching. I used a variety of tools. including a laptop for PowerPoint presentations, a speaker for sound effects, and many more.”. Teachers of today have adapted the new technologies in Teaching that according to them simplify their jobs as teachers and also bring joy and fun to the learning of their students, but after all these technologies were used I also asked them “How do the students behave after using these technologies?” and these were their answers.

Teacher Roanne who uses Laptops, Projectors, and speakers said that her students become attentive learners and they easily understand the lesson, this is her answer, “My student attentively listens and easily understood the lesson. They are showing interest in the subject.”. in the other hand, Teacher Cristina answered “The students find it more interesting, fun, and engaging to attend the classes.” She also said that students are having fun in learning because of these tools in teaching that interacts students and lessons. Another observation from Teacher Shin was this, “When it comes to activities or assignments, students are most likely to search for them online and print them out, which is one of the various behaviors I see, students are quite lazy about writing their lessons on their notes.” She stated that after using technologies in teaching her students became relying on printing and online browsing rather than writing and expressing their thoughts, Teacher Shin also added, “Technology has an impact, but I think using it appropriately will provide positive results.”. This is true because nowadays students use technologies very often resulting in overuse and worse of all results in abuse.

After the interview with teachers, I also asked students from different schools who are very familiar with using technologies because they are already using these things since they become mindful of what are technologies for and how to use them. I asked Five students “Why do you think technology is important in your studies?”.

This is an answer from Ms. Ella Mae Tolentino a 22-year-old student of BS in Construction Engineering from Antipolo Institute of Technology, “It allows me to expand my knowledge about things that I cannot see in a book. Technology helps make things easier, especially today when most things can be seen on the internet.” According to Ms. Ella Technology expands knowledge, unlike books that have limited content, technologies also make browsing information easier with the use of the internet.

“Nowadays it is hard to study if you don't have an internet connection or technological devices to work on because we are still in a pandemic. A lot of schools have adjusted to online classes for the safety of the students and teachers.”, that was an answer from Mr. Kenneth Gallego a 24-year-old student of BS in Business Administration Major in Operations Management from The Institute of Creative Computer Technology or ICCT Colleges, he emphasized the importance of technology now that the Philippines is under the distance learning, technology according to him keeps learning alive even there are happenings that hinder learning.

Technology makes studies very efficient, things like books can be on any phones or the internet and also it helps communication that eases information transferring because its fast and convenient with technology, that was the third answer from Mr. Judiel Tolentino, a 20-year-old student of BS in Construction Engineering from Antipolo Institute of Technology, this was the full statement, “Napadali nito ang pag aaral ko. nagiging portable lahat ng mga kailangan sa school. Example mga libro, di na kailangan magdala ng hard-copy kasi may mga nakikita na nito sa internet soft-copy pa, lagay sa phone, bale easy access. Napadali din pag aaral ko through communications. Kasi mas nako-contact ng mabilis yung mga kaklase, professors or kahit na sino, na kailangan kausapin.”.

Another importance stated by Ms. Jhudy Armero a 20-year-old student of Bachelor in Elementary Education from The Institute of Creative Computer Technology or ICCT Colleges, “it allows us, students, to conduct some research that may help us to expand our knowledge, that’s why it is important” Ms. Jhudy pointed out the importance of the Internet Technology that helps students gain knowledge outside the books and also she said that internet expands our knowledge to some topics or issues of today’s society.

The last importance of Technology that I gathered was from Mr. Miguel Angelo Baylon a 22-year-old student of BS Information Technology from Binangonan Catholic College, this was his answer, “It is very important in my course because we're a programmer and in my field, it is the most needed, we can't do a project like coding, making applications, websites, debugging, etc. and it provides me with easy-to-access information and accelerated learning.” In the field of Information Technology from its name Technology is a must because they are the one who focuses a lot on technology innovation and creation and without different technologies, none of their jobs will be possible.

Those were the information I collected that shows the importance of technology not just for teachers and students but also for all the people that are living in the present time. All in all, Technology helps not just Learning but also supports productivity for everybody who finds efficiency in their field of work, Technology also expands people’s knowledge that enables them to share with everyone what needs to be known and thought to others, Technology plays an important role today that we are already in an innovative society where these things are part of the production and distribution of all the things that we people need to live.

Technology is a part of humanity now, let’s accept modernity for our world to be better and more efficient for everybody, use Technology but don’t abuse it.

Different technologies students used in learning/studying their lessons or any object.

          People of the present time are more relying to technologies that helps ease problems that are occurring in every occasion and different circumstances like learning new things. I gathered different answers from students on what technologies they use more often when they want to learn something about an object or simply about their lessons in school.

An answer from a student of University of Rizal System Angono named Justine Antioquia said that she uses handy gadgets like cellular phones and laptops to make her work more productive and convenient. Because these gadgets are easy to carry, she can bring it anywhere and anytime she needs to know something. These gadgets according to Ms. Justine have everything unlike books that are heavy but still limited.

          Ms. Justine also stated that she frequently use google apps like “Google Classroom” and “Google Meet”, these both apps are very helpful and handy at the same time, It helps student have communication with their teachers and instructors who helps them in learning their lessons especially now that the Philippines is under the New Normal Modality of learning.

          Another answer that I was able to get was also from the same school his name is Kein Sherwin Arabit, He stated that he uses technologies including cellphones and laptops that has a lot of features that helps him learn by viewing videos and hear the creator’s own explanation of the subject he is trying to learn.
