i see a lot of stuff everywhere about how Bangla as a language is really sweet but no one ever really talks about how MAJESTIC it is.
like, good or bad, you can always find a way to make it sound GRAND in Bangla.
the mighty Padma that devours so much land every year? "Keertinasha" (the one who destroys creation)
playful movement of eyebrows? "Bhrubibhrom" (illusion of the brows)
like there is so much more- and i mean it when i say that being in love with Bangla is part of my being. It is in me, and I am in it- forever

Prothom Protishruti
The first novel of the trilogy "Satyabati" by Ashapurna Devi
In the book "Prothom Protishruti" or "The First Promise" the author tell us the struggles, sorrows, and efforts of women in 19th Century colonial Bengal. It starts off with the story of an Eight year old girl named Satyabati who stands up against the social norms, injustice and superstitions. The story is set in Nityendapur, a remote village of the then undivided Bengal. From an early age, Satyabati used to point out all the unfairness and injustice she witnessed which amazed her father, Ramkali. Being somewhat different and unusual than girls of her age, she was always on Ramkali's mind. Despite Ramkali's unwillingness, Satyabati who was married to Nabakumar was transferred to the home of her in-laws in Baruipur when she was only a Nine years old girl. Satyabati's mother-in-law's merciless abuse, maltreatment or the strict supervision, nothing stopped her from fighting to establish her own rights.
After many hardships in her life, Satyabati still wanted her children to become a good person, she wanted her youngest daughter to be what she couldn't. But was she really successful? Or the deity was only giving her false hopes? Was she able to keep the promise she made to herself? I believe this is what the book is about. This is a huge story with variety of realistic characters. From her bad-tempered mother-in-law Elokeshi to Nabakumar's teacher Bhabatosh Master or his cousin Saudamini, everyone had quite an impact in her life. Instead of being confined within the four walls, she broke the shackles of prejudices to experience the life she used to dream of.
“āĻāĻ¤ā§‹ āĻ†āĻ˛ā§‹ āĻĒā§ƒāĻĨāĻŋāĻŦā§€āĻ¤ā§‡, āĻ¤āĻŦā§ āĻĒā§ƒāĻĨāĻŋāĻŦā§€āĻ° āĻŽāĻžāĻ¨ā§āĻˇāĻ—ā§āĻ˛ā§‹ āĻāĻ¤ā§‹ āĻ…āĻ¨ā§āĻ§āĻ•āĻžāĻ°ā§‡ āĻ•ā§‡āĻ¨?”
(There is so much light in this world, yet why do its people reside in so much darkness?"
From the very beginning of the novel, I was really really immersed in the story. I have to agree that Ashapurna Devi's storytelling is insane. The people felt so real like i can't help but wonder how she brought the then rural colonial bengal back to life. The customs and traditions, the change in people and nature, the beliefs everything feels so real like I've been there.
It was a 10/10. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK!👏👏(It's available in English too) Can't wait to read the two other books of the trilogy, "Subarnalata" and "Bakul-Kotha".

Do not forget about Palestinians on this Eid, do not forget about Gaza, do not forget about the lives taken and homes destroyed, do not forget about the joy and life so cruelly snatched from them.
Eid means to us what Christmas means to most of you. And they're spending it digging through rubble and locating bodies to burry.
They have no chocolates, no new clothes to wear, no homes to decorate, they lost loved ones which would gather together, no Eidi to give to children to make them happy, no mehndi, no jewelery, no new toys.
Do not forget about Palestine.
Keep boycotting for them, keep protesting for them, keep donating to the families through the link tree, keep buying e-sims for them, keep sharing the truth, keep exposing Israel for their consistent humanitarian crimes.
Remember the Palestinians, especially today, on Eid, an occasion of joy.
May Allah make it joyous for them after everything they had suffered, may they be free from the Zionist occupation and genocide
Eid Mubarak, to everyone, and to the Palestinians

Ramadan Kareem to all those who observe, may Allah accept our fasts and duaa and allow us growth and harmony over the course of the next month. May Allah ease the suffering of those in Gaza and across Falasteen, Sudan, Congo, Yemen, Tigray, Kashmir, West Papau, and all those who are oppressed around the world. May He grant them shifa, tranquility, steadfastness, and sabr. May He grant us the strength and ability to fight injustice wherever we see it, and victory over our oppressors.
Here is a list of resources for Gaza and Falasteen. Here is an even bigger list. Here’s a much smaller one. Here is one with resources for both Gaza and Sudan.
Here is the link to a GFM that is very important to me. Here is the link to a GFM for a family in urgent need of evacuation out of Gaza.
Here is a way to help out Sudan. Here are links for donations, Sudanese businesses to support, and brief education about Sudan. Here is a post with resources for education and updates about what's happening in Sudan.
Here is a post with resources for Tigray.
Here is a post with important information on boycotting for Congo. Here is a post with links to support Congo.
Here is a list of resources for education on various issues around the world, including but not limited to West Papau, Hawai'i, Kashmir, and Armenia.
You can check my resources tag for more. I know tumblr's searching system isn't the best, though, so I tried to put as many as I could from that tag here.
Ramadan Kareem. May every action we take towards justice bring us lasting freedom and tranquility 🌙

Abbas Attar's photographs of Dhaka on December 16, 1971: when the Pakistani Armed Forces finally surrendered to Mukti Bahini, ending the nine-month Liberation War and 1971 Bangladesh genocide and marking the official secession of East Pakistan to become the new state of Bangladesh. Bangladesh commemorates this day as Victory Day (āĻŦāĻŋāĻœāĻ¯āĻŧ āĻĻāĻŋāĻŦāĻ¸) to honour the martyrs who laid their lives down in the war.

Ramadan is coming up and I can’t stress enough how much Palestinians have never got the chance to experience one normal Ramadan for 75years
You may not have been subjected to this, but as a person from an Arabic country, every Ramadan from every year there’s always headlines of Israeli iof soldiers or Israeli extremist settlers attacking Palestinians during Ramadan, especially Palestinian worshipers trying to pray in the al aqsa mosque
It’s happens almost every single year
Ramadan is suppoused to be Muslim people’s month of worship, of Baraka and it is very important to Muslim people
But Palestinians never ever experienced a normal Ramadan because Israel attacks them Viciously
Almost
Every
Single
Fucking
Year
And I will dare and say that Israel does it on purpose, it does it every Ramadan on purpose
And now, this year, with Ramadan being only a few weeks away, I doubt that they’ll have a normal Ramadan, not in the West Bank, and not in Gaza
All what I have to say here is that Israel will still follow this trend, something bad is gonna happen this Ramadan, keep an eye on Palestine during Ramadan

i'm seeing people losing hope for palestine i'm begging you seriously please don't. the death toll is high but there are still people alive, there are still journalists risking everything to make sure the world sees what is happening. please continue protesting if you have the option to, keep demanding for a ceasefire and keep talking about palestinians both alive and dead. you have to keep going until the very end or else you really did fail them.

people who think ali hazelwood and emily henry invented straight romance should sit for a compulsory viewing of late 2000s-early 2010s bollywood romcom movie situationships, which were all about putting together two random hot young people into the Most out of pocket wish-fulfilment fanfiction tropes of all time. and they still had light years more flavour and chemistry than any booktok fave romance btw.
