A typical love letter for someone I left in my past. You, I knew I was gonna spend my whole life with ever since our talks, walks, hugs & kisses (No need to get deep but there was a love we made & it always grew like a tree near a lake). So I chose to stop playing games ever since, trusting you to trust your heart too. God knows, you're the deepest my heart has gone but it is he who made me walk away from us because he wanted to keep me whole, so I purposely reserved your place in my heart for life whether you knew it or not, whether you were in my life or not; knowing exactly that this would be a burden to anyone who came after you because I would protect you & not tell them about you (even though we never belonged to each other at any point) & also because they'll never know exactly what I had with you. It's a pity though, probably that someone now would think they'd have to fight to prove they can be better, when I know exactly that they are because at least they want to try. I may sound like I am but I really don't blame you for not choosing to take the risk with me because possibly I deserve better but better yet, because you wanted better than what I could offer (cause you're that smart even, I couldn't help but fall in love with all of you so no surprise to me I got trapped) or maybe, you were just scared. None the less than, I am now letting you go (not the you you are cause that ship sailed long ago BUT the one I kept in my heart), not because I am tired of loving you or feel stupid for making you that special but because I need that piece of my heart back for myself now. I truly do, need that peace, need to heal & give me all that love back. Luckily this doesn't have to be a back & forth altercation with us, oh how we were always so flawless (never had even a single fight), so much that we didn't have to speak to feel each other because the connection WAS JUST MAGICAL. Anyway, that is just the past now. The Q&A Interview With Randy McLlolan

Who is Randy McLlolan and where is she from ?

Randy McLlolan is a 21-year-old young up and coming musical talent originally from Empangeni. I’m a vibrant, spunky and a very gentle soul, who loves music, has a passion for the arts and loves life in general. I would consider myself to be a soulful, mindful and thought-provoking songstress. In a nut-shell Randy is an all-round artist.

I listened to your music on SoundCloud, I couldn’t really put a genre to it, what genre would you say you do ?

I like to see myself as a complete artist, in the sense that the music I make is worldly and caters for every generation. I do House, Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop, Folk etc. However popularly my music has been categorised as Neo Soul, which would be a niche market here in South Africa.

These days everybody steps behind a booth and feels like they’re an artist or artistic, what separates you from everybody else ?

I think the fact that I’m brutally honest in my music makes me different from everyone else. I absolutely sing from the heart. I compose my exact feelings of the matter into a song whenever I step into the booth - never to do it to please the crowd. I believe in the product I make and I know it is 100% authentic and Randy McLlolan unfiltered.

How long have you been making music ?

I started recording in 2013 but writing and making music begun in my school and church choir days.

Are you currently signed to a label or are you independent - if the latter, are you planning to sign or remain independent ?

I am currently independent and regarding signing, I don’t know. Being independent is hard but until the right deal comes along, I guess I will gladly keep doing things for myself.

Do you produce for yourself or do you have a go-to producer ? if so, just describe your relationship with them.

Lindelani Ndwandwe, better known as Dunn Phantom. Technically, he is what you call my personal producer but I personally consider him to be the instrument behind the music I make. We never find the need to plan for something new but magically it gets done and the fact that we never argue makes it even easier to deal with the work and the friendship.

Your management team told me you have a project/EP on the way. Could you please give us some insight on that.

The current project that I have been working on is nearly done. Its called Crimes of Passion and it is a 6 track EP. I’m very excited about this project as I’ve been working on it for more than a year now. Basically, it’s about love. It speaks to the joys of love and how love can sometimes do bad things to you until you realise the wrong and right within a relationship. For example, the heart of the project “Satellites”, is about how in a relationship one partner can be so in love that they learn to start worrying about the good without the option of focusing on the bad. Also “Lower Grade” speaks to women and men empowerment, like having the ability to leave a relationship when it no longer works for them and having men submit to their partners without a chance of disappointment. Crimes Of Passion is as good as it promises to be. It takes you on a journey through love and all its phases.

Will there be any features on the project ?

Basically, No. The project is solely Randy McLlolan - with a touch of my producer’s verse on one of the tracks called “Walk By”. I want people to get to know my music before I start featuring with other artists.

Can you play any musical instruments ?

No, and funny enough I have been trying to get someone to teach me how to play the guitar or at least the piano. But no, my voice is the only instrument I play for now.

Describe your music in one word.

HONEST

Do you have any rituals before a performance ?

No. I usually just get up on stage, however I am feeling and perform. It sort of gives me motivation not to screw up but especially to give people what they came for. Which is a good time.

Which artist inspires your sound the most ?

I believe it would be Amy Winehouse, may her soul rest in peace. She has been a great influence on my music but also most recently I’ve fallen in love with the sound of a band known as “The Internet”.

Which local artist would you love to work with in your career ?

Simphiwe Dana, she’s purely gifted.

You are/were nominated for ‘Best Up & Coming Act’, at the Live Your Dream Awards - South African Arts & Culture. Tell me more about that.

The Live Your Dream Awards is a platform for national up and coming artists, coming together to acknowledge the work they’ve done thus far being recognised by the public. After making it to 2nd place at the Jack Daniels Music Scouts in 2015. t The top 10 in the KZN Music Imbizo 2016 and performing more this year - My work was recognised and the Live Your Dream awards. It took my music to a wider audience. After not getting the award I learnt that for me it has been a great experience and also a good learning opportunity.
