Type Treasure
Over on TYPE Magazine’s blog, Paul Barnes explores a few of the hidden gems of the St. Bride Library, London in a article, The Treasure of St. Bride—Part II.
The concise article takes a look at a few of the punches, matrices, the molds that London’s preeminent type foundries used to create printing type between the 18th to the 20th centuries.
Paul is a partner in Commercial Type and a trustee of St. Bride Library.
You can also read about St. Bride’s unique collection of decorative Pouchée alphabets, here on Type Worship.

Magic Lantern
We all have memories of incidents that are unforgettable to us. In this module, I tell the story of one such incident from my childhood. I first drew my characters and scenes on a storyboard and printed them out on transparent film. My story was related to candy. I drew different candies and tied them to a thread so that I could show them going through my character’s mind. It was hard to sync the voice and movements together but practice makes a man perfect.

What does it mean? What are you trying to show? are the two questions that come to mind after looking at this picture, but the picture itself answers these questions. During our Surface studio class, we were said to make collages. I had started experimenting with lines, triangles, and squares. I was said to consider some principles like hierarchy, texture, composition etc. I learned how opposite and two different objects can be joined and still look great.
I enjoyed making collages a lot and still experiment with them.
