I look at you—

you,

doe-eyed,

shark-smiling,

soft-hearted—

and I think it.

I nearly say it, too.

It bubbles up,

warm and sweet

like milk in a pot.

It fills my mouth,

fuzzy and silencing

like cotton.

I don’t say it.

Not now,

while it’s fresh.

While we’re fresh.

I don’t want to rush

it or you.

I don’t want to seem

odd or desperate.

But I think it.

I think it so loudly

that you must hear it.

I think it so often

that it can be seen in brain scans.
