To the most beautiful and strongest woman in my life, Happy Mother’s Day Ma! As cliche as it is, i just wanna give my thanks to you for carrying me inside your womb for nine-long months and giving birth to me. Thank you for loving me naturally with every single piece of yourself because knowing myself, i know it’s hard to love me wholly and for taking care of me without hesitations now matter how huge of a challenge I am. Even when I’m in my lowest of lows, you never left me. You have always believed in me even when all of the people around me already gave up on me, and I mostly am grateful for that. I know I am not really expressive of my feelings when it comes to you but I want you to know that I love you and will always be there for you like you are always there for me. Again, Happy Mother’s Day and remember that, not just in special occasions but everyday, I love you.

my own personal speech regarding “FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION”
As a great novelist, George Orwell, once said, “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” Each and every one of us is entitled to our own opinion no matter how disagreeable it is. Freedom of expression or freedom of speech is a basic right that every person acquires, it is our right to be able to express our individual perspectives, convey our ideas, impart and receive information limited to a certain extent without any form of intervention. Repressing this right means tyrannizing our whole selves, social interaction will diminish causing a downfall to the society. Just like what happened during the Marcos regime wherein the freedom of expression of the media and press was ripped off from them.
Former President Ferdinand Marcos brought our nation to affliction during that time, it was such a traumatizing moment that even up to this day, we are still suffering from the trails of horror it left in our country. The people’s fundamental rights are being stolen from them, tremendous crime and cruelty are extensively perpetrated, which invoked fear to every Filipinos. But one of the darkest moments that made a huge impact to the country was the media oppression. It was a period of fraught for the media and press, media outlets and establishments were forced to close, public voices and criticisms were silenced, speaking against the system put lives in danger, and circulating information were completely controlled. Basically, Marcos has full governance on how the media will operate. He was well-aware of the power the media possess against him.
In contrast, Philippine media today made a significant change compared to before. It finally has full control to the freedom of expression it was once deprived of. Social media platforms made fundamental development to the media, it catalyzed the circulation of information. Everyone can now have access to media. However, due to these changes, the quality of it was damaged and the naivety of the people worsened. Many information these days have high levels of inaccuracies which lead the people to easily believe in fake news. It is challenging to correct those mistakes and alter the minds of the people for everything moves in a fast pace. Additionally, media today seems to focus more on irrelevant issues instead of investing to the bigger and important issues and happenings in our country. This shows that having complete regulation to media causes the public to be ignorant and misinformed. It is a must for the media to start honing its quality and make progression in order to be more constructive for the public because we are relatively dependent to them at this state of time.
Yes, it is our fundamental right to have a freedom of expression and yes, we are entitled to our own opinion, but it is vital for us to know our limitations when posing our ideas, opinions, and information.
