A sorceress with fierce power and fiercer ruthlessness. A daughter, a tool, at the mercy of her cruel mother. A woman too old to be meddling yet unable to resist.
A Sorceress Comes to Call was everything I've come to love about T. Kingfisher, familiar in many ways yet not. The characters are, as always, endearing and wonderfully fleshed out, with just the right amount of wit. I was rooting for them, just as I rooted for the villain of this story to die a most unpleasant death.
(Also, something I love about reading many works by the same author is connecting threads between them. What sticks in the mind of authors when they sit down to write? What throughlines can be seen across their imagine worlds? For T. Kingfisher it looks like honorable men and impossibly pragmatic women. Vaguely magical fowl. Cursed horses. I just think that's neat.)

"If the river has roots, it has branches, too. Learn to climb them"
This one felt like a fairytale--magical and lyrical and nonsensical in all the best ways. I read this in one sitting, because once I felt the rhythm of it I couldn't put it down.

not to quote rent at you like the millennial queer i am, but the opposite of war isn't peace, it's creation.
make art. make music. make literature. make poetry. make clothing. make a birdhouse. make a meal. make a little guy. make a journey. make friendships. make community. make connections. make someone smile. make someone laugh. make someone burn bright with the assurance that they are loved. make a home.
your job on this earth is to care for yourself and be a blessing to those around you. we create a better world right here, where we stand, starting with us.

May 3rd, 2025
Beautiful spring days... I've spent a lot of time outside this week and this changes everything. Life is so much more beautiful with sunshine, green leaves and movement outside. I'm trying to make things that make me happy and it's working well.
Yesterday, I spent an hour reading and the day before I went on a 5h hike. I bought a pottery wheel and hopefully I'll try it out tonight.
