HEY HI HELLO 👋🏻 QOTD: how do you feel about New Year’s Resolutions? I really look forward to the beginning of the new year. I love the idea of a fresh start. A clean slate. A new benchmark in life.. I know your issues and problems and responsiblilites follow you from December 31 to January 1 but to me, there is something mentally powerful about the start of an entirely new set of 365 days. So many things can happen in 365 days and the possibilities are endless: ✨ I am pledging that my health will be a main priority in 2022 (mental, physical, spiritual) ✨ BE MORE INTENTIONAL WITH MY TIME. life is too short to waste your time. I'm turning 28 in March and I have big plans/goals for this new era of my occupancy of the universe. ✨ carve out time to learn new things ✨ READ. MORE. BOOKS. There are sooooooooo many stories I want to read and worlds I want to visit and characters I want to meet! This will be my first full year on Bookstagram and I am SO looking forward to properly tracking my reading. I want to branch out a bit with my reading but also want to read so much fantasy that I forget what realm I actually exist in 🤣 The thought of all of the magic there is to discover this year is truly exciting. more plants more books more tattoos more fresh air more yoga more greens more cats more patience more smoothies more fruit more homemade more water more exercise more date nights more love more HAPPY 🌿 Resolutions are supposed to be fun and inspire growth — don’t put too much pressure on yourself! Set the bar low and see how your small successes have a huge impact. MINI REVIEW 🪴 🎧 Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin //Read for us by Saskia Maarleveld & Holter Graham // ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book. I have had it on my wish list on Audible for months and with all of the hype — for some reason it made me put it off? Idk what was wrong with me because once a started I flew through it! Saskia Maarleveld was one of the narrators for War Storm [last book in Red Queen series] so I knew I loved her voice, however a lot of the negative reviews referenced Holter’s performance for Reid. I thought he did a great job — very emotional and I found myself enjoying a few of the Reid POV chapters more than Lou’s. BUT, overall I found Lou’s POV to be the winning part of the book performance wise. She is my favorite kind of main character — funny, sarcastic, kickass, and unapologetically herself. Which sometimes comes off as petulant but it worked for Lou. I gave Serpent & Dove four stars because I loved the story, the magic, the characters, and the romance. Checked all of my boxes! The only thing that kept it from five stars was the super strong religious persecution undertone to the entire book which personally wasn’t my favorite, but I will say it did add an important level to the story. TRILOGY TUESDAY 🪴 BOOK 3 🎧 Requiem by Lauren Oliver // Read for us by Sarah Drew // ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 PERFORMANCE APPRECIATION 🪴 These 3 listens were the first audiobooks that made me truly appreciate how much the narrator’s performance can enhance a story — Sarah Drew IS Lena Haloway. She made this character a real entity in my head and I really felt like I was listening to a real person tell me this epic story. [Before I started I read a review on Audible, from a person that had previously read the physical copies, that said you needed to listen to this series in order to fully absorb it because the performance was THAT good. And I 100% believe it!] Sarah’s melodic tone and words and LO’s writing are an unbeatable combo. @thesarahdrew — I hope you read this and know that you are AMAZING. TRILOGY TUESDAY 🪴 BOOK 2 🎧 Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver // Read for us by Sarah Drew // ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ COVER ART APPRECIATION 🪴 I may be biased towards my own photography — but this picture DOES IT for me. The cover art here just freaking pops and I am here for it! I love the fractured heart theme going on on this cover and throughout the trilogy. It goes so perfectly with this plot and the minds/lives of the characters, especially in Pandemonium. Favorite thing about book 2 was the character development and the dueling “now” and “then” perspectives. Slightly confusing at first but as you get used to it, it really adds depth to the words. Book 1 follows Lena as she nears her “procedure” to make sure she never catches the deliria. But we all know it just takes one person to turn your world upside down. TITLE APPRECIATION 🪴 The name of this book caught my eye immediately. I swear I used an Audible credit before I even read the synopsis! There was no way it wasn’t going to be good with a name like “Delirium”. Idk why my brain works like that but it does.. well played Ms. Oliver, well played.
