WRITEBLR RE-INTRO;
"A moon addled, girl-shaped beast."
ABOUT ME;
My alias on this hellsite (affectionate) is king, I'm a queer writer and use she/they pronouns, I've lived twenty two years in this earth and I still know very little.
I almost exclusively write fantasy and all of my main characters are queer, often I will write a queer romance subplot in my stories, if all of my wips have a curly haired bisexual asshole that's just because I have taste. Found family is one of my favourite tropes (did I mention I'm queer), as well as deconstructing and subverting what is monstrous. If I want one word to come to mind when someone reads my writing I think it would be 'whimsical'.
I love to be tagged in writing games even if it takes me a little while to respond :)
MY WRITING;
HARROWMARK; sometimes a family could be a girl king denied her throne too long, an ex-communicated knight fulfilling his last oath, and a warlock of the old wood with a life-debt to pay // queer, found family, ghibli vibes & aesthetic
taglist (ask to be +/-); @piyawrites / @wickerring / @ladywithalamp / @samayla / @chariklos / @writeblrfantasy / @wizardfromthesea / @uppoffringar / @philocalizt
***
A CURSE MADE OF TEETH; a monster stalks under moonlight and a young warrior catches her scent, old blood runs through both of their veins and neither of them are what the other expects // queer (wlw-centric), folklore & mythology inspiration, gothic adjacent
taglist (ask to be +/-); @piyawrites / @fiercely-raging-writer / @ladywithalamp / @whelanwrites / @uppoffringar / @philocalizt
***
SONG OF THE RAVEN; there is a corruption in the song that hums in all living things, and it is spreading, a young sanctra (one who hears the song and knows the language of the divine) sets out of the temple to investigate // queer, magic system, polytheism
taglist (ask to be +/-); @piyawrites / @ladywithalamp / @chariklos / @writeblrfantasy / @wickerring / @thats-my-type-writer / @sunlightwriter / @teriwrites / @harinawa / @marimos / @uppoffringar / @philocalizt

"The magic system is never fully explained" yeah that's how life works. Imagine having a story set in modern day America and the characters have several pages of exposition on combustion engines and telecommunication networks before we get to the plot

I don’t know how to explain to some discourse damaged people on the unholy trinity of social-media-websites-whose-names-start-with-a-T that romantic subplots in non romance media are not put there with the sole purpose of giving the audience the warm fuzzies; that, like any other element in a story, a romantic subplot should serve the themes and central thesis statement of its larger narrative; and that sometimes the most adequate choice of a pairing or approach to romance for a given story is not necessarily the one you personally think would be the cutest / healthiest / most progressive

…Do you ever see people critiquing specific word usage in novels and wonder if they know that language can be used in fun and figurative ways? And that this is half the joy of writing?
An example off the top of my head - if I say ‘He gave a whisper of a smile’, it does not mean that the smile is literally whispering; it means that the word ‘whisper’ invokes a sense of smallness, due perhaps to subtlety or shyness, and that is something I want connected to your mental envisioning of this dude’s smile.
Saying ‘But that makes no sense; a smile and a whisper are two different things’ misses the point e n t i r e l y

don't get me wrong I love unhinged feral disaster characters but may I submit: the calm, collected, master of resting nothing-fazes-me bitchface character gradually being pushed to their breaking point, slowly and agonizingly becoming more deranged as the foundation they've built their worldview, their entire identity, upon crumbles to pieces beneath them, until all that's left is blood and ash and the beast that's lied dormant within the darkest depths of their soul finally, gleefully awakens to unleash absolute fucking hell, mmm yeah that's the good stuff

Pet peeve: post apocalyptic stuff where there's no more light pollution but the night sky still looks exactly the same as if there were
Hot take but if you're world doesn't have electricity let alone cities worth of light pollution then your night sky should look like this

Writing is not about 'telling an epic story' or 'making something that will outlive you'. Writing is about going "You know what would be fucking awesome?" and then committing word crimes

Shout out to the people not doing Inktober, Flufftober, NaNoWriMo, etc. this year (or any year) for whatever reason.
Because they have prior work commitments (retail/service can be hell this time of year).
Because they’re too busy with school work or exam prep.
Because they’re dealing with chronic conditions and illnesses.
Because they have poor mental health and want to prioritise that.
Have other personal priorities and commitments.
Because they have no ideas or are between projects.
Because they don’t have energy.
Because they just don’t bloody well want to thank you very much.
You aren’t any less valid as an artist/writer/creator, and can’t/shouldn’t be pressured into doing anything you don’t want to do or made to feel bad about it.
This list is not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive, additions are welcomed.
P.S Not intended to be hate on anyone who does actually participate or enjoy these monthly challenges.

i keep seeing arguments about various types of LGBT media that boil down to "there's too much of [one type of LGBT media], we need more of [other type of LGBT media]" and it's like.... there isn't 'too much' of any kind of lgbt stuff actually
