You and Jake have tamed your Ikrans. You have completed the Uniltaron. You are now one of the people. Tsu’tey painted your body in white paint, lines were on your face and chest. It was honorable. It was amazing. Eytukan placed a hand on your and Jake's shoulders, followed by the rest of the people. You are now one of the People.
You have learned well. It was hard. Learning how to shoot a bow, hunt, and run without falling or making a noise. You and Tsu’tey got closer as time went on. The tension between you was obvious. Well, to anyone who will look. Jake had given you a few knowing looks, but you had given them right back about Neytiri.
You snuck away from the celebration a while ago. You realized that now that you are stuck in this body, Jake will go back to Earth and you will have to stay here. The realization makes you sad, and you hold your tears until you get somewhere more private.
You found a small pond, away from people. Fish swam and algae glowed below the water. Your feet were dipped in and you stared into the water as you cried.
You should’ve been focusing more. Maybe you would have heard the footsteps behind you. But you didn’t. So when Tsu’tey sat down beside you, you jumped.
“Tsu’tey,” Your voice cracked as you clutched your chest, willing your heart to calm down. “You scared me.” You breathed out a sigh of relief that it was only Tsu’tey.
“Why are you crying?” That's what he asked immediately, ignoring your words. You sniffled and wiped your cheeks.
“I’m sad.” You told him, looking back at the water.
“You are one of The People, what is there to be sad about?” His voice was soft, not how it usually was with others. You noticed that. That his voice would go kind with you.
“Jake will one day go back to the star and I will be stuck here.” When he didn’t respond you continued, “I love it here, I love The People. But, I will miss my brother.” Tsu’tey rubbed the side of your head, comforting you.
“What can I do to help?” He asked you sincerely. He wanted to help you. The thought made you smile as you turned to him. He took his hand off your head, placing it in his lap.
“May I?” You motioned to his hands and he nodded. You grabbed them and placed them on both sides of your cheeks. You held his wrists as his fingers molded into your cheeks and closed your eyes. “Just keep your hands here.” You told him.
“Why?” His voice was curious.
“It’s comforting.” You opened your eyes and saw a look of understanding cross his face. “Why did you come for me?” You asked him. He seemed startled by the question but composed himself quickly.
“I came to inform you of some things.” You hum for him to continue. “Now that you are one of The People, you can make a bow from hometree. And…you can choose and man to mate with.” Your ears perk up at this.
“Oh.” Is all you say. You glance down at Tsu’tey’s lips.
You didn’t realize how close you were to each other but now you do. You slowly inch forward and you think he is too. Your lips meet and you give him a peck before he’s pulling you by your neck to deepen the kiss. You want to mate with him, you realize.
And as you kiss him, you bring your tswin over your shoulder. He seems to understand as he grabs his too. He looks at you for permission and you nod. He connects your tswin to his. You gasp at the contact.
You can feel his heartbeat. His breath. His thoughts. His feelings. You can feel all of him. From his toes up to his hair, you can feel him. You can feel how he feels about you and it is strong. You know he can feel the same things. His scent is intoxicating as you bring your nose down to his neck to inhale it. You kiss his neck, then his jaw, then his lips again.
He breaks away, taking a breath and smiling. “Ma Y/N.” That's all he says before lying you down on the grass.
—
When you awake the next morning, you wake with a start. You can feel the pounding of something on the forest floor. Tsu’tey can feel it too. You both get up and get onto the nearest Pa’lis you can find. Fire and destruction are all you see that is being caused by these machines. The RDA is destroying the forest.
—
Tears were streaking down your face as you remembered the fires and destruction the demons were causing. When you had seen it you had started sobbing. You couldn’t stop. How could they be so heartless? Tsu’tey tried to comfort you but he was also upset.
You and Tsu’tey approach the building circle of people with your bows in hand, chanting out war cries. Tsu’tey was leading you towards the middle. You knew what this was about. A demon was trying to attack the People. A demon was trying to take Hometree. People moved out of the way for the future Olo’eyktan.
When you got to the middle, the Olo’eyktan and Tsahìk were standing there. Tsu’tey let go of your hand and grabbed his bow.
“Tsu’tey will lead the war party!” The Olo’eyktan announced in Na’vi. Yips and war cries were heard around you and you joined in. You are a warrior too. Tsu’tey lifted his bow in the air. Grace broke through the circle, yelling.
“Stop please!” She yelled, the Na’vi around you quieted looking at Grace. “This will only make it worse.” Tsu’tey put his bow down, glaring at Grace.
“You do not speak here!” Tsu’tey yelled, pointing his bow at Grace. “We will strike them in the heart!” You let out a war cry as did the others around you, and you held your bow in the air.
“Tsu’tey!” Your brother’s voice broke through the yells. “Don’t do this.”
“You!” Tsu’tey started walking towards your brother, but you intercepted him.
“Tsu’tey!” You pushed on his chest as he tried to push your brother down.
The Tsahìk looked at all of you closely. You, look at Tsu’tey with eyes begging him not to hurt your brother. Tsu’tey, looking at you, seemingly having a conversation with his eyes. Neytiri, looking between Jake and Tsu’tey worriedly. And Jake, look at you, then at Neytiri and back. He looked worried for both of your safety. Then the Tsahìk smelled it. Neytiri smelled of Jake. Jake smelled of Neytiri. You smelled of Tsu’tey. Tsu’tey smelled of you. You have mated with Tsu’tey and Jake has mated with Neytiri.
The Tsahìk grabbed your shoulder, then Jake's. You let out a yelp at the sudden contact. She pulled you closer to her but spoke in a commanding voice.
“Tsu’tey,” She looked at him. “You mated with this woman?” She pulled on your arm for emphasis. Gasps were heard around you and your ears lowered.
“Oh shit.” Grace mutters.
“Yes.” He said, face hard and voice even harder.
“And Neytiri,” She then pulled Jake. “You mated with this man?” More gasps.
“Yes, we have mated before Eywa. It is done.” Neytiri announced, chin held up high. You looked at Tsu’tey, brows furrowed. Then at your brother, Jake. You would have to congratulate him later.
“If you choose this path,” She walks closer to Neytiri. “You will not be Tsahìk.”
“It is done.” That's all Neytiri says before Mo’at chooses to talk to her next victim, Tsu’tey.
“You think she is fit to be beside you?” The Tsahìk asked and Tsu’tey looked at you, his eyes softening before he looked back at Mo’at.
“Yes.” Tsu’tey takes in a shaky breath, before walking to calm himself down.
“Brother, please. Do not attack the sky people.” Tsu’tey is mad. You can tell by his posture. He is mad at the sky people and mad at his home being destroyed. So he is taking it out on the only demon he can find. “Many Omatikaya will die if you do!” Jake exclaims.
“You are not my brother!” Tsu’tey yells as he unsheathes his knife and charges at Jake.
“Tsu’tey!” You gasp as he attacks your brother, covering your hands with your mouth. Jake pushes Tsu’tey to the side and unsheathes his knife.
“And I am not your enemy!” He throws his knife to the ground and points to the sky. “The enemy is out there, and they are very powerful!” Jake takes a deep breath. “And I can talk to them.”
“No more talk!” Tsu’tey yells as he charges at Jake again.
“Tsu’tey stop!” You yell out, trying to calm your mate. Tsu’tey cuts Jake in the arm.
“Tsu’tey!” Neytiri screams. It’s a blur of movement and Tsu’tey is on the floor, wiping blood off his nose.
“I am Omatikaya. I am one of you. And I have the right to speak.” You approach Tsu’tey, your hand grabbing onto his arm just in case he tries to attack again. “I have something to say…” Everyone stares intently at him. “To all of you.” He switches to English and looks at Neytiri. “The words are like stones in my heart.” Just then Grace falls.
“Grace!” You run over to her, touching her face to see if she will wake up. Neytiri is beside you.
“Oh no,” Jake mumbles out and you look at him. He may fall too. “Okay, look. I was sent here to…” His eyes roll back and he falls.
“Jake!” You exclaim. Tsu’tey jumps over Jake, holding his head by his hair and putting a knife to his neck.
“You see?” He asks the crowd. “He is a demon in a false body!” You grab onto his arm and pull him back as you and Neytiri surround Jake. Neytiri hisses at Tsu’tey. Tsu’tey grunts and gets up from the ground.
—
Everyone is conversing when Jake and Grace emerge, Neytiri in front of them.
“Mother! Father!” Neytiri announces. You are crouched beside Tsu’tey. You are mad at him but refuse to separate from him in a time like this. You glance up at Jake who has a solemn look on his face.
“Eytukan, I have something to say.” He says to the Olo’eyktan.
“Listen.” Grace advises.
“Speak, JakeSully!” Eytukan holds up a hand, gesturing for him to speak. You and Tsu’tey make eye contact. You look at him and shake your head. Telling him not to interfere.
“A great evil is upon us.” Jake begins, “The Sky People are coming to destroy the home tree.” You gasp and grab Tsu’tey’s hand, looking for comfort. He squeezes it in acknowledgment. He’s telling you that he’s here and comforting you. You let out a hoot and Tsu’tey follows, so do the rest of the warriors.
“Tell them they’re gonna be here soon.” He says to Neytiri. You can only make out a few words since you are not fully fluent. Everyone lets out sounds of exasperation and fear.
“You have to leave or you’re gonna die,” Jake says to Eytukan.
“Are you certain of this?” Mo’at asks, glancing between Grace and Jake. Jake looks around hesitantly before continuing.
“Look, they sent me here to learn your ways.” His chest rises and falls quickly. “So that one day, I could bring this message and that you would believe it.” You step up to Jake.
“Are you saying you knew this would happen?” You ask, grabbing onto his arm. Neytiri grabs onto his other arm, forcing him to face her.
“You knew this would happen?” She asks, pain evident in her voice.
“Yes.” He says quietly. You step back from him, pain heavy on your heart. It feels as if you have been stabbed. Stabbed by your brother. Jake looks at you and Neytiri frantically. “Look, at first it was just orders, and then everything changed.” He ends the sentence in a whisper, trying to convince Neytiri. “Okay? I fell in love.” He smiles at her. “I fell in love with the…with the forest, and with the Omatikaya people. And with you.” Neytiri’s lips quiver. Jake sets a hand on your shoulder, trying to convince you while he has a hand on her arm. She hits his hand off of her while you just look at him, wondering why he would do this.
“I trusted you,” Neytiri says, voice cracking. “I trusted you!”
“Please,” Jake begs.
“You will never be one of the people!” She screams at him. Jake looks to you for help.
“How could you?” You whisper, taking a step closer to him while Neytiri breaks down in tears. You push him, but he doesn’t budge. “Why would you do this?! Why!” You yell, tears streaming down your cheeks. “I can’t believe you.” You back away now.
“Y/N,” Jake mumbles, trying to reach out to you.
“No! Stop it, Jake! How could you do this?” You ask him desperately. “How could you do this to the People? To Neytiri. To me.” Your voice is barely above a whisper, it sounds hoarse and it hurts to speak with the lump in your throat.
You turn back towards Tsu’tey and he opens his arms for you. You break down into quiet sobs in his arms. You can’t bear the pain of looking back at Jake.
“Please,” Jake begs.
“Bind them,” Eytukan says to Tsu’tey. Tsu’tey lets go of you, pushing Jake to the ground and tying his hands together. You finally look at his face. It’s contorted in pain. And you can’t see your brother in pain so you look at your feet.
“You have to leave!” Grace says. “They’re coming!”
Eytukan shouts and war cry and the warriors follow. You can’t bring it I’m you to do one so you just stand there silently, wiping away your tears.
—
You hear the helicopters before you see them. You’re standing next to Neytiri with your bow in hand.
“Run to the forest!” Jake yells.
“They’re coming!” Grace warns.
Someone lets out a yip, pointing to the metal machines. Everyone stays in place, getting ready to attack as Jake and Grace try to warn everyone.
“Have no fear!” Tsu’tey yells out to the warriors before he turns to you, lowering his tone. “Have no fear.” You nod.
The helicopters land and Eytukan tells Tsu’tey to get the Ikran. He passes you with a hand on your shoulder before running. The machine shoots out smoke bombs, sending them into the tree. Many Na’vi exit coughing as the warriors open fire on the Helicopter. You know arrows will be of no use.
“Jake!” You walk up to his tied-up up screaming form. He looks are you, pleading. “Do you have guns?” You ask him.
Just then, they sent more bombs, but this time they had fire. The tree lights on fire. Screams are heard and you remember Tsu’tey is in the tree. You let out a whimper.
”Get to the forest!” Eytukan yells and everyone runs. Screams are heard but you stay by Jake. You can’t let him get hurt.
“Go, Y/N!” He yells at you as you stay by his side.
“I’m not leaving you.” You grumble, unsheathing your knife. You don’t realize you’re crying till you wipe the heat off your cheeks.
“If you are one of the people,” You put your knife up to his neck. “Then you will help them. Help me.” You beg, cutting his ropes, then Graces. He nods at you.
“This way!” He yells, gesturing for others to follow. You help people get up and follow him. You come across a girl, her injured leg. You pick her up as you run towards the forest.
Bombs land down and you fall from the shock, the girl in your arms screaming. She can’t be more than ten. You pull her behind a log. She’s crying.
“Be brave. I will save you.” You wipe her tears as you pull her face to your chest, stopping her from seeing what is going on. You get knocked over by another blast. “Head down!” You tell the little girl.
The bombs stop falling and you hear a rumble. The breaking of the tree echoes throughout the forest. It’s as if time freezes as the tree slowly falls. The tree is falling your way, and you realize when Jake yells for everyone to run.
“Run!” You tell the little girl as you grab her hand and run with her.
You remember her leg is hurt and put her onto your back, wrapping her small arms around your neck. You hear screams as branches land on the ground. Blood-curdling yells as people are injured. Everyone wails for the loss of Hometree and you fall to the ground, setting the girl beside you as you hug her. She screams too. Everyone is in pain.
You watch in the distance as Jake falls.
“Jake!” You scream, running over to his body. You try to shake him awake. “Jake!” You try to drag him out of Hometree. “Jake, wake up!” You yell at him in frustration, failing to drag him.
“Ma Y/N!” Tsu’tey yells out, running towards you. “Y/N, we have to leave!” Tsu’tey drags you by your arms.
“No, Jake! Jake is still there!” You try and fail to get out of Tsu’teys’ hold.
“Ma Y/N,” he murmurs in your ear, you can barely hear it over your sobs as he follows the People to wherever they’re walking. He cups your face with his hands, forcing you to focus on his face. It’s blurry from the tears but you look at him. “Please stop crying.”
“Jake.” Tsu’tey shakes his head no, you can’t go back for him. You let out a cry of pain, knowing the RDA has him now. You follow Tsu’tey to the spirit tree, but you can’t control your body. He has to drag you there.
You find out that Eytukan has died. Tsu’tey is now Olo’eyktan and you are to be the future Tsahìk.
—
You sit next to Tsu’tey, in front of the clan as they all sing prayer songs. You don’t know the lyrics so you stay quiet, looking down at your four-fingered hand. Suddenly, people are shouting.
You pull Tsu’tey to stand up as you look up. A Ikran is heading towards the People. No, not an Ikran. Toruk. Toruk is heading towards the people.
It lets out a furious roar as it lands and you see its rider. Jake. You let out a sigh of relief at seeing Jake. He jumps off of Toruk and starts heading towards Tsu’tey.
“Toruk Makto?” Mo’at mumbles.
Na’vi step back for him as he makes his way through the crowd. Neytiri steps down and towards Jake.
“I see you.” She says, voice a whisper.
“I see you.” He responds. He puts a hand on her cheek, cupping it.
“I was afraid, Jake. For my people.” She closes her eyes. “Not anymore.” He smiles at her before looking at you and Tsu’tey. He steps up towards Tsu’tey.
“Tsu’tey, son of Ateyo, I stand before you,” Jake says as he steps closer. “Ready to serve the people,” he continues. “You’re Olo’eyktan and you’re a great warrior.” He says in English. “I can’t do this without you.”
Tsu’tey takes a moment to ponder. Toruk lets out a growl in the background and he realizes that Hake is Toruk Makto. Jake can help the People win the war. Jake can help save them. Save you. Tsu’tey glances at you before talking.
“Toruk Makto,” he says, looking Jake in the eye. He sighs and places a hand over his heart. “I will fly with you.”
Jake looks relieved. “My friend is dying.” He looks at Mo’at. “Grace is dying. I beg the help of Eywa.”
—
Grace has died. The consciousness transfer didn’t work. Now the Omatikaya must prepare for war. Other warriors are going out to get other clans to join.
—
You approached Jake who was getting his hair done by Neytiri for the upcoming battle. He just became Toruk Makto, and you couldn’t be prouder. He sees you approaching and smiles at you. You stop in front of him and decide you will get right to business.
“You have guns?” You asked him. You were better at shooting a gun than shooting a bow and arrow. You need a gun.
“Are you sure?” That is what he decided to respond with. You rolled your eyes at him, flicking his head. “Ow!” He exclaimed, exaggerating. He brought his hand up to rub his forehead.
“Jake Sully, give me some fucking guns.” You put your hands on your hips to show that you were serious.
“Give me guns.” He repeated in a higher-pitched voice, mocking you. You took a deep breath in, begging Eywa for the strength to handle your stupid brother.
“Jake.” You looked into his eyes, showing you were very serious. You had a stare-off before he relented, holding his hands up in surrender.
“Fine! Fine, I will give you some damn guns. Happy now?” He said, handing you a few guns, a vest, and some bullets. You smiled at him.
“I am very happy.” You joked. “I am American before I am Omatikayan.” You inspected the few guns he handed you. One was a pistol, fully loaded and cleaned. The next was an AK-47. Clean and loaded. You checked the vest which had bullets and some explosives.
Jake laughed at you before his hair was pulled by Neytiri and he straightened his back out.
“This is why I love you, Jake,” you said, patting the top of his head, to which you earned an annoyed grunt from Neytiri. “You always give me more than I ask for. This,” you held up the supplies. “Is good. Anyway, I’ll see you later, penis-face. Bye Neytiri.” You winked at her before going back to the hut where your mate, Tsu’tey was.
You crouched down beside him, placing your supplies by your feet. Tsu’tey smiled when he noticed you and went back to sharpening his arrows.
“I got some guns.” You said in a sing-song voice. Tsu’tey laughed at your antics, placing down his arrows so he could look at you.
“What are these?” He points to the items in front of you.
“Well,” you take in a breath ready to explain everything. You point towards the guns. Specifically the pistol. “These are my children, I’m gonna name him…Tsu’tey Jr.” You nod your head and point towards the AK-47, “And this big guy is gonna be Y/N Jr. Yes, perfect name.” You decide.
“Why do I not get to be the big one?” He asks in a pseudo-whiny tone. You rolled your eyes again.
“Because they’re my guns, duh.” You think for a moment. They’re Jake's guns, more importantly, the RDA’s guns. But, they’re yours now. “They’re the mighty Toruk Maktos guns.” You say mockingly. It was in your blood to make fun of your brother. Tsu’tey smiled at your taunting, he loved making fun of Jake with you.
“I guess it is right that the small one is named after me.” He shrugs, feigning nonchalance as he goes back to sharpening his arrows. “But, you are going to need to improve your naming skills for when we have children.”
He was so casual about it that you barely caught it, but you did. You froze. You didn’t think about children. Yes, you wanted to have them, but you hadn’t been thinking about them when you mated with Tsu’tey. Maybe you’re pregnant now. You shook off those thoughts. You would be glad to have Tsu’tey’s children.
“Oh yeah?” You asked and Tsu’tey nodded. “What would we name them then?” Though your tone was light-hearted, you were serious about the names. Tsu’tey lifted his head to look at you. He tilted his head in thought, smiling.
“Well, we cannot name them any vrrtep names.” You clutched your chest in mock shock.
“I would never!” You whisper-yell, trying hard not to laugh. “Maybe if you have so little faith in me, you can name them.” You hummed.
“No, never.” He placed a hand on your thigh, rubbing soothing strokes. “We must decide together.”
“I think we should name a boy…Jake!” He looked at you with a deadpanned look. You rolled your eyes again. “Okay, tough crowd. Damn.” You muttered.
“I think for a boy Xayo is good.” He said after a moment of thinking.
“Xayo.” You repeated to yourself in a whisper. “I like that.” You told him. “For a girl, I would like Anna. But, it’s a demon name so you probably won’t like it.”
“No,” Tsu’tey says immediately. “I do like it. Anna is interesting but it sounds good.” He affirmed.
“Then it’s decided. Xayo and Anna.”
You smile at him. It’s bittersweet planning a future you and Tsu’tey might not have.

—
You remember running and running through the green trees, hopping on and off branches, passing by the colorful fruits and animals. You were running from something.
At the time, you couldn’t remember why you were running. You just saw blue Na’vi chasing you and you ran. Ran as fast as you could.
Now, when you look back at those memories, you realize you were running from the RDA. The assholes who turned blue and think they own the forest.
They caught up to you eventually. You were only human, you had gotten tired. They kidnapped you. They took you just because you were human. They thought you knew about Toruk Makto. You have heard of Jake Sully, but have never seen him. You’re from the Olangi clan, how the hell would you have seen him? Another thing the RDA is, is dumb as fuck.
When you awoke, you were in a white room, one bed, too many bright fucking lights, and yourself. Just you, by yourself. You were yelling, freaking out. You were scared. You still are scared. But, you hid it better now. They interrogated you with this weird machine, hurt like a bitch. It sounds like around your head, they said you could see your thoughts. It made your nose bleed. When they figured you didn’t know shit, they still decided to keep you.
So, now you’re here, just drawing for days. Doing nothing. You lost track of time a while ago. You know it’s been a few months. You still talk to the fe Avatars every day, but you feel as if you’re going crazy.
When the door slammed open, you jumped. Qauritch was there, adding a new bed, and a new human. You didn’t move towards the boy, you just watched Qauritch place him in here and leave.
“Dick.” You muttered as he made his way out. You always found a way to insult them when their backs were turned.
When he left, you got up from your bed and inspected the boy closely. He had blue paint in the shape of Na’vi stripes across his body. He was wearing a tweng just like you. Maybe he is from another clan? He had a full head of dreads, covering part of his face. He was handsome. Really handsome. You blushed when you thought of him as handsome. Maybe you could draw him. You already drew everything in this room. Yes! That’s what you will do, draw him.
So for the next few hours, you drew him sleeping. He looked upset even in sleep. Like something was troubling him. Okay, maybe something was troubling him. He was just kidnapped probably. You were almost done when he awoke. He didn’t notice you as he started pounding on the glass, cursing out the RDA in Na’vi. You barked out a laugh.
“You really know how to cuss, huh?” You asked him in English. He was jumped, startled by your presence.
“Who are you?” He asked suspiciously.
“Relax.” You rolled your eyes at his suspicion. “Some blue assholes took me here.” You looked at the camera. “You brought another one?” You yelled out. “Thanks a fucking lot! Fuck me!” You exclaimed.
“Who are you?” He asked again, this time his tone was a bit aggravated.
“Talk in Na’vi, they are watching.” You pointed to the camera, and he nodded in understanding. Then you said in English, “Qauritch happened. Fuck you RDA!” You told the camera.
“I’m from the Olangi Clan, what about you?” You asked him as he sat down on his bed, staring into the distance.
“Omatikaya.” He mumbled.
A look of realization crossed your face. “Ah, I understand now. Jake Sully is why you are here.”
“Yep.” He said, his American accent obvious. You have a more Na’vi accent from only growing up around one or two humans. And they both spoke perfect Na’vi.
“Well, we should be friends. We good humans have to stick together.” You smiled, happy to be finally talking to someone your age rather than the science freaks or avatar dick heads. “Also I’m Y/N.”
“Spider.” He uttered, You smiled at the name. It was weird but from what you have seen of him, it looked fitting.
You held out your hand to shake his, a form of friendship you had learned from your adopted human parents. He grinned, shaking your hand enthusiastically.
Then, the doors opened and he was dragged out by Qauritch. Your protests were loud, but not heard as he closed the door behind him.

Hey! hope you’re doing great 💙
i’d like to request a romantic one shot with a female reader who’s really bad at socializing and has these quirky little behaviors and ideas that make people think she’s kind of a freak. Except neteyam, who actually finds that super endearing and interesting. He starts paying a lot of attention to her, and soon realizes she’s not as bad as everyone says, she’s just different, and that is what draws him in.
That attention only makes her spiral, thinking things like, “is there something wrong with my hair?” or “do i look bad today?” and overthinking everything.
basically, i’d love to see the “golden boy” everyone looks up to being genuinely drawn to someone a little strange, the complete opposite of him, and the kind of person everyone else sees as an bad example.
Thank you for your time. It’s totally okay if you don’t accept the request.💙

Pairing: neteyam x fem!reader
Summary: Neteyam finds you a bit strange, but also very interesting. And pretty.
Warnings: mentions of bullying, reader is an odd gal
Word count: 1.5k
Read time: 4m
—
When Neteyam first arrived at Awa’atlu he was scared. Very scared. Of course, he didn’t let his family see that. He needed to be strong for his brother and sisters. For everyone. He knew he would miss home but he tried to stay positive.
But, just like in the forest, Awa’atlu had bullies. They were inevitable. So, when Ao’nung took to bullying his family, he took the high road. He didn’t fight Ao’nung, except that one time with Lo’ak, but that was it! He stayed peaceful. And he guessed it paid off when his bully became his friend. Ao’nung was his friend now.
They had a little group. It consisted of him, Lo’ak, Kiri, Ao’nung, Tsireya, Rotxo, and occasionally Tuk. It was fun. They hung out. They gossiped. They were kind to each other. They had fun with each other.
So, that was how he found himself at a party with his new friend group. He wasn’t having fun. He never really had fun at parties or get-togethers. He preferred quiet. And it seemed you did, too.
He saw you, sitting by yourself, smiling happily while you drew something in the sand. Next to your drawing was a tower of shells, intricately stacked so it wouldn’t fall. After you were done with whatever you were drawing, you began to take a shell from the stack and place it on top of the drawing. Or maybe it was a map? Who knew. He watched as you continued to grab shells and place them back down in the sand.
“Who’re staring at?” Lo’ak asked suddenly from beside him. He cast a glance at Lo’ak, removing his eyes from you. It was obvious Lo’ak was trying to tease him from the way his lips were quirked and the rise of his brows. When he noticed the other teenagers' eyes on him, he decided to answer. He nodded his head to you.
“I was wondering what she was doing.” He told them, still studying your giddy form as you made another intricate shell tower.
“Oh, her,” Ao’nung started across from him. He had an evil smile on his face as he looked at you. “She is a, what do you call it? Oh!” He snapped his fingers in excitement. “A weirdo. People call her a weirdo.”
“That’s mean,” Kiri said, her brows furrowed in annoyance at Ao’nung. “Why would they call her that?” She asked.
“Because she is alone all the time,” Rotxo contemplated continuing, pausing for a few seconds before deciding to speak. “She acts very…strange. She has no friends.”
“Maybe we can be her friends!” Tuk jumps up and down in her seat at the thought of a new friend. Right, Neteyam forgot they brought Tuk.
“Yeah, we should!” Lo’ak agreed before getting up, motioning for everyone else to get up too.
“That is nice Lo’ak, but I do not think she likes having friends,” Tsireya said, her face so endearing and sweet. Neteyam liked Tsireya the most. He was kind. Kinder than any Na’vi he had met. They were best friends. They understood each other.
“Nonsense, who doesn’t like friends?” Lo’ak’s question was rhetorical but everyone looked at Neteyam pointedly.
“What? I’m friends with you all.” He motioned to the group as Lo’ak pulled him up.
“Yeah, but you did not like becoming our friend. Or socializing. We had to drag you here.” Ao’nung said as, he too, was pulled up by Tuk and Lo’ak.
The group cautiously made their way towards you. You, who was still oblivious to their sauntering forms. You, who laughed at nothing in particular. You just laughed as if something was funny. Ao’nung looked at everyone with a look that said ‘see what I mean’ when you laughed. Neteyam thought it was cute.
Tuk made it to you first.
“Hey!” Tuk exclaimed, waving her hands quickly. You looked up at the group, suddenly looking nervous. Your ears pulled back and your cheeks were tinted a light purple hue. Barely noticeable, but Neteyam caught it.
“Oh…hi?” You said it more as a question, looking down at your shells and placing them back in your bag. “Sorry, were you guys going to sit here? That is my fault, I will move.” You started to get up when Lo’ak interrupted you.
“No!” He yelled, but too loudly and quickly corrected himself. “No, we came to sit with you, silly.” He smiled at you and motioned for everyone to sit down. They sat in a circle, Neteyam sitting on one side of you and Tuk on the other.
“Oh, okay.” You laughed nervously, pouring out your shells and starting to stack them again.
“What are you doing?” Tuk asked curiously, leaning over your arm to watch you stack the seashells.
“I am making a seashell tower.” You looked up to see that everyone just had questioning faces. Not rude. You looked down and smiled sheepishly. “For my friends.” You explained, voice quiet and nervous.
“What friends?” Neteyam questioned, not trying to be rude but it sounded very disrespectful. Kiri smacked him on the back of his head. “I’m sorry, I did not mean it rudely.” He rubbed the back of his neck. You pulled out two stick figures from your bag. You held them up to the group.
“My friends.” You showed them. “This one,” you pointed to the largest one, the sticks were kept together by a thread and it had a few small beads as a top and rope as the bottom. “Her name is Aru’na, and this one,” you held up the smallest one, which looked similar to Aru’na but it didn’t have a top. “His name is Zei’tu.” You placed them in the sand and continued stacking.
Neteyam thought it was sweet how you made stick figures and named them. He smiled a little and looked at his friends, who were sending each other nervous looks. They knew why everyone called you a weirdo now. You were weird, but not unkind or unfriendly. You were just in your world.
“And they like seashell homes so that is why I am building one.” You stated plainly, not looking up at any of them.
“Cool!” Tuk dragged out the word and scooted closer to you. “Can I help build them a home?” She picked Aru’na up and inspected it closely.
“Hm,” You thought for a moment before looking down at Tuk. “Sure.” You shrugged nonchalantly. You pointed to your imprint in the sand. “This is the outline of the home, so place seashells here.”
You and Tuk continued to play. The teenagers got bored after a while and Neteyam assured them that he would watch Tuk. He watched as you slowly warmed up to Tuk, you looked happy. You were so kind. You weren’t a weirdo. You were a little strange but it made you interesting. Way more interesting than any other person he has ever met. You had a big smile that lit up your entire face. You were beautiful. There was absolutely no doubt. But, you looked even more majestic smiling. When Neteyam looked at the falling sun, he knew it was time to head home.
“Okay Tuk, time to go home.” She whined a little before relenting and raising her arms to be carried by Neteyam. He picked her up and looked back at you. “Hey, do you want to be friends?” He asked, uncertain if you would say yes or not. Your smile widened. You looked at him as if he had just given you the best gift in the world.
“Yes! I would love to!” You giggled happily, hand coming up to cover your face. Neteyam grinned, fangs showing, at your giggle. It was music to his ears.
“Okay, I will see you tomorrow then.”
“Tomorrow.” You affirmed, your eyes twinkling with happiness.
—
When you thought about it overnight, you realized he was probably pitying you. When he first looked at you, you thought maybe you had something in your hair or in your teeth. You checked both, but there was nothing. He just continued to stare as you played with your seashells. Just hanging out with you because you have no friends. It made you sad but you decided you would just break things off then and there.
Neteyam was handsome. Very handsome. But he was also kind. Way too kind. You could see it in his eyes. You have had a tiny crush on him since he arrived. He was seen as weird, you are seen as weird. He’s not weird to you though. And the other Metkayina learned that.
Neteyam found you by the shore the next morning.
“Hey.” He said, sitting down next to you in a criss-cross position.
“You do not have to be friends with me out of pity.” You couldn’t look at his face, you couldn’t look and possibly see pity in his eyes.
“Hey, look at me,” When you didn’t, he put both his hands on your cheeks, forcing you to look at him. “Look at me.” He said sternly. “I am not friends with you out of pity. You seem like a kind and interesting person.” A shy smile grew on his lips. “And you are very pretty.”
Heat rose to your cheeks and ears. You looked away from his eyes but you couldn’t move your face as he was still holding it. You melted into his touch. Maybe Neteyam wouldn’t be just a friend, he’d be something more.

—
You spent all of last night on this, barely getting any sleep. You redid it multiple times to make sure it was perfect. It's an armband made of dry seaweed, adorned with blue, white, and green shells—the colors Ao'nung wears the most.
You planned to give it to him when you found him alone. And you finally did! You were so excited. You have liked him ever since you could remember and now you are acting on those feelings. You finally built up the courage to give him something and hint at it being a romantic gesture.
You weren't brave enough to admit your feelings to him outright, so you thought this would do the trick.
Ao'nung was currently sitting outside of his family's marui. He was doing something with his hands that you could not see. You assumed he was making something. But, he was sitting all alone so you decided to approach him.
"Hi, Ao'nung," You said, sitting down next to him. He brought his head up and looked at you, smiling.
"Hello, Y/N," Ao'nung said, stopping his hands from his work.
"I made you this." You opened your fisted hand to present the armband that lay on your palm. He took it from your palm and put it in front of his face to inspect it. When he didn't answer you continued, "It is alright if you do not like it, I can make you a new-“
"It is really good." Ao'nung interrupted your rambling "Thank you, Y/N, you are a good friend." Your face dropped, but you quickly formed a tight-lipped smile. You knew this would happen. He doesn't have feelings for you.
"Yeah...right, you are welcome, Ao'nung." You said. He was still smiling and looked at the armband. "Do you need help putting it on?" You asked.
"Yes, please." He placed it back into your hands and presented his bicep to you. You wrapped the armband around his bicep. The muscles rippled, as if reacting to your touch.
You tied the knot and stood up.
"Well, I will see you around." You said, looking down at him. He smiled and nodded. This was the most you had seen him smile, ever. "Bye." You rushed away from his sitting form, a purple hue washing over your cheeks in embarrassment.
He probably didn't get what you were trying to say.
—
Okay, now you are prepared. It has been a week since you gave Ao'nung the armband. You built yourself up to talk to Ao'nung last night while lying on your mat. You went swimming yesterday and found many rocks and seashells, some of which were Ao'nung's eye color. You convinced yourself to give them to him. Maybe add in a little comment about liking him or it being a romantic gesture.
You keep the rocks in your closed palm as you search for Ao'nung. You hope he is not with his friends. He is nice to you, his friends are not. You don't like them anyway. You like Ao'nung and Ao'nung only.
When you find him, he is on his llu with a spear in his hand, searching for fish. You notice that he is still wearing the armband that you made for him around his bicep. You smile to yourself before approaching on your llu.
"Ao'nung," you announce your presence. Ao'nung looks at you and smiles that amazing smile he always gives you when you're around. You love his smile. It is as bright as the sun itself. "Uh, I found these for you." You present the rocks in your hand.
He grabs one out of your hand, inspecting it. That one is his eye color. "That one reminded me of your eyes."
You pointed out to him, then you pointed to a green seashell in your hand. "And this one reminded me of the armband I gave you." You pointed to a rock. "And this one is just one I thought you would like." It's dark blue with black speckles. He takes all of them from your palm, fingers grazing it slightly. You shiver at the touch.
"Thank you, Y/N. These are really cool." His smile widens when he looks at you.
"Uh, yeah, okay, bye." You stutter before your ilu submerges itself into the water.
Next time you will tell him.
—
Now you are going to ask Ao’nung out. Okay, that may be a lie. But you are trying to ask him on a date today. You prayed to the Great Mother earlier today, to ask for him to finally get what you are implying. But his scxawng ass still hasn’t. It has been a few days since you gave Ao’nung the rocks.
You found Ao’nung lying on a rock, looking up into the sky. Thinking about something, maybe planning something. You never know with Ao’nung.
“Hey, Ao’nung.” You come up beside him, sitting in a criss-cross. You smile down at him and he smiles up at you.
“Hello, Y/N.” He says softly, so softly. Maybe he likes you too. And he is just a scxawng who can’t take a message and can’t ask you out.
“I was wondering if you wanted to hang out later.” You tried to seem as nonchalant as possible but you could feel the heart rising up on your cheeks. Ao’nung’s smile turns into a mischievous one.
“Where exactly?” He asks and you shrug.
“Wherever you want to go.” His mischievous smile widens.
“I was planning a prank on Rotxo, if you wanted to join?” He tells you. You see he still has his armband on and one of the rocks—the dark blue one with black specks—is woven into his necklace. Your face breaks out into a grin.
“Yeah! I would love to!” You say excitedly.
“Okay, now I just have to ask my other friends because we will need a lot of help.” You try not to let your smile drop as you listen to him ramble on about the prank. You wanted it to be just you two but he can’t see that. You almost want to scream. Why can’t he understand?
You have to give yourself another talk later that night.
—
Okay, now you were going to admit your feelings for Ao’nung. You were going to tell him. Today. You were nervous but you wanted to get it over with. You couldn’t keep repeating a mantra on and on again. You had to admit your feelings. It was eating at you.
The prank that Ao’nung invited you and his friends to do wasn’t fun. His friends made subtle jabs at you behind Ao’nung’s back. It was exhausting really.
This time, you found Ao’nung outside of his marui again. And again, he was weaving something you could not see. You plopped down beside him, sighing heavily.
“Ao’nung, we need to talk.” You faced him. He looked up at you, his muscles above his eyes furrowing, creating little wrinkles above his nose.
“What is wrong?” He asks, setting the thing he was weaving aside.
“Listen, I know you may not realize it but, I li-” You started but you were quickly interrupted when somebody yelled his name.
“Ao’nung!” Rotxo yelled angrily, covered in a sticky slop. The prank. The prank had found its way to Rotxo and it worked. “Did you do this?” And suddenly all of your confidence was gone. You snuck away while they argued.
—
You were done. You genuinely could not hold in the fact that you liked Ao’nung any longer. You had to do something. You didn’t know what that something was but you had to do it. You stormed out of your marui on a mission.
You walked towards Ao’nung Marui, where you knew he would be, thanks to Tsireya. Suddenly, you stumbled into a strong chest. How could he not get the message? How could he be a scxawng and not get the bug message?!
“Oh! Sorry!” You said, looking up. And there was Ao’nung. Something was in his hands which he quickly hid behind his back. You decided that you were going to do something now. “Sorry for doing this.” You stated quickly.
You grabbed the back of his neck, connecting your lips with his. He froze for a moment, moving his head back. When he stopped the kiss, you realized what you had done. “Oh, uh, sorry,” You dragged your hand down your face before it went limp at your side. “Sorry, I know you probably did not like it. But, I have had feelings for you for forever and I just need to tell you. And I know that was the wrong way-mmph.” Ao’nung stopped your rambling by kissing you.
He was kissing you! You melted into the kiss, and he kissed you back strongly. It was like nothing you have experienced. You put all of your feelings into the kiss. Desperation. Admiration. Love. You put it all into the kiss. His lips were soft as they moved with yours. When you began to get dizzy you pulled back and Ao’nung chased your lips. You laughed as you pushed his face away with your hand.
“I like you, too,” Ao’nung said, his smile growing wider, getting brighter every second. He pulled his hands from behind his back, presenting a necklace to you. “I actually made this for you.”
You grabbed it from him, inspecting it like he did with all of your gifts. It was beautiful. Woven with dried seaweed, it had blue and green shells like the ones you made with Ao’nung’s armband.
“I thought we could match.” He explained, seemingly knowing what you were seeing. “I was coming over to your marui to give this to you and tell you my feelings. I did not know you liked me back.” You scrunched your nose.
“What did you think all the gifts were for?” You asked, looking back up at him. He smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Uh, I do not know, I thought you were being a good friend?” It was like he was questioning himself. You hit the side of his head playfully.
“Skxawng!” You exclaimed, laughing. “Thank you, Ao’nung, it is beautiful.” You cleared your throat before mimicking his voice horribly. “You are a good friend.” His smile dropped.
“I joke! I joke!” You laughed at his face. Suddenly you grasped his hands. “I see you.” You told him. His smile, somehow, grew wider. He connected his forehead to yours, closing his eyes.
“I see you.”

I won’t be weirded out by implied intercourse with aged up characters, especially in Avatar. For example if someone is mated it’s implied they had intercourse. But writing explicit smut for a character we never see as an adult (cough cough neteyam cough cough lo’ak) is fricken weird.
