the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

A life with someone you can say goodbye to is a good life, especially when it hurts so much to say it to them

Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.

“Dazai showing genuine fear and distress” is my favourite Dazai flavour

Higher Places
We exit a steamy subway station and peer up to the crystalline skyscrapers reaching incomprehensible heights
We’ve done it, one thinks, we’ve grazed the heavens with gleaming, mirrored gems
Human achievement has peaked with their towering shimmer
You see all the other skyscrapers around and gasp at just how many times we’ve achieved this feat
Yet
Rain falls on our faces more frequently
and from higher places

Alone
BY EDGAR ALLAN POE
From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were—I have not seen
As others saw—I could not bring
My passions from a common spring—
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow—I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone—
And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone—
Then—in my childhood—in the dawn
Of a most stormy life—was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view—
