The strange story of a backwards-legged doll - box opening

Someone on a bjd discord server I'm part of posted this doll - male, according to the y!j listing - and I felt sorry for the poor backwards-legged thing. Listed as a Volks SD, the doll was unidentifiable without any photos of a headplate, but I took a gamble and won the auction for ¥10100.

I asked on DoA if anyone could identify the sculpt, but because of the overexposed photos, no one was able to identify the doll. Most users agreed that it wasn't a Volks doll at all.

The box back from my proxy - I used Zenmarket with package reinforcement shipped via EMS. The packaging was incredibly sturdy but the postage cost me about as much as the doll.

The Volks box was bigger than I expected, but safe inside its bubble wrap. It still had a very strong resin smell, stronger than any of my other secondhand doll boxes have been.

The doll was too big even for what I'm guessing is a SD13 size box! I asked Zenmarket to open the box they received from the seller and wrap the doll's limbs in bubble wrap - it seems they half-understood the message.

One sad, tall doll, free from bubble wrap! The doll was much bigger than I'd expected, the tallest of my collection (previously my Isao Nanjou at 60cm).

His poor backwards-bent legs! Despite this, he's the kickiest doll I own.

Here he is next to Isao, who looks sadly yellow by comparison.

A better look at his bare head. A DoA member identified him as a Dolk x RS Doll New Evan Girl Version from 2016. It turns out that only 14 of him were ever made, and he was just sitting on y!j with bad photos for a starting price of ¥8000!

Checking the Dolk listing, his wig, shoes, dress and eyes match the listing, confirming he is this version of the doll.

A new wig and a change of eyes, and I started to see the beginning of his character - my MSD Mako's tired dad. I've named him Evander, and he's currently in SD13 clothes as he was much taller than I was expecting! Mako is wearing his default dress here.

SD13 Isao Nanjo 1st box opening

I ordered him from Dolly Teria with my MSD girl, making him my 3rd doll overall. Their boxes came taped together as one mega box with the actual doll boxes wrapped up like this inside.

His box is a bit dented, but considering he’s 19 years old at this point, a bit of wear and tear is to be expected! There’s no tearing or severe damage to the box.

One mummified doll plus wig. If you look carefully at the bottom of the box, you can see where his original fullset shoes disintegrated while still on his feet in storage.

Partially unmummified, but lots of extra protection on his fet, hands, head and torso.

One hand free! Hard to see with the winter overcast light, but his resin has definitely yellowed (not that I mind - it was disclosed in his item description) and he has a faint yellowish scrape on this hand.

Black marks on the feet and legs, most likely from being stored in his pleather boots, which then disintegrated over time. The boots were the only part of his fullset outfit not included, but most of the black pleather belts have also significantly flaked. Curiously, his black pleather jacket and pants are still in excellent condition. I was able to put them both on (but did have to remove his feet and hands to do so) with no damage to the outfit.

There’s an odd texture on his lower torso, particularly near the navel, that I can’t entirely identify. Perhaps sun exposure or old sealant?

One protected head!

Here he is, fully unwrapped. Judging by the database photos I’ve seen, his faceup has blurred a bit around the eyes, but he’s overall in good condition. His eye glue has also been replaced with putty so his eyes can be changed.

2nd hand MSD girl unboxing

Bought her and an SD13 boy from Dolly Teria. They got sent in 2 boxes taped tightly together and it took a while for EMS to get them out of Japan, but they arrived safe!

Here’s both boxes open, safe and secure with extra bubble wrap

Box without tape. A few creases from the folds, but considering the age of her body (single joints so definitely MSD rather than SDM) a bit of wear and tear on the box is to expected

Her little hand. I think I bonded with her straight away because I just sat there and let her hold my finger for a few minutes. Her last owner seems to have put nail polish on her so that’s something I’ll have to figure out how to remove safely

Unwrapped! She’s a bit yellow but I dont mind. Her yellowing is even anyway. She doesn’t sit super well probably because of her body’s age, but she’s got kips in her shoulders and her arms pose well

Head unwrapped and popped an old baby doll shirt on her. Excuse the bad lighting - hastily taken photos in my bedroom because I was excited to unwrap her! Her faceup is in pretty good condition apart from the fading on her right eyebrow. After looking up her headplate on Tenshi no Kishi, it seems she has a SDC Toki (originally male) head on her MSD body. The attitude in the face is what drew me to her :)

And here she is with a wig on next to my Liebe. About 13 years and my 2nd doll :)
