The doors were thrust open again and the room paused in their conversation as many eyes were drawn to see who had entered. Geta’s eyes slid over as well, settling on the young woman standing there.

She was so extravagantly dressed that she gave him immediate pause. Her silk gown was decorated with intricate beading and was the most vibrant shade of fuschia he thought he’d ever seen. She wore many jewels as well, which glittered as she moved down the set of steps.

Geta’s eyes lifted to take in her face. Her lips were painted as vibrantly as her dress, a thing which most Roman women did not choose to do, and her dark eyes glinted fiercely in the lamplight. Her skin, tanned and glowing, appeared flawless. It looked as smooth and polished as the marble beneath their feet.

She was difficult to look away from. How remarkable she was! It was like witnessing a work of art.

Her head was held high and she had her own attendants trailing in behind her. She was obviously a woman of great position.

Geta ran a hand across his mouth as he continued to watch her, intrigued and somewhat fascinated.
