https://rezq.space/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/REZQ-Excerpt-Earth.pdf
Hi everyone
i realised I never posted this here - anyone who has been interested in the worldbuilding and hypertext storytelling I've been doing over at rezq.space may be interested in this excerpt from a longer form story I am working on.
The overall story broadly concerns Thom, a depressive young doglike guy trying to work and live in the dystopian hypercapitalist spacefaring future where gravity is rationed, the value of money pinballs unpredictably from second to second, and patent trolling causes shortages of basic staples. Originally a gig worker for a last-mile space courier based on what was once known as Earth, he becomes a deep space rescue worker by default when the entire business that he was contracting for is bought out and shut down by REZQ, a new breed of ruthlessly profiteering company. REZQ putatively provides recovery services to people whose spacecraft get into trouble in deep space, but they are more controlling, ruthless, and . Alone and untrained aboard the giant empty vessel Angel Fish, can Thom keep his job - and his mind?
This excerpt concerns a short bit of context and scene setting on Thom's home planet (we would know it as Earth, but its name changes according to who happens to be sponsoring it at that time). I'd be really keen for any feedback or thoughts on any element of this. I'd like to continue it but it's obviously early days, and it's always hard for original setting things to find an audience if they don't conform to things that are already wildly popular. Thank you!

Thom trying to overcome a bilious wave of depressive indifference in order to upsell an additional service to a REZQ client. In this case, it’s less about the meagre sales commission, and more about the fact that, just to save a few bucks, the customer is proposing doing a hard vacuum spacewalk from one ship to another without a suit.
Get the background on Thom’s dangerous, scary blue collar space job through 40+ illustrated fiction snapshots at rezq.space!

I designed a poster for my ongoing story/comic, REZQ: DEEP SPACE RECOVERY AND COURIER LOGISTICS.
This is Thom. Formerly a deep-space courier, Thom became a rescue operative by default when his employers, his home and his debts were all bought out and dissolved by REZQ, a spacecraft recovery company formed in a hurry as a tax shelter for its parent corporation.
Working alone and untrained aboard the barely-repurposed cargo ship Angel Fish, he must use an array of dangerous, ill-suited tools to help people in some of the most dangerous situations the galaxy has to offer–assuming they’ve paid their subscription fee, of course.
You can read 40+ illustrated short pieces of fiction about Thom and his hypercapitalist dystopia at rezq.space. Note that the artwork there varies in style and quality – I will be aiming to do a big overhaul according to Thom’s new design in the near future.
If there’s any interest in a print of this, I will look into making one available!

ARTISTS, WRITERS, CODERS, ETC: DAYS’ WORTH OF FREE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TO HELP YOU FOCUS
Er hi folks! Sorry to use this account for this purpose again but Tumblr has totally destroyed my conelrad account.
Since April 2018 I’ve been putting out new music every other week as a podcast called conelcast. It’s specifically aimed at artists, coders, writers, and anyone else who might need music to help them focus.
WHAT IS CONELCAST?
Conelcast is a podcast. Every other week, I (conelrad) release around 40 minutes of brand new original electronic focus/relaxation music, for free.
WHAT’S IT FOR?
Conelcast is to help you focus, relax and/or create. conelcast got started when I realised that many creative friends and listeners of my other music said that they would put my albums on a loop when drawing, writing, coding, or similar. They said that the music was great to help them get into the flow of creating, but that there just wasn’t enough of it. So, I came up with conelcast.
HOW DOES IT HELP?
The tracks are always simple and catchy, but slowly grow and transform over their duration, providing enough background ambiance to help provide a gentle consistency and aid your focus but enough interest that the repetition doesn’t frustrate or bore you. They never have jarring noises or distractions. conelcast is here to support you.
WHAT’S THE MUSIC LIKE?
My music has its own distinctive flavour and style, and I try not to ape other musicians directly. But it would be wrong to say that I have not been inspired by the music of Boards of Canada, Mogwai, Radiohead, Stars of the Lid, Aphex Twin, Autechre, and many other amazing artists.
HOW DO I GET IT?
You can either listen here on the web, or subscribe like with any other podcast by opening up your podcast app (Apple podcasts, Google podcasts, Overcast, Stitcher, Pocketcasts, whatever) and searching for conelcast (or for Apple Podcasts just click here).
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Yes.
YOU WOULD SAY THAT!
OK but there are also dozens of 5-star ratings on iTunes (aggregated with some great reviews on this site). So far, there are 38 full-length episodes available, plus 12 “blips” (short bonus episodes). So if you don’t like one, try another. There’s a good variety of styles.
I WANT TO SUPPORT THIS!
You can support conelcast by joining the conelrad patreon! You can find that right here. You get high-quality versions of every track (there are 38 tracks there already; hours and hours of music), with no intros, stings, or announcements. And you get to know that you’re helping to make conelcast happen.
Even if you don’t think this will help you, PLEASE REBLOG! Help creative people find this podcast :)

Hello everyone. I don't update this much any more but I thought I would share a selection of the awesome commission and gift art of Thom I've received over the past months/years. I have more than this but can only post ten -- I will do another of these posts with some more soon!
For those who don't know, Thom is the main character in my dystopian hypertext comic/story, REZQ.SPACE. He's a depressive contract employee at the ruthless deep space recovery company, REZQ. Alone and untrained above the repurposed cargo ship Angel Fish, and mired in untreated mental illness, to keep his job he must do whatever it takes to save people from some of the most dangerous situations in the galaxy - assuming they've paid their subscription fee, of course.
You can read his story at rezq.space, in the form of 40+ (very) short illustrated fiction snapshots, which can be read in any order. I am also working on a novel about the setting and if you'd like to be kept up to date on that, make sure you join the mailing list at rezq.space.
