Some thoughts about death of Tumblr vs the rise of everything else

Under a cut because honestly I'm just thinking out loud about being old and changing times and it's got me feeling... I think melancholy is too strong a word. Maybe wistful?

Tumblr has been dying for a long, long time, and honestly, it's amazing that it's still here and function, tbh.

I get why TikTok has taken off. It's so easy to digest a thirty second video, hit like, and scroll to the next one. Twitter is kind of the same way.

But one thing I miss about Tumblr is that it used to be a place where there'd be long threads of conversations. Where you'd put up blog posts and reblog with more commentary. I suppose in some ways - Discord has replaced it (though I'd argue Discord has replaced the old forums format).

I don't think there's as much of an audience to actually read what people are saying -- not when they can listen to and watch. Honestly, that's fair, I get it. But I think, as someone who writes -- as someone who really doesn't want to put their voice or face or take the time to edit a video -- I miss what Tumblr was.

Don't get me wrong - there are still active communities on here. Holy goodness - X-Men peeps, you guys are doing alright <3

And really, Tumblr did itself no favors when it really cracked down on NSFW content (I mean, that's why were were here) and the invasion of the porn bots (which, I really don't see much anymore, tbh). Things are always changing.

But I suppose I'll still be here -- typing away until Tumblr ends or I do. Because I love having a place that's like having a little journal.
