Hani (@dawoudi) has not eaten anything for 7 days. For 7 days he has consumed 0 kcal/day. He and his wife are not eating just so their children can eat. He told me that he enjoys seeing his kids eating more. He told me he has lost a lot of weight. I am really worried.

I have been messaging with Hani since last October. I sincerely think that he is one the kindest and most selfless person I have ever had the honour of knowing. Despite his own struggles, Hani founded and has been continuously running @/gazavetters. The @/gazavetters vetted list has been growing rapidly the past few months, a testimony to the hard work of Hani and the gazavetters team, yet Hani's own fundraiser often go for days without donations.

Surviving a genocide is difficult and stressful, to say the very least. What you can see online is just the tip of the iceberg. Everything Hani told me in private just made me admire him more. From him telling me about Darine, his children, @/gazavetters and helping other Palestinians in Gaza, it is evident how much love he has in his heart, love for not only his family but also for strangers he does not even know.

I know he is not going to stop worrying about the people around him, especially his children. I just hope he is also taking care of himself, I just hope that he also gets to eat. But to be able to get food, he needs our support. Please help him buy food in the market so he can eat.

I am Hazem Shawish, and I am trying to save my family from this war.

We live in Gaza, where we face significant challenges due to the current situation.

My family consists of 11 members, including my mother, two daughters, four sons, and three children.

In the shadow of conflict, our family has faced unimaginable hardships. The passing of my father, a victim to the cruel grasp of hunger and inadequate healthcare, left a void in our lives, underscoring the fragility of our existence here. My brother, Samer, battles bipolar disorder, a condition exacerbated by the ongoing war and the severe shortage of essential medications. Without access to the necessary treatment, his life is at risk, and we live in constant fear for his well-being amidst the chaos that surrounds us. These personal tragedies have deepened the urgency of our situation.

Every day is a struggle for survival, and each night is filled with prayers for a brighter tomorrow. We hold onto hope, believing that one day the clouds will dissipate, and we will find the peace we long for.

Our home, which was a sanctuary for us, was destroyed, forcing us to live in a state of uncertainty and fear. We have lost the laughter of our children.

Went to Build-A-Bear Workshop today. My therapist said it’d be good for me, to get me out of the rut I’m in, called it an “exercise in creation.” I held the limp carcass of the bear in my hands for what felt like hours. What was I doing? Who was this bear? Why was it here? Not here, not yet, not quite. Did it want to be? What right did I have to thrust this bear into the cacophony of being without first giving it a purpose? I couldn’t move. Then this kid asked what I was talking about, and I realized I’d been soliloquizing in a sea of children.

“I can’t even think of a name,” I said, staring down at the bear I couldn’t bring myself to make, its black, plastic eyes like currants in a semolina loaf that no one ordered but had shown up anyway.

“How old are you?” the kid asked. I looked at his bear. It was bursting at the seams.

“I think I’m having an existential crisis.”

“I’m ten.”

“Okay.”

“You should name it Trojan.” I was stunned. This kid knew Homer? Then he said, “After the condom your dad should have worn.“ He took the bear out of my hands and threw it at me, like that had been its purpose all along.

Whoever said kids are wise is a liar. Kids are dumb as shit.
