Stolen Light
I have finally finished this little animation which I started working on back in July of 2023 and later postponed due to the lack of time and motivation. Honestly I can’t tell for how long I’ve actually worked on it, maybe a bit less than a year.
Extra thoughts about this project under the cut \/
The main reason for this project was practice and in particular camera work, if I remember correctly. A specific scene came into my mind one day, and I thought: «Screw it, I need to practice animating anyway». I have no «proper» education in this field, but I’ve always been interested in animation, so I’m exploring it on my own whenever I’m able to.
While I was working on this project I realized many things, mostly regarding the overall attitude and stereotypes about the creative process. Not sure why exactly but at that time I was more critical of my process in a way that’s rather unproductive; I started placing unnecessary boundaries and trying to work in a more rigid way that seemed «more correct». Needless to say I’d lose my motivation quickly and become confused and even more dissatisfied with the work. But the important thing is that I’ve realized how unhelpful this attitude was, so now I’m going to keep that in mind.
As for the result: I’m not completely satisfied, of course, but with this project it was truly the process that mattered the most. It was a journey full of discoveries. Besides the psychological things I’ve described earlier I still struggle with clean and confident drawing, as well as stylization. Of course since all of my projects are unprofessional I’m not obligated to follow some rules set by a company or a client, but I realize I still have much to learn in the technical and artistic aspect. Anyway I’m glad I’ve finally completed this vignette, and I hope to continue exploring animation as a creative medium in the future.

Really wanted to make an ЭNA fan art. Fiddled with several more complicated ideas but decided on more of a portrait take in the end, and I'm glad I did. It managed to convey the right mood I imagined in the very beginning.
