Hi there! Call me Lark, a working ranger in the Fiore region. (A Rotomblr/real life pokemon/Pokemon RP account)
Don't wanna be here? Send us removal request.

how safe would it be to get a buneary for a household with a toddler? My daughter has been obsessed with them, and they do seem rather cute, but i've heard stories online about them sending people to hospitals over the smallest things with their ear-punches. are these more isolated cases, or is buneary not good as a pet?
buneary can be great pets, but no, i don't recommend them to families with young children. the problem with these guys is that they're so mistrustful of new people that they tend to be actively hostile until they get to know you. this is why they seem to lash out at tiny things- they're constantly in a heightened state of fear until they become comfortable with their trainer, which means they need to be raised in a calm household by people who know how to approach them safely. their ears can indeed cause a lot of damage, so any small mistake could result in serious injury to a child. this isn't the fault of either the pokemon or the child. it's just a situation where both are set up to fail. it's best to introduce kids to pokemon that are known to be calm and tolerant as they learn how to properly interact with pokemon.
i find that plushies and videos do a great job of helping to tide over kids who really want a pokemon that isn't appropriate for them to have, and i'd also recommend checking if any ranger stations in your area have an ambassador buneary your daughter could meet! it's not uncommon for rangers to have popular but commonly released/surrendered pokemon on hand to help with education, and that would be a safe way for her to see a buneary up close.

do rangers use pokemon captured with the styler for battling a wild agressive pokemon sometimes or that's a no-no in every case?
asking because trainer manuals explain what to do with agressive wild pokémon, and these usually include making sure your own pokemon are up to the level of pokemon on the area you are
it is very rare that a ranger would attempt to use a stylered wild pokemon for traditional battling. it's just not something you should try with a pokemon that you don't know well, because you don't know what that pokemon is capable of. plus, attempting to engage an aggressive pokemon in battle often makes the situation worse and should only be done as a last resort. our stylers are made to calm pokemon down, so our priority is to use them to help the aggressive pokemon settle!
instead of battling with pokemon we styler, we might borrow the energy reading from that pokemon to enhance our styler's capability using what's called a poké assist. borrowing a pokemons bioenergy allows us to temporarily affect how the capture line of a styler works, which is much safer than throwing a random wild pokemon into the fray. if a ranger is absolutely forced to battle against a wild pokemon, they'll typically only do so with a permanent partner pokemon.
honestly, the best way to handle an aggressive wild pokemon is usually not to battle it, whether you're a trainer or a ranger! having a strong pokemon with you will help keep you safe in emergencies, but the safest thing to do unless you're an expert in handling aggressive pokemon is to try to leave the area without engaging with the wild pokemon.

Pokemon Crossbreeds: Diamond-Back
Diamond-Back is the name for members of the Squirtle line whose fathers are Amaura or Aurorus. They get their name from the diamond-like gemstones on their shells.
Squirtle

Diamondback Squirtle gain the sails of Aurorus above their eyes. The breed is recent, and was first bred in captivity. After the mass release of Amaura and Aurorus in the wild, the breed has become more common, but is still incredibly rare. These squirtle can be found in arctic oceans.
Wartortle

My personal favorite of this breed. Diamondback Wartortle gain the traits of Aurora upon evolving. While slower in water due to its body temperature, these wartortle are praised for their beautiful sails. They're very popular for contests.
Blastoise

These Blastoise are bigger than the standard breed and the water they shoot out of their water jets is very cold. Despite their stature, this breed takes the tempermant of Aurorus, and is known to be quite calm.
//My designs can be used by anyone if you credit me for the original design! Also, I'll do charizard at some point, I already have the outlines finished.

Why does my dwebble dig holes in rocks that are too small for her to move into? Sometimes I'll see her just go to town on one way smaller than she is and keep digging holes until it breaks into pebbles. She has plenty of larger rocks to move into if she needs to, and she seems happy with her current one. Is she playing or is she trying to do something?
she's having fun! digging is a pretty common behavior in dwebble, and sometimes pokemon just like breaking things. it's like the dwebble version of a growlithe tearing up a toy.
when dwebble want to use a rock as a home, they don't dig at it. instead, they secrete an acidic liquid from specialized glands in their mouths and drip that into their rock of choice. this helps prevent situations where they accidentally shatter the rock and also helps smooth out the inside so it's more comfortable. if she's digging at a rock, it's because she's having a good time and displaying foraging behaviors! you can even try getting rocks with small pockets in them and hiding little treats in them to encourage her exploration.

Happy pride month everyone!
I'm a proud member of the Rainbow RAG, the ranger advocacy group for LGBTQIAP+ issues. All rags have to be self-funded, and Rainbow Rag survives with member dues. But extra money from donations and fundraisers helps us do things like: -Run/host/organize pride events -Fund peer support groups -Advocate for legal issues -Have a fund to support individuals (like covering name change fees and similar costs for people who would struggle to afford them)
So I hope I don't sound like an advertisement, but check out the pride buttons and other things Rainbow Rag is sending or donate if you can!
//OOC: I just wanted to make fun pride-buttons and this is my in-universe excuse. There is no actual sale/purchase. All art made by me, I will explicitly note in the rare exceptions where I used another source.

► reblog to let your mutuals know that... YOUR RP BLOG IS NOT TIME-SENSITIVE!
...That there is NO time limit or expiration date on asks, memes or threads.
...That your partners NEVER need to feel they have to apologise for not responding to a thread or ask yet.
...That you welcome replies to "OLD" threads and memes, even if they've been sitting quietly untouched for weeks or months.
...That there is NEVER any pressure or obligation for your partners to reply until they feel the drive and enthusiasm to do so.
...That YOU will happily respond to things at YOUR OWN leisure, and you would like your partners to feel comfortable doing the same.
Not everybody enjoys running their blog this way and that's a-okay. But removing the idea that RP interactions are something that can "expire" or that the asks in your inbox have an unspoken "due-date", takes the pressure off of both your partners and yourself and can help bust feelings of stress/anxiety from the hobby. Reblog to let your partners know that you're just jazzed to receive new writing from them, whenever it comes.

Kiddo has been doing bug-type coloring books. He showed me some art of his and asked if there were any purple spinarak (his favorite color), I said kind of! Shiny spinarak could be blue, though some looked more purple-y in areas of Johto.
It took a few weeks of trips to the forest (which was a lot of good practice!) to find this beauty. It has been nicknamed "Cotton candy" for all the pink and blue.

kind of a random q, but how did scientists figure out that friendship could cause/was causing evolutions?
it's been known for a very long time- we have a passage from the roman author pliny the elder describing the close bond formed between riolu and the shepherds that sometimes tamed them, where he writes that the best way to guarantee a riolu's evolution is to take it from its mother and raise it yourself.
as for how we figured out the actual process behind it, a landmark study in the 1980s tested hormone levels in a variety of pokemon in the months leading up to evolution and found that the presence of a high enough level of the bonding hormone oxytocin is what eventually triggers a "friendship" evolution. there have since been a lot of really neat studies on the effects of bonding hormones even in pokemon that don't evolve because of them, and i highly recommend checking some of them out! they're a great way to learn about how to bond with your own pokemon.

So
So people just
Get GIVEN Pokémon?
Like they're objects?
That doesn't sound very nice, nor pleasant for them.
Pokémon are living things, not toys or ornaments! You give gifts, not Pokémon!
