DAWN | CHICKEN SHOP DATE
“What is the meaning behind the lyrics ‘Slow it down, make it bouncy?’ And, could you demonstrate?” A blonde woman asks a dark haired man sitting opposite her. Her head rests in her hand as she watches him intently.
He tries to keep a serious face as she looks at him, but bursts into laughter instead.
The video cuts away to a clip of a colorful felted sign reading ‘Chicken Shop Date’ before cutting back to the pair.
“So… I heard that you’re actually not allowed to date when you’re in a Kpop group… is this, er, is that going to be an issue?” The blonde asks in her usual awkwardness, white text labeling her as ‘Amelia.’
“Well, that’s why this is just a friend date, right?” the man, labeled ‘DAWN,’ responds, attempting to hide a cheeky smile.
“Oh,” Amelia deadpans.
The screen cuts to a clip of the outside of a chicken shop in London, England called Morley’s. The address is listed on the screen as 61-62 Brick Ln, E1 6RF.
“I’m only joking,” Dawn laughs as the video cuts back to him, taking a bite of a chip. “But actually,” he starts through his chewing, “I used to not be able to, cause it was in my contract that I couldn’t date for three years. But, y’know, that’s over now, so…” he raises his eyebrows in her direction.
“Perfect,” Amelia smiles, pleased that she could have a chance after all.
A clip of fried chicken wings sitting in a basket interrupts the video.
“What’s your type then?” Amelia asks as she returns to the screen.
The rapper finishes chewing with a hum as he thinks over his response to the question. “I like… older girls.”
Amelia gestures to herself, making him laugh.
“And I like when girls are smarter than me,” Dawn adds.
“Well…” the blonde begins, thinking up a fact to prove her intelligence. “Did you know that the Brighton Pier uses over 60,000 light bulbs?” she asks, a nod to the English city he went to school in.
“I actually didn’t know that,” he seems surprised. “How did you know that?”
“I’m just… smarter than you, I guess,” she shrugs, self-satisfied.
The video cuts to a close up of a drink fridge, stocked with bottled sodas and waters.
“When are you coming to Korea?” Dawn asks, turning the questions onto the interviewer.
“Oh, I don’t know,” Amelia answers honestly.
“Come back with me,” the man suggests, his tone hinting at cheeky.
Amelia’s cheeks seem to be a bit warmer when the camera cuts back to her. “I’d have to er... check my schedule…”
A clip of a red sign advertising the restaurant takes up the screen, ‘Morley’s’ reads in white script. Underneath it reads ‘MMM… It Tastes Better.’
“You have to try the chicken shops there,” Dawn returns to the screen once more.
“Is it different?” the woman asks, tossing a chip into her mouth.
“Better,” he nods.
Amelia raises her eyebrows in a casual kind of surprise. “Do they have chicken nuggets?”
“Usually it's like, wings, but I reckon there are shops that have nuggets. Some places have like, the boneless kind which is like the same thing,” he explains. “Do you like spicy food?”
“Oh no, I can’t do spicy food,” Amelia shakes her head, laying her crossed arms on the table.
“Well… there’s some not spicy kinds, too,” Dawn concedes.
A clip of a basket of chips being dipped into the bubbling golden bath of a deep fryer interrupts.
“In your song 'Golden Hour,'" Amelia begins between bites of a chicken nugget.
“Yeah?” the interviewee interjects.
“You say that you’re calling Gordon Ramsay. Do you… personally know Gordon?” she asks, shaped brows knit together in curiosity.
He laughs, a deep sound from his chest. “No, I don’t. Sadly. I feel like he could teach me a lot,” he notes, picking up a chip from the box in front of him.
“Yeah, you did say you don’t know how to make eggs,” Amelia gives him a look as if she would be embarrassed if she were him.
“True,” he chuckles, gesturing at her with the chip between his fingers.
A stack of cardboard boxes with the Morely’s logo, similar to the ones holding the chicken and chips in front of the pair, fills the screen.
“So you like to dance?” Amelia asks him. She has a serious tone, but the joke is hidden in the fact that he is professionally known as a dancer.
“Yeah,” he grins, catching on. “Yeah, I love to dance. Do you like to dance?”
“Love it,” she responds, tone still completely serious.
“Love it,” Dawn repeats with a nod, a smile still across his lips.
“I’ve actually learned one of your dances,” she says matter-of-factly.
“Have you?” the smile on his face seems to grow.
“Yeah.”
“Show me,” he requests, gesturing for her to give it a go.
Amelia holds her arms out in front of her, her shoulders moving back and down repeatedly, mimicking the choreography to Phoenix’s newest song ‘Bouncy.’
“Ooooh!” he exclaims, clapping. “That’s perfect!”
“Yeah?” she hasn’t broken her serious persona once.
“Oh yeah, you killed it. Want me to teach you some more?” he offers.
The video cuts to a clip of a Morley’s menu on the wall, white with black text and red accents. Different types of fried chicken meals are listed, each for only a few pounds.
When the camera returns to the pair, they’re standing in front of the table they were formerly eating at, Dawn showing her some of the choreography from his solo song ‘Golden Hour.’ Amelia is trying her best to copy his motions, but her movements don’t carry the same easy fluidity as his.
“Yeah, you’ve got it!” Dawn, cheers her on as she performs what he’s taught her for him.
She finally breaks character, a slightly embarrassed grin breaking onto her face. “Really? Am I good enough to join Phoenix?”
He blanches, laughing after a second of hesitation. “Yeah… I should get you an audition.”
The camera cuts to chips frying in the golden oil of the deep fryer, perhaps the same seen being submerged earlier.
“I heard your sister is also a Kpop idol?” they have returned to their seats at the table at this point.
“Yeah, I have three sisters actually, but the oldest, Daisy, she is.” Dawn nods. He always seems lighter when discussing his sisters.
“Love her. Braheheart in your area,” Amelia sings in the tone of the group’s signature phrase.
“Exactly,” he laughs, trying to hide it under his hand.
“But you and her got rich and famous, so are your other sisters like… what the hell?” she gestures along with her words, waving a chip through the air.
“I don’t think they’re that hurt by it. I will say, they are still pretty rich,” he chuckles.
“So, what I’m hearing is, marry you for the money?” Amelia deadpans.
A Morley’s ad picturing two people enjoying a tray of fried chicken, parallelling the interview fills the screen.
“My sister says that I should stop dating rappers. I do have… a lot of exes that are rappers,” Amelia sighs when the camera returns to focus on her. “But would you say Kpop rappers are different? Like, better for dating?”
“I would say I’m better for dating,” Dawn answers with a grin.
“But not others?”
“Are you trying to date other Kpop rappers?” he asks incredulously, but teasing.
“No… just you,” Amelia answers, though unconvincing. She looks straight at the camera as if to tell the viewers she’s lying.
The colorful felt returns, felted hearts surrounding the ‘Chicken Shop Date.’
The camera returns to the pair, Amelia still attempting to complete the choreography he taught her, Dawn watching as he tries to hide his amused smile behind his hand. The video cuts away to a thumbnail advertising the previous interview in the series and a line of merchandise to match.
#ੈ♡˳ solo#something silly for 1 year of dawn!!!!!#i have been thinking about this concept for so long you have no idea

"c'mon.." he pouted, unsatisfied by the short kiss she pressed to his lips. "what have i done to deserve this, baby?" he pulled out the pet name partly because he liked trying it out, but also because he hoped it would make her blush. he needed a win against her relentless teasing. his gentle hand found her face, a finger under her chin tilting her head up in his direction. they were so close, he could steal the kiss he sought after if he wanted, but he didn't want this game to end.
water droplets glistened on her skin as dawn studied her face, the ghost of an amused smile on his lips. it reminded him of how she looked on stage, so carefree, shining water droplets flying from her hair as she danced. the sun lighting her up almost as much as the smile donned on her face. "you're beautiful," he whispered, as if it was a secret to be shared. but really, he'd shout it from the rooftops if he could.
her smile was smooth as he relented to her tactics. it was a dirty trick. they hadn't gone far, hell, they barely took a step off the front porch in terms of things...less safe for work. the most she allowed them was some fierce making out that usually left her much too flustered to continue. but the longer they spent together the more she became comfortable with the idea. she felt a twist in her stomach as despserately chased her lips down, giggling the entire time he backed her into the wall as if she'd done nothing wrong.
"i'm sorry....not." umeko teased, throwing her arms around his neck and pulling him close again. "here." another mean move, she gave him simply a soft peck, pulling away quickly even though she tugged him towards her, her back finally settling against the cool metal.

"let's go," he nodded in the direction of her apartment, holding a hand out to help her up. dawn had always had a protective streak when it came to the people he loved. if cassie didn't feel safe in her own apartment, he wanted to fix it. and possibly hand it to anyone who would've tried breaking in.
at the same time, as they made the walk up to her place, he was getting more and more anxious. he didn't believe in ghosts, but he still hated stuff like this. what if there actually was someone in there? he could take them, he reassured himself. what if they had a weapon? he'd grab one too. he always had more of a 'fight' instinct anyway. the company didn't try putting him in haunted houses anymore because he accidentally swung on an actor once. "hey can i borrow a knife?" he asked suddenly. "in case uh, y'know, the ghost tries it with me," he sounded dumb saying it that way, but didn't want to freak her out by suggesting it could've been a real intruder.
❥.
rin looked up incredulously, the mere thought of willingly call in a ghost in her apartment was appalling in her opinion. “i did not invite them in, it was definitely an intruder.” she huffed, though her tone held no heat. as if she could ever be upset at dawn. . or any of her friends, really. in her eyes, they could do no wrong like taking the last of her snacks or losing one of her favorite rings, anything other than being a shadow apparition hogging her bathroom with its spookiness.
the next look directed at him was hopeful, eyes wide with a wetness to them that lingered after seeing said intruder. “can you please?” rin asked, getting to her feet and dusting off the back of her sweats. “maybe they’ll listen to you better than me.”

dawn followed yehyun's lead, immediately falling into a squat, leaning his hands on his knees. "we're almost done, right?" he asked, almost breathless and almost as if it was an encouragement. he did not want to sound like he was whining, afraid of losing any professionalism, especially in front of hyun. but god, he was winded. the other guy had to be feeling it to, right? not a single idol was as invincible as they were supposed to be portrayed. forever upbeat and infinite in stamina. to his own credit, that's what dawn tried his hardest to be, but even he can only go on for so long.
he gratefully accepted a hand held fan from a staff member as she blotted sweat from his face with a tissue. looking perfect couldn't go on forever either. eventually they'd look too shiny or too red, even though you'd think that's how anyone would look at a party. "so, should we just keep doing what we're doing? or do you wanna maybe add something like.. i don't know, like a handshake or something?" he suggested to the elder.
"come on," an implicit 'we got this.' was he telling dawn or telling himself?
yehyun was only a few years older than the rapper, but his wellbeing still seemed to fall into his hands; as much as he hated everything related to hierarchy, this kid was still his responsibility. both dawn and yehyun were seasoned – they knew what came with filming for a music video – but that didn't make it any easier, especially not one with high energy like this. at least while filming with the rest of their group members, there was more time for random breaks here and there. this, though? this was just them, the music, and fifty or so extras.
neon LEDs meshed together as his eyes bounced around in his skull. sooner or later, yehyun swore that his legs would fall out from underneath of him (jumping for so long had caused them to go numb). but he was hanging on. at least looking into the camera meant he could attempt to guage the expression of the director. and when he saw his hand slowly lift to cut the scene, yehyun's excitement grew.
"STOP!" the older man's fist spread out, halting filming. "take five; the back-up dancer in green's shirt ripped. costume, get her something new to wear," some staff rushed past and yehyun sat right where he stood.

his arm held high faltered in it's position as his lips melted in to hers. it was a feeling he would never tire of, the feeling that the whole world would slip away around them. the only two in the universe, daesung and umeko. the sound that emanated from her throat successfully caught him off guard, sending blood rushing straight to his head... and other places. he relinquished his arm to her hold, defeated, but not yet releasing his grip on her confiscated weapon. "nooo, don't do that to me, noona," he groaned, "that's just dirty." his lips still sought after hers, refusing to let her untangle herself from his hold just yet. perhaps not the best or most hidden make out spot with an entire music festival only bounds away, but at this point he was determined to make it work, slowly backing them up towards the side of an empty trailer.
ʚɞ
she couldn't even hold back her hysterical laughter at his acting, not surprised at all that he snatched her right back up as punishment. "that was your first mistake, you trust no one." umeko said mocking his accent as if they were a medieval duo, warring with each other after betrayal. she let him pull her close, her exposed stomach pressed against the wet fabric that covered the divots of his muscles. there were those thoughts swimming through her head again, ones that brought on the glint that was in her eyes as they cascaded up to his handsome mug. "damn, you got me." umeko teased, she leaned up, capturing his thick tiers a slow kiss, but not for her own entertainment, though she pushed a soft moan from her lips to stun her target, but it served as a distraction so she could lift her hand grabbing his wrist and yanking it down harshly to get him to dislodge the colorful weapon. "sike."

dawn sent a simple 'ok' finger emoji in response to his eldest sister's agreement before heading the short distance toward braveheart's building. texting deiji a quick 'here' as he arrived, he sat patiently in the shadowed drive nearby for her to pop in to her rightly earned passenger princess throne. as he waited, he scrolled through his music, contemplating his karaoke set list for the night. in a family of performers, a night like this was taken rather seriously until they had each gotten drunk enough to fall slightly out of tune. as the designated driver for the night however, dawn was planning on scoring 100% across the board all night long.
"took you long enough," dawn instantly complained as the door opened. while it really wasn't that long of a wait at all, it was baby brother duty to whine about how long it took his sisters to get ready. even if, realistically, he could take even longer at times. he handed the eldest his phone for aux privileges and to be designated communicator as he pulled out to make their way to the hwang estate, "can you tell them we're on our way so we can sneak out before eomma tries to drag me inside?" he loved his mother, he was her baby after all, but tonight was a sibling's night out. if she had it her way, he'd never make it down the driveway again.
♡
combing through the massive closet, she searched for something slightly comfy but still just as fabulous as her usual need to be the most fashionable in the room. the denim skirt was her easy go to and made finding a top and jacket easy. as she quickly did some make up for the night she texted a cheeky invite to her sisters in their separate chat from the one with all four of them, not shocked at the quick reply that they were getting ready.
the twins were sometimes much more easy going than herself and she wondered why she hadn't got that trait that seemed to trickle down to the younger three. but something in her was telling her to let go a bit for the night with her siblings. reading over dae-sung's message she replied, 'of course, the twins are coming.'
after getting dressed she fanned the blow dryer through her fading lavender strands, opting to make the maknae of their family tote all three of them around. 'yeah, we're gonna grab the girls too so make room.' she all but ordered, making her rounds in the dorm to tell her pseudo-sisters goodnight and that she was leaving.

dawn laughed as he chased her behind trailers and stalls, away from prying eyes. all day he had been longing to have her in his arms, finding it nearly impossible to keep away from her when she looked that good. seeing her rocking the stage all alone only skyrocketed that desire, he couldn't seem to pull his eyes away from her as she performed and he was really hoping no one was watching him too closely.
now, in their stolen time away, he grinned as he watched the water balloon he launched in her direction break open on ume's wet skin. he couldn't hold in the joyous laugh as her body met his. he wrapped his arms around her as she held on to his back to keep his balance, until.. betrayal. dawn's hand found the wet patch on the back of his head with a gasp, spinning around to face the culprit. "how could you?" he asked, attempting to feign seriousness until lunging at her, one hand wrapped around the small of her back with the other trying to wrench the water gun away from her. "i trusted you!" he laughed holding her tight against him so she couldn't slip away. leaning in to spread kisses all over her face, he took the distraction to pull the brightly colored plastic gun from her grip and hold it high above her head.
letting go { ʚɞ } // @rising-dawn
laughter bubbled up in her throat as she felt the cold splash from his balloon. she'd dragged him off for some well needed alone time. maybe she was just being selfish, the high of singing all on her own with the boy who forced those words from her pen. seeing his glittering eyes beneath his wet strands looking up at her the same way they always did.
"how dare you!" she teased, running up behind him and practically tackling him over, the wet fabric of both of their clothes freezing between their warm bodies but all umeko could do is throw her head back in joy. their usual moments together were quieter even though he was usually running around behind her as she searched from her next adventure. but this time they hid away, stealing kisses and touching each others skin in between the various sprays of balloons and water guns. she pretended to be sweet, placing her palms on the exposed parts of his chest to have him trust her before she pulled away and sprayed him execution style with the water gun, leaving a drenched patch in the back of his dark hair. "sucker."

"always," he conceded with a small, teasing smile. "next you have to teach me 'how to be like umeko 101'," he joked, his hand finding the gear shift but longing to reach further for the top of her leg instead. the skin peaking out of the slit in her skirt was a distraction he fought to keep from his peripheral, not wanting to put either of them in danger at the wheel. "thank you, ume," he beamed, compliments from her never failing to light him up, gas to an open flame.
he had been so nervous on the way here, constantly pulling on the hem of his shirt and oh so painstakingly ordering songs that he thought she might like into a far too long queue for a 20 minute ride. but now that she sat here next to him, much of that worry was put at ease. she had that kind of effect on him, making him feel comfortable and relaxed like being in nature on a nice day or a warm blanket. although umeko had an uncanny ability to make his heart pound, it wasn't adrenaline or nerves pumping through it making him jittery or afraid.
"i hope you like this place," dawn admitted, a vulnerability peaking through. he hadn't revealed all of his plans, wanting to surprise her with something both fun and thoughtful. and her love of art and ceramics led him to the perfect place, a studio just outside the city with private sessions. not even glancing at the price tag, he had booked it as soon as he saw it. before he had even asked her to come on this date at all. did she know it was a date? a real one? he had hoped the message had come across well enough and was simultaneously praying the romantic ambiance of this place sent the idea home.
rising-dawn:
♡.
watching her emerge from the gate, descending the steps before him all dark, shaggy hair and silky, flowing sleeves, he was reminded of why he was so nervous in the first place. her beauty sent his heart palpitating and surely if he could look in a mirror at that very moment he would see intoxicated heart eyes staring back at him. he couldn’t keep his view from slipping to the slit settled near the top of her thigh, his eyes getting caught there for a moment, thoughts spiraling quickly until she had finally appeared in front of him. yumi’s hair was completely different than the last time he had seen her, but dawn had learned to expect surprises when it came to the girl so full of them.
“hello there, pretty girl,” his hands slipped easily around her waist, a respectable distance above her hips. he couldn’t stop the grin that split his lips after her own parted from them, a habit that never changed no matter how many times he was lucky enough to kiss her. “well you…” he held her out at arms length from his own frame in order to dramatically look her up and down, “you look stunning.” he honestly felt a little casually under dressed next to the dress she had donned, but as long as he got to see her in it, he was happy. he pulled her into him again to reach for a strand of her freshly darkened locks. “i love this,” he said truthfully, twisting it gently around one of his fingers. he had never known her with dark hair, but the contrast suited her so well. and in a way he felt a little silly for, he couldn’t help but like how they matched.
picking himself up off the car, dawn released her figure to open up the passenger side door to allow her to slide in. “after you,” a chivalry ingrained in him by the four women who raised him always made its appearance around umeko, especially on an occasion such as this. a first date required an excellent impression even if she already knew him so intimately.
ʚɞ
his body was warm against hers, making her nerves calm significantly. it was strange to her, being out of her head. she was alone all the time for so long it was hard not to get lost in it, but any time dawn was around…he pulled her out of it, his hand delicate and beckoning her to the light, just for a moment. and every time he noticed she was ready to retreat, he gently laid her back into the dusky fields that held her when she was simmering in her brain.
she hadn’t wanted to let go, yeah sure they had a date to get to but, what if they just stayed her a little longer? when she felt herself melting so easily, umeko all but retreated, tucking her hair behind her ear and slipping into the sleek porche with her head down. her stomach was in knots again sitting next to him, especially after feeling how his eyes scanned her body. she felt hot when he did. usually she felt warm, blushed and smiled and reverted his attention to her genius babbling. but this time she felt hot. like something that tingled down her spine and into places she was scared of even processing and yet she wanted…more of it? she’d have to ask nari about it later, and for a moment she wondered if any of the elder girls felt the same. probably not under the gaze of some boy but ever at all?
crossing her legs and buckling the belt umeko turned to dae-sung as he entered the vehicle. “are you trying to be like me?” she teased him, motioning to the black and white outfit he adorned. “you look…really….really good.” she repeated before getting a bit shy again. yumi wondered if the way she ducked under her gaze felt jarring to him, she was so used to being so relaxed with him, but a date, a real date felt different. and they’d been going at whatever this is for so long, had dae-sung ever longed for more? or was he just as scared of growing so engrossed in each other that the thought brough anxiety above his belt, like it did her?

it wasn't everyday you got a garbled few texts from a friend about a gjost or whatever else had sent her into such a panic in the middle of the night. though largely undecipherable, the frenzy had been enough to send dawn in chaerin's direction should she actually be in any trouble. he was only one step in to his skin care routine anyway. untied shoes, cat headband, and all, dawn had found the girl outside the 7/11 a block from her apartment looking entirely unscathed, if not in an equally disgruntled state of fashion as him.
"if anything, they're rude for intruding like that. unless you forgot to mention that you invited them in, cass," he gestured in her direction with a matching shockingly red drink. dawn wasn't a big proponent of the supernatural and the like, but he would be there for his friend whenever she needed. plus, if someone much more real had found their way into her apartment, he would not be leaving her alone until he knew she was really safe. "want me to scope it out for you? let them know they must have the wrong address?"
❥. ; for @rising-dawn
chaerin swore she had saw it. a tall ghost entity had intruded in her home, practically stealing her bathroom with its big shadow-y body. she had attempted to fix her sleeping schedule, being home and not in foreign countries with different timezones. when she was about to do her nightly routine, that was when she saw him. . it? them. she didn’t think to ask the being what they preferred to be called, instead pulling on her shoes and grabbing her phone and keys before booking it. in her haste, the dancer texted in all caps to dawn in a panic — she didn’t even think it made sense with all the spelling errors. but that was how she ended up sitting on the curb, sipping her cherry iced slushie with a permanent pout on her face. “the ghost probably thinks i’m rude for running away from them, am i a bad hostess? do you think they'll be mad at me when i go back?” she asked, blinking up at her friend.
